I woke up the next morning to the force of somebody's body landing on me. I let out a big groan and pushed the person off of me. It was way too early to get up.
"Five more minutes, Mom," I mumbled and rolled over to cover my face with the pillow. The blanket was entangled around my body and it made me feel very cozy.
"Get up, you brainiac, it's 10 o'clock," Lily said, pouncing on me again.
I turned over with a groan to see a huge grin on her face. I have no idea how she was a morning person, or how anyone was at that matter. I rolled my eyes but couldn't help the smile that formed on my face. It was like Lily could make even the grumpiest of people grin. Talk about magic right there.
"So, what's got you so happy this morning?" I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"Damon is taking me to go see a movie today!" Lily squealed and pounced on me again.
I've never seen somebody so happy in my entire life. Not even that one time I saw Lucas get punched in the face by Damon in my sophomore year. I was ecstatic when that event happened.
I sat up, making her roll off of me. Thank goodness, because I was kind of smooshed under there. And hot. It didn't help that the blanket was literally clinging to me.
"My little baby has her first date!" I exclaimed like a proud mother.
"And you know what the best part is?" Lily asked smugly, scaring the crap out of me. Seriously, I need to poop.
When I didn't reply, she continued, "It's a double date... with my best friend."
"Who's the best friend?" I asked curiously.
"You, silly! And... and.. you're going with Lucas flipping King," Lily said excitingly, clasping her hands together.
"Oh, no," I told her, but was mostly to myself. "Not that devil."
"Mhm, mhm. I better get home now. I'll text you when and Lucas will come and pick you up," Lily informed me with a happy smile on her evil little face.
"No way," I shook my head in disapproval.
"Please! I love you and I'd do anything for you. Plus, you said that you would do anything for me as well. And I never ask anything of you! Except for food, but you know what I mean. It would also make me really happy," Lily said with a pout.
Why the pout? She knew I couldn't say no to her pout.
I let out a sigh and slowly nodded in agreement, "Fine, I'll do it."
She practically jumped on my after hearing my answer. She pulled me into a bear hug, squeezing the life out of me and repeatedly saying "thank you." I knew I was going to regret my decision a lot, but at least it made Lily happy. Life is so difficult sometimes.
After Lily left, I brushed my teeth, went to poop, and then took a nice, warm shower. Once I was clad into black and white hightop converse, black skinny jeans, an oversized dark blue sweater, and, of course, my glasses, I checked my phone to see if Lily texted me the information needed.
When I was checking, I noticed that I had received a missed call from Jackson, along with a voicemail.
I played the voicemail, kind of expecting a "hey, call me back when you get this and I'm super sorry for what I did" or something like that. I shrugged, listening intently. "Uh, hey, Kylie. How are you? Anyways, I just wanted to say that I care about you and Lily but things have been going on in my life. I'm kind of having an existential crisis in my life right now. So instead of talking to you, I said screw it, why the fuck not, and went with Natalia because I really didn't care about what you or anybody else thought at that point in time anymore. Then, a day after or so, I felt guilty and didn't want to listen to your reaction when you saw me with her and her group. Is it bad that I'm enjoying the time with her? She's so nice and perfect and everything. Not that you aren't. God, my brain is so messed up and confused right now. Sorr-" the voice cut off and I sighed.
I felt really bad for ignoring him but at the same time it wasn't my fault that I couldn't even tell if he actually gave a single crap about us or not. I guess he did all along but was scared about what we would say? I don't know, I'm confused on this entire situation right now.
I called Jackson after listening to the voicemail a few more times. After a few rings, he picked up.
"Kylie," the voice said in relief, "you called. Uh, hey there, I guess."
"Hey, Jackson. I listened to your voicemail and... yeah," I replied awkwardly. I sucked at comforting people.
"Listen, I'm sorry for abandoning you and Lily. It was wrong of me and I didn't even try to comfort Lily when she needed help. I'm sorry," Jackson said with an exasperated sigh.
It kind of broke my heart to hear Jackson so... sad and broken. He wasn't normally like this. At least not around Lily or me. Though he could've been bottling his feelings up all along. My mind flickered back to the conversation with Jackson. I seem to get distracted a lot.
"Hey, it's okay. Take deep breathes, alright? Everything will be fine," I told him, trying my best to help. Normally, I would try to rub his back and hold him but we weren't really in the same place.
He did as told and I mentally sighed in relief, happy that it actually worked.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled again.
"It'll be alright, don't worry," I told him softly, like I was talking to a lost puppy.
And I kind of was in a sense. Jackson was lost and vulnerable right now so he was basically like a lost puppy. It was very heartbreaking, to be honest.
"Talk to me? J-Just for a little bit. I'm not really... okay right now," he said, a little mumbly.
So that's how I spent an hour of my life. I was catching Jackson up on my life and vice versa. I was glad to hear his laugh when I told him about the memory that was with my teacher bribing me with a cupcake to get me to tutor the boy I loathed.
Apparently, Natalia is actually very nice, but that could possibly just be that Jackson is being biased. He tends to do that a lot. He also hung out with Damon and told me that he was a lot like Lucas apart from the looks and the fact that Damon was sweeter and more charming.
He then went on to say that he was starting to have a crush on this shy boy named Ashton. He had glasses and I quote, "cute as fudge smile with the prettiest brown eyes you could ever see and a cute ass fringe." He told me that they talked a lotâ well, mainly Jacksonâ and Ashton was slowly opening up to him, which was pretty cute in my opinion.
I asked Jackson if Natalia knew about your sexuality and he said that she did. I immediately let out the breath I was subconsciously holding. Maybe she wasn't as mean as I pictured her to be. She was accepting to the blondie.
"I have to get going," he told me apologetically. "Thank you for forgiving me. I truly do appreciate it."
He paused before teasingly saying, "And for accepting my gayness."
"Yeah, of course. I support gay rights, man. I, um.. yeah, take care of yourself though, alright?" I replied with a small smile.
"I'll try," I heard him softly chuckle before continuing, "bye, Kylie. I'll talk to you later."
I told him goodbye and he hung up the phone after that. My phone buzzed a few minutes later with the information Lily said that she was giving me.
lily: heyy just bring yourself because your favorite bff is paying (; the movie starts at 4 but lucas will prob pick u up at 3:30. ok? ok. also!! hf with lucas & if u do the winky winky stuff together u better tell me
I scrunched my nose in disgust. I could never do that with him. That was vulgar and extra disgusting, which is pretty darn disgusting even if it does create babies, because she said with Lucas. Barf.
me: ew no that'll never happen. and i'll pay for my own tyvm. how much does it cost? u know what, never mind, i'll just bring 30$
After I sent it, Lily almost immediately texted back.
lily: no let me pay u ding dong
me: flipping make me u butt
lily: if u let me pay i'll let u sit by me instead of Lucas (;
Darn it, why does she know all of my weaknesses?
me: fineee but only because of that. also, i'm paying u back later idc what u say
lily: *eye roll emoji because i'm too lazy to find it*
me: *that one nonexistent emoji that gives u a big fat grin while handing u my money*
lily: u see this is why we're friends
me: ilyt see u later i'm going to sulk in peace over the fact that lucas has to drive me now bye
