A month and a half passed by before my body was entirely healed. In that time, I felt like I was dead. I had to stay in that awful wheel chair and my mother had to help me get dressed and take showers and baths. It felt like I was a little kid again. I knew I acted like one, but I was sure I didn't look like one. I hoped.
Lucas confronted school authorities and they decided to expel Natalia for good. It helped that the girl had been known to cause trouble and had been suspended from two other schools for being a complete butthead.
"Hello? Earth to Kylie?" Lucas said, waving his hand in front of my face.
I laughed at him, saying, "Okay, so now that you have thisâ" I gestured to the numbers in front of me, "you're going to have to divide it."
"What the fuck, why would I divide it?" Lucas told me with the most confused face ever.
"Because the teacher told us to," I said in an obvious tone. He rolled his eyes, dividing it nonetheless.
Once he got the answer right after five attempts, I gave him a peck on the cheek as an award. His face turned red and I chuckled at how flustered the small kiss made him.
School was much nicer with Natalia gone and a lot of people chatted happily among the school hallways. Although there were a few snide people who decided to call Jackson and Ashton the homophobic "f word," but one glare from Lucas was all it took for them to shut up.
Lucas was on top of the school hierarchy
respected his decisions. It was kind of stupid in my opinion but then again, school hierarchies had been a thing since the beginning and there was no stopping them now. You kind of just had to accept it.
Lily and Damien were happy together as well and it seemed like after so much hell, things were finally starting to come together in what seemed like years but it was only months. To think all of it happened in this school year seemed weird and there were still a few months left of school that I wouldn't let go to waste.
An hour later, we finished tutoring for the day and Lucas pouted as I walked down the fancy stairwell. I giggled at how childish he was acting. As much as I wanted to stay, I couldn't.
"Come on, can't we watch a movie before you go?" Lucas asked, dragging out 'go' with the same pout plastered onto that cute face of his. "It's my birthday tomorrow!"
I smiled at him. I was fully aware that his birthday was tomorrow and that was exactly why I needed to leave. Jackson, Lily, Damien, and Ashton were going to throw a surprise party since he had never had a birthday party in his life. Even Genevieve, his little sister, was in on it too.
It was kind of sad to think about, but I was really excited to see the look on his face when it all happens. He wasn't used to people doing anything thoughtful for him since his family is full of a bunch of rich jerks.
"Sorry, but I have something I have to do," I said, making up an excuse. "My mom will not let me slide by it." It wasn't a lie thoughâ my mom would kill me if I missed planning. After I told her about him never having a birthday party, she was on the plan as much as the rest of us were.
"I guess," he said with a small sigh, his eyes filling with sadness. It was cute how much he showed his love. "But call me after you're done. I'm gonna miss you."
"Lucas, it's only for today. Tomorrow is Saturday and we can do whatever you want then," I explained to him and kissed him on the lips.
"I'm still gonna miss you," he said and I told him I'd miss him as well.
I headed out of his house and walked the ten minute walk to my house. I hated it because it some a form of exercise, but I had to stay in shape somehow. This was the only way because I refused to actually go on runs and do work outs.
As I went to my house, everyone was waiting for me. Not even a minute after I stepped in the doorway, everyone started to excitedly plan everything outâ it was going to be perfect.
â
The next day, I was up bright and early. I had put on a pair of light blue jeans and a maroon sweater since it was the middle of January. Lucas wanted to spend the entire day with me and I didn't object to it since it was all part of the plan.
When I met up with him, he seemed bubbly that he was getting to spend his birthday with his girlfriend. The word still seemed foreign to me since I never had one before, but I loved him with my entire heart. I really did.
"Okay, birthday boy, what do you want to do first?" I asked him and he had a smug look on his face. "I am not going to do the dirty dirty with you."
"I wasn't thinking of that!" he exclaimed and led me to the ice cream shop where we first went to hang out together.
Many hours passed by and it seemed like a second. But you know how the saying goesâ time flies when you're having fun. Too bad we couldn't fly. Flying would be so fun right now.
The sky was dark already since it was still winter time. It was finally time for the plan to actually go into action.
"Okay, now I wanna ask you to do something for me," I told him and a curious glint in his eyes appeared.
"Oooo, what is it, babe?" Lucas asked with a grin of pure ecstasy on his face. He was having the time of his life and I was grateful.
"Come with me," I told him, holding his hand and leading him up the cliff.
"Ohh, the cliff, huh?" he said jubilantly and I hushed him.
Once we reached the cliff, everyone jumped out and screamed, "Surprise!"
And if Lucas's smile could get any bigger, it did. He certainly looked surprised and I grinned at him. The boy looked back from me and the people standing in front of him. Some people I didn't really know anything about and others I did.
"Did you plan this?" he asked me with before engulfing me into a big hug.
"Everyone else was part of it too," I replied and gave them a thumbs up. People smiled at us and said happy birthday to Lucas as we walked to them.
"You guys didn't have to do this," Lucas said, rubbing the back of neck with a smile.
"Oh, but we wanted to," Lily responded, "now shut up and let me get the cake."
There was a wooden table with a white cloth on it. The candles on the cake seemed to illuminate the cliff since it was so dark and Lucas grinned, staring at me while we sang "Happy Birthday" to him. He was staring at me when he blew out the candles as well.
We all clapped for him and chatted among ourselves. "So this all went well, huh?" Jackson said with a sleepy Ashton at his hip.
"It went more than well. I'm so glad people were too lazy to take down the Christmas lights, even if it isn't snowing," I responded and he nodded.
"Definitely. Now go get your man and wife him up," Jackson said, making me laugh. "I swear, he's whipped for you. Look at him."
When I turned my head to look at him, his eyes met with mine. He gave me a smile and mouthed an "I love you" before going back to chat with some of his friends from the football team.
"There's still one more part of the plan," Ashton muttered with a small giggle. They were both very supportive and fangirl-y of our relationship and it was kind of funny to be completely honest.
After I got Lucas's attention, I gestured for him to come with me. I was leaning against the fence, looking up at the beautiful night sky. I knew Lucas was here when he brushed his hand over him, and I could tell he was looking up as well.
"It's so beautiful tonight," I commented and as if on cue, a few snowflakes started to fall down. I smiled at them and laughed.
"No way, it's snowing," he said and he looked down at the town, "and the lights are still up!"
"Remember when you said you wanted to take me up here when all of the colorful Christmas lights were up?" I asked him and he laughed with a nod.
"I'm surprised you still remember," he commented with the same happy lazy smile.
"Of course I do," I told him and laid my head down on his shoulder.
"Have I told you how much I love you?" he asked out of the blue.
"At least a hundred times already," I told him and we both laughed together.
He turned his head towards me, and I lifted my head up from his shoulder. I looked him in the eye and the love was obvious in his eyes. A small grin was on his face as he stared at me for a moment.
"You're really beautiful," he told me and our bodies inched closer to each other.
A small smile was on his face as our foreheads and noses touched together. I could tell people were looking at us and I heard a few giggles from the background. I knew there were people with us but it was like the only two people who were actually here was him and me.
When our lips touched together, I felt myself ignite. A few whistles and "woo's" were heard in the background but all I focused on was him and how his lips felt so good against mine.
It was a snowy night with bright, colorful lights looking up on us and tons of people celebrating a birthday party that he never had in his entire life.
"So you're officially legal now," I commented after we broke away from our kiss. By now, my arms were wrapped around his neck and we were looking deeply into each other's eyes. "What was your birthday wish?"
"For it to be like this forever. Kylie, I want to spend the rest of my life with you," he said in a low tone and it almost came out as a whisper.
"I do too," I responded and those three words seemed to make Lucas the happiest man in the world.
"Can you believe this all happened because of a teacher telling you to tutor me?" he told me and I shook my head with a laugh, reminiscing on the day that she had asked me to tutor him.
"I never got those cupcakes either," I said with a small sigh.
"Will this make up for it?" he asked and our lips touched again. I felt him smile against my lips and I did the same.
Maybe he wasn't so bad after all.
