[unedited]
I groaned at the annoying alarm clock that kept beeping continuously. It was so perpetual and I felt like my ears were going to bleed out from the high pitched noise. I rolled over to the alarm clock and felt my body thump on the floor for the second time this week.
I didn't mean to do that this time.
I yawned, sat up, and stretched my arms and legs out. I slammed my palm against the darn clock and stood up. I picked out blue skinny jeans that had holes in both of the knees and a white, long sleeve, lace shirt. The ends of the sleeves were loose and and less tighter than the rest of the sleeve.
After I picked my clothes out for today, I went to the bathroom and hopped in the shower. While I showered, I huffed at the thought of my brother getting to sleep in later because he was in elementary school. Must be nice to be him.
Once I was done getting ready, I slung my backpack over one of my shoulders, grabbed an apple, said goodbye to my mom, and walked out of the door. I plugged my earbuds into my phone and started to listen to the radio because there are apps that let you do that now.
As I casually walked to school while listening to music, I heard a loud "boo" and someone pushed down on my shoulders, making my heart practically jump out of my body. When I turned around, I saw Lucas and instantly glared at him.
"Are you crazy? Were you trying to give me a heart attack?" I asked him angrily, crossing my arms and stomping off.
Not even give seconds later I felt his hands slapping down on my shoulders again. I jumped up and if we were in a cartoon there would be smoke fuming from my ears. I turned to face towards him and kick him in his place in anger. That felt so good to do.
Lucas fell to the ground, holding his place in pain, making me laugh but at the same time feel a little sympathy towards him. Not much, but hey, at least I sympathized a boy I hate. That makes me pretty darn human.
I walked away and into the school, not bothering to see if Lucas was okay. I mean, I know he wasn't but it wasn't like he was going to die so he should be fine. I let out a yawn, took a final bite out of my apple, then threw it in the trash that was just outside of the school.
After getting all of my stuff for first period, I skipped into the room with a smug smile on my face. I was proud of kicking Lucas, believe it or not. The guy always knew just how to anger me and I really couldn't do anything about it because we're in school most of the time.
Am I glad he almost gave me a heart attack? In a way, because then I finally got what I wanted. One point for Kylie! I smirked and sat down in my usual seat and soon I saw Lily come in and sit down next to me.
"What's got your spirits up this ugly morning?" Lily questioned and raised one of her eyebrows.
"Oh, nothing," I said nonchalantly, staring at my nails before grinning widely and replied in ecstasy, "I only just kicked Lucas King where the sun doesn't shine!"
Lily bursted out laughing and high fived me. I grinned in triumph and saw Lily laugh even harder when Lucas walked in with a glare on his face. His glare stared into my soul as he walked to his usual seat to be greeted by his friends.
"I just heard this girl say that she kicked you in the balls, man!" I heard one of his friends tell Lucas, making me laugh with Lily. The entire situation was hilarious.
"Yeah, she was just kidding. This school is notorious for rumors, you know," Lucas replied grumpily, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Oh yeah, then why are you so grumpy right now?" Lily intervened in the conversation with a small smirk on her face. That was a lie, her smirk was bigger than the empire state building.
Lucas opened his mouth to object but his friend was faster at speaking than him, "Dude, I can't believe a girl just kicked you in the balls."
Lucas groaned and hit his friend on arm, saying, "Just shut up already."
"But it's funn-" his friend was cut off by the bell ringing and Lucas let out a sigh of relief.
"Good morning class," the teacher said, clasping her hands together with a smile on her face. "And good morning, Lucas. Do you have the packet you were assigned yesterday?"
As if things couldn't get worse than what just happened, it did.
The annoyed boy nodded, grabbing the packet out without saying a word and placed it on his desk. The teacher walked to him with a packet of her own, probably the answer key, and took his packet, looking over it.
After the class waiting for a moment, the lady sighed in what seemed like disappointment. She said in disbelief, "Out of the ten questions assigned, you only got one correct."
"I didn't try," Lucas replied, slouching back in his seat with his arms crossed. Of course he didn't try, he's Lucas King. The boy who never tries yet gets everything he wants in life.
The thought made me fume, but I stayed quiet. The entire class giggled at what the teacher said, including Lucas's friend. I mean, it was kind of funny so I don't blame him.
"You and..." she trailed off, looking at something before continuing, "Kylie. Please come see me after class."
That made my heart drop. Me? Why did she need to see me of all people? I may not be a teacher's pet, but I sure don't cause any trouble. Especially in my favorite class.
"Uh, ma'am? Excuse me?" I said in confusion.
"I'll explain after class, darling. You're not in trouble," she reassured me.
I sighed in relief at the last part but still hated the fact that she wanted me and Lucas together after class. The possibilities of what she wanted with us were endless and most of them ended up with us two being together. I didn't like that.
"Now, not that I think you guys aren't smart, but can somebody explain to me what PEMDAS is?" the teacher asked and I immediately raised my hand. I loved being showing how intelligent I was so I always raised my hand when I knew the answer, which was almost all of the time.
"Kylie," she called my name out, letting me know that I could answer.
"PEMDAS is an acronym for the words parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction. The order of the letters tell you which to do first, for example, if there was multiplication and exponents, you would do the exponents first. Multiplication and division go together and addition and subtraction go together, so it doesn't matter if, for example, you multiply or divide first," I answered, trying to explain it the best I could.
I was horrible at trying to word things, but it's whatever. I'm pretty sure I got my point across.
"Very good!" she replied with a smile. I smiled back at her and glanced back to Lucas, who was smirking at me.
Darn, I really thought he hated me. Perhaps he really does though. Maybe he's just plotting his revenge on me.
Oh God, that doesn't sound the greatest.
The rest of the class was very easy considering we just continued the reviewing from yesterday. I could practically see Lucas's bored expression even though he was sat behind me.
After class ended, Lily gave me a pat on the back. "Good luck, soldier," she told me with a jokingly stern look.
I rolled my eyes, replying, "Thanks, General Lily."
She giggled before walking out of the classroom. The only people here now were Lucas, me, and the teacher. I started to grow anxious as both Lucas and me walked towards the teacher's desk.
"What now?" Lucas asked in an I don't even know what tone. It was like he was happy but at the same time, he was annoyed. I don't really know how to explain, he's weird.
"Is it okay if you tutor Lucas, Kylie?" the teacher asked and the first thought in my mind was a big, fat no.
So I said no.
"Oh, is there a reason why?" she cocked her head in confusion but I saw the desperation in her eyes. I didn't understand why she wanted Lucas to not fail so much.
"We aren't on.. the best of term-" I was cut off by Lucas.
"Yeah, she can tutor me. I'd love to be tutored by her since we're on such amazing terms," Lucas blurted out with a grin, nudging my arm. He whispered in my ear, "If you tutor me I'll get you cupcakes."
I glared at him, contemplating my choices. Of course I hated Lucas, but I loved cupcakes. I mean, it couldn't be that bad. What was the worst that could happen?
The teacher looked at us, but mostly me, waiting for an answer. After a few moments, I nodded and said, "Yeah, sure. I'll tutor him."
"Alright! Then it's settled. Thank you so much, Kylie," she responded and gave me a bright smile.
God forbid I don't regret doing this.
