Chapter 39

"It's, it's gone."

Zhao Heng's heart skipped a beat, her usually sharp tongue stuttered for a moment, her eyes shimmering with surprise like a pair of clear autumn water.

She suddenly felt a sense of unease and confusion in her heart, looking down at the shoes of the begonia flower branch. It was strange, she didn't have such intense psychological turmoil when she decided to live with him before.

Why was she so hesitant now?

Li Wenjian looked at Zhao Heng's face, her eyes resembling a pool of starry spring water. Suppressing his surprise, the astonishment still leaked out from his eyes.

Zhao Heng asked awkwardly, "Will it disturb Your Highness?"

Li Wenjian smiled and looked at Zhao Heng, "No, you'll get used to it."

Zhao Heng pondered, yes, sooner or later, Your Highness would have to take a wife, and then he couldn't leave the crown princess alone to sleep.

When she raised her eyes again, her gaze became calm. She stood up and walked towards Li Wenjian, "I'm just worried about disturbing..."

Zhao Heng didn't finish her sentence because Li Wenjian suddenly picked her up horizontally, leaving her stunned in place. She looked at Li Wenjian in confusion, her hands instinctively resting on his shoulders.

"If your foot is injured, you shouldn't move around randomly, be careful not to reopen the wound," Li Wenjian carried Zhao Heng towards the sleeping quarters and gently placed her on the ouch.

He didn't immediately get up, squatting in front of Zhao Heng, gently taking off her shoes and socks, looking at the wound on the sole of her foot, saying softly, "It's bleeding again."

Zhao Heng looked at him in surprise as he untied the gauze, hurriedly reaching out to stop his hand, saying softly, "Your Highness, let Lian Zhou do it."

Li Wenjian glanced at her slender fingers on his hand, gently blowing on them, a tingling sensation spreading across his fingertips, "Can't I do it?"

Zhao Heng lowered her head, her dark hair falling down, covering most of her face, her fair cheeks shining softly against the strands, "It's not appropriate..."

Li Wenjian chuckled, "Why isn't it appropriate?" he asked calmly.

Zhao Heng fell silent for a moment before saying seriously, "You are a crown prince, a person of great importance... and I..."

"How am I different from you? Aren't we both just human beings with hands and feet?" Li Wenjian raised his head, looking at her with gentle eyes, "If it were your parents, your grandmother, your elders who were treating you, would you feel it's inappropriate?"

"No." Zhao Heng thought carefully about Li Wenjian's words and replied softly, "They are my family, so there's no..."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Zhao Heng realized her mistake and regretted saying it.

Li Wenjian smiled and said, "Because they are your family, you can accept their kindness without any burden, right?"

Zhao Heng quietly hung her head, not speaking, a strand of hair falling in front of her forehead, lightly swaying in front of both of them, she raised her hand to tuck the hair behind her ear with her little finger.

"Zhao Heng, have you ever thought that before becoming a crown prince, I was just a regular person?" Li Wenjian said casually, "I also have parents and relatives, and I too would take care of them and serve them before."

Zhao Heng thought to herself, serving the elderly and having her husband take care of her wounds were completely different matters. After all, the difference in status was too great, so she dared not compare herself to the elderly.

"You never saw me as family in your heart, so you don't accept my kindness," Li Wenjian suddenly pinched her ankle, "right?"

"Huh?" Zhao Heng doubted if she heard him correctly.

Who in the world would dare to treat themselves as His Highness's family?

Li Wenjian leaned in suddenly, and after a moment of hesitation, he gently massaged her furrowed eyebrows with his fingertips, saying, "Zhao Heng, you should get used to it, get used to the fact that we are family to each other. In an ordinary commoner's household, we are also family."

Zhao Heng stared at Li Wenjian in a daze, pondering for a moment. She wanted to say that even in an ordinary commoner's household, she would still be considered a concubine, like cattle and horses, bought and sold, a possession of the master, not family.

However, as she looked at Li Wenjian, her words lingered on the tip of her tongue, unable to be spoken.

For him, such words would be an insult.

Although he was the heir to the entire dynasty, the future ruler of the world, he had never looked down upon anyone of lower status, whether it was her or a common servant. He always treated them with a humble and inclusive heart.

His great love spread like the brilliance of the sun shining on every plant and tree in the vast land.

She shouldn't, and couldn't, use such words to hurt him.

After a long while, she raised her hand to tuck the stray hair behind her ear, smiled gently at him, her fingers moving slowly away from his hand.

Only then did Li Wenjian remove the blood-stained gauze, reapply the medicine powder, and re-bandage the wound. He stood up straight, even taking the opportunity to smooth out the wrinkles on her skirt.

"It's done." Li Wenjian lifted her back onto the bed, pulling down the canopy hanging at the head of the bed. "Are you going to sleep now or read for a while?"

"You're not going to sleep, Your Highness?" Zhao Heng propped herself up on the bed and asked him while looking up.

Li Wenjian held the delicate canopy in his hand, feeling a sense of confusion in his heart. He suddenly couldn't understand his own actions.

He had never intended to have any intimate relations with Zhao Heng. The connection between them lay in mutual understanding and respect. If it was merely to satisfy his desires, he could easily appoint several beautiful women and indulge himself every night.

But he couldn't explain why he insisted on keeping her in the Chengming Hall...

Perhaps it was dissatisfaction with Xiao Ba's words.

He thought.

Words spoken in haste couldn't be taken back.

So he had to act this way for now.

"There are still a few official documents that I haven't finished reviewing. If you're tired, you should go ahead and sleep first." Li Wenjian closed the mosquito net, tucked it in, and spoke gently.

*

After three or four days, her foot had finally completely scabbed over, but it still hurt a bit to step on the ground. Zhao Heng instructed Lianzhou to be ready to go to the Beast Garden on the fifteenth, and they would go together.

This was her last attempt to prepare the sedative. The deadline to be with Ruo Zhen was getting closer and closer. If the sedative could not be successfully made, she would have to focus on another path.

The smell of the Beast Garden in the summer was not very pleasant, and there were not many people visiting. Zhao Heng skillfully fed various small animals. Just as she finished feeding the contents of the food box, she turned around and saw Yueli walking towards them with a bucket of fresh grass.

Yueli saw them from afar but did not say hello. She continued to walk forward with her head down, and when she reached the rabbit cage on the other side of the road, she put down the wooden bucket, took out a key, opened the cage, and threw in a handful of grass.

Lian Zhou pursed her lips in annoyance and said, "The mistress helped her, but she doesn't show any gratitude. Her attitude is as if we owe her something."

Zhao Heng turned her head, gently patting her hand, understanding that some people are naturally quiet and reserved. Besides, she had been through so much, with a facial injury and losing her voice, it was understandable that she was aloof.

She hadn't asked for their help, so she couldn't expect her to be grateful towards them.

"Let's go." Zhao Heng held Lian Zhou's hand and walked over to observe the monkeys they had just fed.

As they passed by Yueli, a hand suddenly grabbed Zhao Heng.

She looked down at Yueli's hand, which held some crushed grass, then lifted her gaze to her face. Yueli was showing her good side, her skin as fair as snow, shining with a radiant light in the morning sun.

Zhao Heng asked, "What's wrong?"

Yueli released her wrist and pulled out an oil-paper package from her waistband and placed it in her palm. Zhao Heng opened her palm and looked at the small oil-paper package, asking in confusion, "What is this?"

Yueli's voice was as pleasant as her intact face when she picked up the bucket she had placed on the ground. It had been a long time since she had spoken, but her voice matched the allure of her flawless face, "Sweat-inducing powder, a nail-sized amount for beasts, half a nail-sized amount for humans."

Lian Zhou exclaimed in astonishment, "You...didn't you have a bad throat?"

But before she could finish speaking, her expression changed in horror as she realized another issue, "How did you know?"

Yueli glanced at Zhao Heng and said expressionless, "Leave the animals in the Beast Garden alone; they have been tormented by you recently and are listless."

Having said that, she lifted the bucket filled with grass and without bidding them farewell, she turned and walked away. Zhao Heng watched her slender figure gradually disappear into the light of the dawn in the lush garden.

"Master, what in the world is going on?" Lian Zhou was amazed.

After so many years, the mute beast tamer could speak.

Zhao Heng shook her head, "I don't know."

She looked down at the oil-paper package in her palm, then hurriedly left the Beast Garden with Lian Zhou.

As they passed by Lin Anchi on their way back from the Beast Park, the lotus flowers in the pond were in full bloom, covering the entire pond, extending all the way to the horizon.

"Master, let's pick a lotus flower and bring it back to put in the room." Lian Zhou suggested.

Zhao Heng was also captivated by the beautiful flowers in the lake and stood by, waiting for the workers to approach the shore to tend to the lotus pond.

While waiting, a group of women approached. Zhao Heng glanced at them, and the one leading the group was Wang Ruoyu, who had intercepted her on the palace road before.

On this day, Wang Ruoyu had come to pay her respects to the empress in the palace but learned that the empress was unwell and could not see anyone, so she invited Xie Tinghuan and a group of people to go for a walk around the lake. Wang Ruoyu's father had recently been promoted to the Minister of Personnel, making her a popular figure among the noblewomen, and she was currently enjoying a lot of attention.

Zhao Heng saw that they didn't have good intentions and didn't want to cause trouble, so she decided to leave.

Wang Ruoyu hurriedly stepped forward, blocking her path, and the first thing she said to Zhao Heng was, "No wonder I didn't see the empress's face when I went to the palace today. It turns out the broom star has come crashing in."

Zhao Heng couldn't understand how the highly esteemed Minister of Personnel had raised such a foolish daughter, as she looked at her with eyes that seemed to see a fool.

"Please, Miss Wang, let me pass. I need to go back."

"Go back? Where are you going back to?" Wang Ruoyu sneered. "Are you going back to your laundry room? Or your remote and insignificant home?"

Zhao Heng spoke again, "Please make way, Miss."

Seeing that Wang Ruoyu had no intention of stepping aside, Zhao Heng pushed her shoulder aside, made way, and walked straight past her.

Prince Wang Ruoyu, in a fit of anger, spoke disrespectfully to her retreating figure, "You, a jinx, ever since His Highness brought her back, there has been no peace in the palace. First, His Highness was injured, then the Sixth Prince almost went missing, and now even the heavens can't bear to watch anymore. Lightning struck and burned down your quarters! People like you, with such tough luck, always bring misfortune to their parents, relatives, and friends. And yet, His Highness still keeps you in the Eastern Palace."

Zhao Heng's steps halted.

"A jinx, sand will never shine, and a sparrow will never turn into a phoenix." Wang Ruoyu looked at her figure disdainfully.

In the nearby Guanlan Pavilion, the Emperor stood with hands behind his back, listening to the words of the young woman by the pond. His brows furrowed imperceptibly. How could a young girl speak such cruel and hurtful words? He frowned and called out, "Xingyun."

Xingyun immediately stepped forward.

Before the Emperor could give any orders, he saw Zhao Heng turn back around. In the twilight, her face was serene, with not a trace of anger. No wonder the Eighth Prince always praised her for her gentleness.

But perhaps, she was too gentle. Despite being bullied, she remained so meek.

"This gentleness has gone too far. The Wang family's young lady is almost riding on her head." The Emperor turned to the Empress beside him and commented.

The Empress also frowned. She did not involve herself in the matter of the Eastern Palace closing its doors, and her knowledge of Zhao Heng was limited to Li Nanxi's praises. She did not expect her to be so docile.

"Am I not right?" Wang Ruoyu raised an eyebrow. "I heard that you've killed all your close relatives, and now you're causing trouble for His Highness in the palace. His Highness should have kicked you out long ago."

Zhao Heng was stunned for a moment before she realized what Wang Ruoyu had said. Looking at Wang Ruoyu's proud face up close, she slapped her.

With a resounding sound, everyone present was stunned.

Wang Ruoyu's face turned heavily to the side from the slap, and it took her a while to turn back, staring angrily at Zhao Heng in disbelief. "You dare to hit me?"

Growing up in luxury and privilege, her father had never even touched her with a finger. And yet, this servant dared to hit her!

She said she had killed her parents and grandmother?

Zhao Heng finally reacted completely, how could she say such things! She raised her hand and delivered another sharp slap to Wang Ruoyu's shocked face.

After receiving two heavy slaps in a row, Wang Ruoyu's tears immediately gushed out, and she rushed forward to engage with her in a fight. "Jinx! Am I wrong in what I said? Has your family not been completely destroyed by you?"

In the Guanlan Pavilion, the Emperor was also taken aback by the clean and crisp slaps. He turned to the Empress beside him in confusion, "Is this what you call gentleness?"

The Empress breathed a sigh of relief, straightened her dress, sat down again, picked up the tea cup from the table, lifted the lid with a delicate finger, skimmed off the foam on top of the tea, and calmly said, "That's your good son and obedient daughter speaking."

"Miss Wang, His Highness has personally appointed the Crown Prince. He is blessed, with the protection of the Emperor. No dark and ill fortune can escape his sight, and even evil spirits and demons have to make way for him. If you blame everything that happens in the palace on me, are you suggesting that His Highness' cannot restrain even a person with a tough fate like myself?" Zhao Heng looked at Wang Ruoyu, who was now tearful, and suddenly calmed down.

"Last time, Miss Wang said His Highness belongs to the likes of the tyrants and villains of the past, and I warned you to choose your words carefully. Why can't you listen?" Zhao Heng's words were like needles piercing into Wang Ruoyu's heart, "Consider these two slaps as a lesson on behalf of His Highness and your honorable father."

Wang Ruoyu lunged forward to hit her.

The noblewomen behind her pretended to pull her back, seemingly trying to intervene, but in reality, they were pushing and shoving, hoping for things to escalate for entertainment.

Lian Zhou stood in front of Zhao Heng, desperately pushing those people away.

"Lian Zhou." Zhao Heng, with a calm demeanor, glanced at Wang Ruoyu and said, "Let them come. My face is His Highness' face, and His Highness' face is the Emperor's face. Let's see how many of them dare to show disrespect to His Highness and the Emperor."

Lian Zhou nodded but hesitated to act, gazing steadily at Zhao Heng.

Zhao Heng nodded.

Wang Ruoyu, consumed by anger, was about to rush towards Zhao Heng. She wanted to claw at her face and tear her mouth!

"Zhaoxun." Suddenly, a voice called out from behind.

Zhao Heng turned around to see Xingyun Mama, who hurriedly walked over from beside the Empress. She walked straight to Zhao Heng's side, shook the cloak draped over her arm, and personally placed it on Zhao Heng, saying, "The Empress saw you standing by the pond and was worried you might catch a cold from the pond's breeze, so she had me bring this cloak for you."

This scene surprised everyone present. Xingyun Mama was the Empress's nursemaid, highly respected by both the Emperor and Empress. Even the Crown Prince had to give her utmost respect.

Looking towards the Guanlan Pavilion, Zhao Heng saw the Empress assisting the Emperor down from the pavilion. She touched the cloak on her body, feeling the soft and light fabric, with a hint of surprise flickering in her clear eyes.

"Thank you, Your Majesty." Zhao Heng nodded slightly.

Xingyun Mama nodded back, smiling, before leaving.

Xie Tinghuan stared at the cloak adorned with a golden phoenix on Zhao Heng. It was clearly the Empress's cloak, which made her grind her teeth in hatred.

Was the Empress backing her up?

In disbelief, she looked towards Zhao Heng.

Why was she so fortunate?

The lotus-picking boat docked, and one of the people on board handed Zhao Heng a flower. She accepted it, cradling the flower in her arms, and looked at the group of women. "Do you know how pearls are formed?"

Amid their expressions of surprise, resentment, and confusion, Zhao Heng explained, "A grain of sand enters an oyster shell, undergoes years of polishing by the oyster, and eventually turns into a sparkling pearl. Whether I belong in the palace or not, it's not for you people who can't even enter its gates to decide. When you've entered the Eastern Palace, then come talk to me about worthiness."

With the lotus flower in her arms, Zhao Heng squeezed through the crowd.

Xie Tinghuan stood by the pond, watching her pass by, eyes burning with jealousy. As Zhao Heng got closer to the edge of the pond, Xie Tinghuan impulsively reached out and pushed the person in front of her.

The person stumbled forward, lunging straight towards Zhao Heng.

Xie Tinghuan's lips curled into a smile, even if Wang Ruoyu didn't win the argument, it would still be worth it to push her into the water to save face.

Feeling pleased with herself, Xie Tinghuan did not expect Zhao Heng to suddenly move aside, dodging the incoming person and using the momentum to push her forward from her shoulder. The person, taken by surprise, tumbled into the lake and frantically tried to grab onto someone nearby.

One after another, they fell into the water like dumplings.

Zhao Heng glanced at them, holding the flower, and walked away.

Lian Zhou felt a sense of satisfaction, sniffed defiantly, and was about to burst into laughter. Watching them struggle in the water, the lotus pickers quickly got into boats to rescue them. Lian Zhou ran after Zhao Heng who had already moved far away.

*

While Zhao Heng was still taking a nap at noon, the incident at Lin'an Pond had already spread throughout the palace.

"Is Wang Ruoyu really that reckless?" Ye Chaoyang asked Qin Yaowen, feeling somewhat perplexed.

Qin Yaowen nodded, secretly glad she had refused Wang Ruoyu's invitation to accompany her to the palace. "Yes, I heard that when Madam Wang entered the palace to pick someone up, her expression was extremely unpleasant. When she got out of the carriage at the palace gate, Wang Ruoyu was still dripping wet, looking as disheveled as a water ghost."

As they were talking, Ye Xiangyang's wife, Liu shi, brought in some pastries.

"You're not supposed to be preparing the carriage for your brother's palace visit? Why are you back so soon?" Ye Chaoyang was slightly surprised. After all, his brother was usually very cautious and would have left for the palace early, fearing any mishaps.

"He's not going anymore." Liu shi waved her hand and explained, "I heard that His Highness suddenly summoned Minister Wang and Minister Chen, and a few others to the Mingguang Hall this afternoon. They haven't left yet, and the palace just informed your brother that they don't need to go anymore."

Ye Chaoyang and Qin Yaowen exchanged a glance.

*

"Sister Aheng." The gentle voice of Li Nanxi floated in from the corridor.

Zhao Heng sat up, went to the door to greet her. She was holding a notebook for taking notes and sweetly said, "Today, the teacher talked about a lot of things! Do you want me to tell you what I learned."

Zhao Heng brought a small stool for her by the desk. "Sure."

Li Nanxi sat down and patiently taught Zhao Heng how to read the text word by word. She thought she could remember all the new characters but after two lines, she forgot the new ones and sheepishly scratched her head, carefully identifying the annotations in the book.

Zhao Heng smiled and gently pinched her cheek, saying, "If you don't remember, we'll ask Crown Prince when he comes back."

"But Crown Prince won't be back until late today."

"How do you know?" Zhao Heng asked, surprised.

Li Nanxi grabbed a piece of melon from the desk, nibbling on it and said unclearly, "I met him on my way back, he's off to the Mingguang Hall."

The melon was juicy at this time of the year, as she took a bite, the juice overflowed from the corner of her mouth.

"Why is he going to the Mingguang Hall?" Zhao Heng took out a handkerchief to wipe off the melon juice at the corner of Li Nanxi's mouth.

The Mingguang Hall was where the princes used to study, but he didn't need to go there anymore.

"He said he's attending classes there." Li Nanxi said, "He even called several teachers."

Just as Li Nanxi finished speaking, Lian Zhou hurried in to report, "Master, Concubine An has arrived with Miss Xie from the Xie family."

Zhao Heng furrowed her brows, guessing the reason for their visit.

When Concubine An and Xie Tinghuan entered, Zhao Heng immediately stood up to seat them. Concubine An smoothed her skirt and sat down next to Zhao Heng, while Xie Tinghuan remained standing.

"I have come to apologize to Zhao Xun." Xie Tinghuan bit her lip, slightly bowing to her. "This morning at Lin'an Pond, I should not have turned a blind eye when Wang Ruoyu insulted you. As Crown Prince's Zhaoxun, it was my duty not to remain indifferent to Wang Ruoyu's humiliation of you. Please forgive me, and do not hold it against me."

Zhao Heng was taken aback, she had not ignored the situation, as she had played a part in saving the noblewomen who fell into the water.

With a gentle smile on her face, she softly replied, "You did not harm anyone with words, let alone physically harm anyone. So, what is there for me to hold against you?"

Xie Tinghuan was momentarily stunned.

Did she know something?

But she shook her head lightly, realizing that she had only given Huayin a push amidst the chaos, there was no way Zhao Heng could have noticed.

Zhao Heng then pointed to the plate of melon, saying, "You must be feeling hot from the journey, have some melon to quench your thirst."

Xie Tinghuan hesitated, about to say "I don't eat," but met with Zhao Heng's scrutinizing gaze, she sat down and ate the melon in silence. Concubine An said to Zhao Heng, "I and her father have faced difficult times since we were young, so I have indulged her more. Who would have thought it would turn her into such a person."

She sighed heavily.

She was recognized in the palace for her understanding and tact, raising exceptional children.

Xie Tinghuan was already in her teens when she was sent to her, already set in her ways, and old habits were not easily changed.

Without continuing the conversation, Zhao Heng changed the subject and exchanged pleasantries with Concubine An.

Concubine An then left the Eastern Palace with Xie Tinghuan. As they passed by the Mingguang Hall, Concubine An's face darkened to the extreme, unable to contain her anger any longer. "How many times have I told you not to associate with Wang Ruoyu and her group. Now look, your father, at his age, has been summoned to the Mingguang Hall for a conduct class! You have brought disgrace upon the whole Xie family."

Xie Tinghuan shrugged, tears fell unexpectedly. She had not expected the situation to escalate like this, it was just a typical harem conflict, but to have their father summoned to the palace, spending hours in the Chengguang Hall without any indication of what was happening inside.

"Pack your things, your father will take you back home later." Concubine An said angrily, tossing her sleeve.

Xie Tinghuan sniffed, feeling wronged, "Aunt, are you giving up on me?"

"I've tried to teach you, but you never listen; I've introduced you to seven or eight suitors, but you never like any of them. Since that's the case, find your own way out of the palace. I've realized that I don't have the ability to guide you properly, keeping you in the palace any longer would only waste your youth."

Concubine An swept her sleeves and walked away.

Later that evening, Li Wenjian still hadn't returned.

Alone in the study, Zhao Heng finished writing for the day. As the moon rose high in the sky, she stood up and returned to her chambers. Before retiring for the night, she retrieved the oil-paper package of pearls left for her under the bed.

After lunch, she and Lian Zhou tested a few cats with the drugged goat's milk. The cats were nearly knocked out in an instant. They waited for over an hour, and the cats woke up lively and unharmed.

It was indeed a sedative, but she wasn't sure of its effects on humans.

She asked Lian Zhou to bring her a glass of water and carefully measured a dose of the powder into it.

She had just finished preparing the water when Li Wenjian's footsteps were heard from the corridor.

Zhao Heng set down the cup and went to greet him. "Your Highness, you're back?" There was a hint of delight in her voice as she approached him, taking his outer robe and draping it over a hanger before presenting him with his sleeping shoes. "Xiao Ba mentioned you might be late returning from teaching at the Mingguang Hall today, but I didn't expect it to be this late. Did a scholar come to the palace to teach today?"

Li Wenjian shook his head. He had not gone to attend a class today but had given one himself. He had summoned the fathers of those noblewomen by Lin'an Pond to the palace and personally taught them a lesson in ethics.

Parents must guide their children properly, or they may turn out either successful or wasted, depending on parental efforts.

Those few individuals were still in the Mingguang Hall, writing letters of apology.

"What was that about?" Zhao Heng asked, teasingly. "Were you lecturing them on the essentials of governing the country?"

Li Wenjian, watching her nonchalant demeanor, suddenly felt a pang of unease, hoping she would confide in him about what had happened by the pond, share her hardships, instead of keeping everything to herself.

"Not quite," he replied. "And you? Where did you go today?"

"In the morning, I went to the Beast Garden and saw a white peacock displaying its feathers," Zhao Heng said with a gentle smile. "On my way back, I saw palace attendants picking flowers by Lin'an Pond, so I picked some and brought them back."

She pointed to the lotus floating in the open basin on the desk and asked, "Your Highness, do you like them?"

The lotus floating in the basin looked like it was growing in a pond, swaying with the wind, casting dancing shadows on the screen.

The heavy atmosphere seemed to lighten a bit. "They're beautiful," Li Wenjian said.

As Zhao Heng turned her head, she noticed the window was still tightly closed. The weather was getting warmer, and it felt stuffy to keep the windows closed at night. She walked over, pushed open the window, letting in a refreshing breeze that cooled the room instantly.

"I think they're beautiful too," Zhao Heng turned back, only to be surprised to see Li Wenjian sitting on the couch, holding her teacup and drinking the water.

"Don't drink that," Zhao Heng hurriedly intervened.

But it was too late. After hours of speaking nonstop, his throat was parched, and he finished the entire glass of water in a gulp. Upon hearing Zhao Heng's warning, he looked up at her, "What's wrong?"

His body went limp and fell.

Quickly stepping forward, Zhao Heng gently caught his falling body.

His head sank into a soft pillow.
