Chapter 130.
Daran kept his hands in his pocket, looking indifferent.
âDanton was dead?â he asked.
âYes, Alpha Daran. It happened last night.â
âAnd that is the reason that you came banging at my door this early in the morning?â Daran said coldly, âI am not interested. Go tell your King to leave us out of it.â
He moved to shut the door.
âA-Alpha Daran! Wait!â the soldier gasped, putting a hand on the doorframe to stop the door from closing up. âThe King demanded your presence at the Counseling
Hall. He said that it was urgentâ¦â
âDemanded?â
Daran chuckled darkly, âWho gives him the right to demand me to do anything?â
The soldier gulped nervously, too scared to look at Daran in the eyes.
When the King ordered to bring Daran to the Counseling Hall, none of the soldiers was willing to take up this difficult job.
If Daran refused to go with them, or if he was mad and decided to give them a hard time, there was absolutely nothing they could do about it.
Yet they couldnât obey the Kingâs order.
The soldier froze on his spot and hesitated.
The clicks of high heels on the hardwood floor came from their backs, breaking this awkward silence. Everyone looked around and found Morgana making her way down. the hallway towards them.
âLady Morgana!â the soldier gasped in joy.
He finally saw a savior who could rescue them from this predicament.
Morgana walked over and said to them with a polite smile, âThe King is inviting the both of you to the Counseling Hall.â
Daran crossed arms in front of his chest, âWe are not going. Because it is none of our fucking business.â
âOh come on. Arenât you interested in who killed that cocky prick Danton?â Morgana gave him a searching look, âOrâ¦do you know the murderer already?â
Daranâs face showed no sign of panic or nervousness, âHow would I know? I am just not interested.â
âWell, just stop by and enjoy the drama then. It would be fun watching people point fingers at each other.â Morgana shrugged, âDo you want me to beg you? Does saying âpleaseâ help in this scenario?â
Daran frowned, looking impatient.
Janet stuck her head out and replied with a smile, âFine, we will go. But give us a moment to get changed.â
She dragged Daran back into the room and closed the door.
She dragged Daran back into the room and closed the door.
âDo you really want to go?â Daran asked Janet as she went into the room to freshen up. âIt might get ugly.â
âSure, why not? Like Morgana said, it will be fun to watch the dog fight.â
Janet put her hair up into a high ponytail and grabbed a hoodie out of the closet and pulled it over her head.
âPlus, if Lance is really growing suspicious of us, I want to be the first to know,â she said.
When they finished changing and walked out of the door, all the soldiers were gone. It was just Morgana standing in the hallway, waiting for them.
âWhere are those daunting soldiers?â Janet asked with a slightly sarcastic tone.
âI sent them away. It is a bit melodramatic to have a large crowd of soldiers escorting you two to the Counseling Hallâ¦This way please.â
Morgana led the way and accompanied them into the elevator.
She pressed the button and waited for the elevator door to close up before asking them in a low voice:
âWhere are you last night?â
âIn our room. Sleeping. Why?â Janet asked with a raised eyebrow.
âNo reasonâ¦Just checking in,â Morgana chuckled. âI simply thought that we could use a little sincerity if we were to form a collaborative relationship. So Janet, really, where were you last night?â
Janet didnât answer that question right away. Instead, she asked, âIf Lance accuses us of murdering Danton later, will you take our side and defend us? Are you willing to challenge your King?â
Morgana narrowed her eyes, âAt least up until now, I am still the Kingâs Cabinet Minister.â
Janet replied with a calm smile, âWell in that case, to answer your earlier question, we were indeed sleeping in our room last night.â
She knew that Morgana was testing the water here.
She was not ready to trust Morgana completely just yet.
Yes, Morgana told them that Andre was the former Rogue Kingâs son and she helped them into the masquerade ball, but that was still not enough.
For what was worth, Morgana could be acting on Lanceâs order the whole time.
âWhat will it take for you to trust me, Janet?â Morgana asked coolly, âI already told you that I am willing to help.â
âMaybe saying is not enough. You should do something to prove that,â Janet said.
Just then, the elevator stopped.
The door opened up to the Rogueâs Counseling Hall.

At the chamberâs heart sat a table of polished mahogany, ringed by velvet chairs.
What caught Janetâs eyes the moment she walked into the hall was the centerpiece of
that table-
A gigantic wolfâs head.
Its eyes rounded and its mouth wide open with sharp fangs exposed, looking as though it was beheaded right in the middle of a furious howl.
Everyone by the table turned their heads around when Janet and Daran walked in.
The air was thick with an unspoken tension.
âWelcome!â
Lance stood up from his chair, smiling warmly, âWelcome to my Counseling Hall. You havenât been here before, have you? How do you like it?â
Daran took his seat opposite Lance and said in an indifferent voice, âNot bad.â
âAnd do you like my centerpiece?â Lance pointed at the large wolf head, âIt belonged to an Alpha that I killed on the battlefield. I chopped off his head and brought it back and made it into a sample. I think it makes a nice ornament in my Counseling Hall. Donât you think?â
Janet gritted her teeth in fury.
â¦That bastard.
Daranâs lips lifted into an icy smile, and he said, âIt is nice. Maybe I ought to get one of these in my pack as wellâ¦I think your head will do.â
There was an astonished gasp going around the table.
One guy slammed his hand against the table furiously. Yet when Daran turned to look at him, he quickly looked down to avoid eye contact.
Lance waved his hand, âCalm down. Alpha Daran and I were joking around. In fact, the reason I invite you here today is because of a tragic matter that happened last night.â
âDanton. We heard.â Janet said coldly, âBut how is that our business?â
âMaybeâ¦and I said maybeâ¦you happen to know something about my generalâs death?â Lance said with his shrewd smile.
âHow should we know? We didnât even know how he died,â Janet snorted. âIf he drowned himself in a bathtub is that our problem as well?!
drowned himself in a bathtub, is that our problem as well?â
âGeneral Danton died last night in drug abuse,â Morgana said.
âOh, a drug addict,â Janet spread her hands. âThen you shouldnât be too surprised. by his death.â
There were some low mutterings in the room. And one man said, âYet we discovered some unusual marks on General Dantonâs body. For example, half of his tongue was cut off. And there is a cut on his neck. Looks like someone held a knife against his throat before he died.â
âThen
you need to question people who were with Danton last night, instead of interrogating us.â
Lance slightly narrowed his eyes, âWhere were you last night, Alpha Daran?â
Daran let out a cold sneer. He pushed away the chair and stood up.
âThis is feeling like an interrogation. I am not wasting my time on this,â he said freezingly. âJanet, shall we?â
Janet nodded and followed him towards the door.
âHold on a second.â
Lance stood up as well. His voice became dark.
âI welcomed you into my home, Alpha Daran. Although many donât believe in thisâ¦but I actually thought we could accomplish something great together.â He hissed, ââ¦Donât disappoint me.â
âMy position never changed,â said Daran ruthlessly. âYour head will make a great centerpiece on my tea table.â
Lanceâs nostrils flared with anger.
Then the next second, he started laughing, âSo you are claiming that you were not with Danton last night?â
Daran rolled his eyes impatiently and said nothing.
âFine! Bring him in!â Lance snapped.
Janet frowned. Did they have a witness?
The door opened up and two soldiers brought in a peasant-looking man and threw him to the ground.
âWho am I speaking to?â Lance asked dauntingly.
The man shivered in fear, âM-My name is Gorden. I am a peasant.â
âTell me what you saw last night.â
âN-Not what I saw, My Kingâ¦it was actually my fiancé,â Gorden stuttered. âShe was supposed to be at General Dantonâs party last nightâ¦she ran back home earlier today and told me that
He cast a panicked glance at Janet and Daran.
â-These two killed General Danton!â he shrieked.
