Chapter 135
Janet threw herself into Casperâs arms.
He held her tightly.
âGodâ¦.Casper! I-1-â she choked as though there was a lump in her throat. âI miss you so muchâ¦â
âMe too.â
Casper rubbed the back of her head.
âYou shouldnât leave the Crimson Fortress without telling me first! And deep into the rogueâs headquarters? Christ, what are you even thinking? Do you know how worried I was when I heard the news?â
She smiled. It felt nice to know that someone was worried about her safety.
âWe didnât have the time to tell you,â she explained. âBut look at me. I am fine. Safe and sound.â
âYou should leave this kind of dirty work to men,â Casper said in a reproachful tone.
âTruth be told, I am starting to regret pointing you as my Gamma. You are Blood Moon Packâs princess. This kind of dangerous life doesnât suit you.â
He grabbed her hands, tightening the grasp
âForget about that fucking plan,â he said eagerly. âCome home with me. Donât you miss everything back home? The pretty dresses, the fancy balls, the time you spend with our soldiersâ¦You deserve all these!â
âNo!â Janet cried, âMe and Daran had a plan already-â
âFuck Daran! He has already ruined a few good years of yours. I am not letting him ruin the rest of your life!â Casper growled.
Daran had walked up to them from the distance. And he heard the last part of Casperâs sentence.
His eyes darkened.
Casper looked at Daran and said to him in a provocative tone, âI was telling Janet that she should come home with me. Live a comfortable life and wait for her second-chance mate to show up. Donât you agree with me, Alpha Daran?â
Janet groaned, âCasperâ¦â
âThere will be no second chance mate,â Daran said in a freezing tone. âJanet is destined to be with me.â
Casper was infuriated and he snarled, âYou prick! You rejected Janet first,
remember?! And now you are bringing her into all those dangers! Destined my ass!â Daran ignored Casperâs yelling. He looked to Janet instead.
âI want you by my side. Because I canât stand a life without you,â he said hoarsely, a soft light gleaming in his eyes. âThis will never change.â
Janetâs heart swelled.
âBut this is indeed too dangerous for you,â he continued. âSo if you decide to go
home I respect your decision Actually I do think it is the right call.â
The two men looked at Janet together, waiting for her to make a decision.
Just then, a bright firework shot up into the sky from the direction of the Grace Ruin. and lit up the close-dawn sky.
It was Morganaâs signal to them.
She had told Lance that they escaped the city. And they were coming to get them.
They were moving towards the most important part of this plan.
Janet looked away from the fireworks and to Casper.
âI stay,â she said firmly.
Casper looked frustrated, âIf this is about Daran-â
âNo! This has nothing to do with Daran!â Janet growled, âOK. I wonât give you that âI care about the safety of our packs and someone has to do the right thingâ bullshit. The most important thing is that the kind of life that you painted for me is boring! I enjoy fighting fights, taking battles, beating the shits out of the bad guys.â
She gently punched on Casperâs shoulder.
âIf we grou
up in Blood Moon Pack together, I might become the Alpha, instead of you. Donât undermine me just because I am a woman,â she said.
There was a strange look on Casperâs face.
Then he burst into laughter.
âOh well!â he chuckled, âI am not going to argue with that!â
There was a smile on Daranâs lips as well. He looked at her with an appreciative gaze.
âWhen you are both done laughing,â Janet rolled her eyes. âCan we get back to our plan now?â
âAlright.â
Casper said, âKass has filled me in already. The plan is to kill the Rogue King on our land, right? So now we are still standing on the rogueâs land. But keep moving South for another 5 miles and we will reach the borderline. Kass and Balvina are waiting for us. We will ambush Lance there.â
Daran said with a nod, âSo wait here for Lance to show up and then lure him to the borderline.â
Casper snapped his finger, âCorrect. And Lance wonât notice that we have crossed the border. I set our ambush spot in the wilderness. There is no clear road sign.â
âThen how do we know for sure that we have crossed the borderline?â Janet asked, âIf there is no sign or anything.â
âThere is an easy way to find out,â Daran looked at her deeply. âYou will be able to switch.â
Right.
Her wolf had been sleeping since she entered the rogueâs land.
She missed her.
âOK, so now we have nothing to do but wait.â Daran looked at his watch. âLance and
Morgana should be here in
Morgana should be here in less than 2 hours.â
âLetâs go wait in the woods,â Casper said and walked away.
Janet was about to leave with Casper.
Yet Daran caught her wrist first.
âIt is somewhat about me though, right?â he asked abruptly.
Janet paused.
Then she suddenly remembered what Casper asked her just a moment before-if she was taking all these risks for Daran.
There was a pink tinge on her cheeks. She shook him off, âDonât flatter yourself.â He looked down at her deeply. There was a gorgeous gleam in his eyes.
âI am very happy, Janet,â he said softly.
The way he looked at her made her heart rate quickened.
She turned on her heels abruptly and ran to catch up with Casper, escaping the scene. in panic.
Casper brought them some food and beverages. They sat underneath the trees and had their meals.
Janet was a bit embarrassed to sit with Daran after the little moment that they had earlier.
So she chose a spot away from Daran and ate alone.
Moments later, Casper came to sit with her with his food.
âYou are making a horrible decision,â he said right after he sat down.
Janet signed, âAgain?â
âNot about you staying, but about Daran,â Casper said with an all-serious tone. âHe clearly wants you back. And he is slowly wearing you out by keeping you close to his side. When we first went to Riverside Pack to train, you clearly said that you didnât want him anymore. But I can tell that you are not as determined now as you used to be.â
Janet lapsed into silence.
Casper was right. She wasnât.
About a year ago, all she wanted was to avenge those who had hurt her. Harper, Owen, John, and the Diaz couple, including Daran.
She wanted them to suffer.
And she had succeeded, for the most part.
Yet Daranâ¦she just couldnât do it.
Daran was special.
âDo you want to be with him again?â Casper pursued, âHe rejected you for that fake bitch Harper. He might act like a decent man now, but he WILL do it again for another woman. You know what they said, âOnce a cheater, always a cheater.
âI know â Janet signed
âI knowâ¦â Janet signed.
That was also the main thing that she couldnât get over with.
âAnd you will get a second chance mate!â Casper said in a way like luring a kid with candy. âHe might be a much better guy than Daran.â
Janet groaned in frustration.
Why did everyone keep saying this recently? First Kass, and then Casper.
âI might not get a second chance,â she said. Not everyone did. It was completely up to the Moon Goddess.
âBut you do. Call it a brotherâs instinct,â Casper grinned.
Janet had no idea where Casper got that.
But she really didnât want to get into this right now.
So she laid down, rolled around, and faced Casper with her back.
âI am going to get some shut eyes,â she said. âWake me up when Lance gets here.â
She closed her eyes.
Yet her heart was still racing in her chest.
She really shouldnât be thinking about Daran right nowâ¦but she couldnât stop.
If they killed Lance and ended the war, Daran would definitely ask her to come back.
What should she do then?
She didnât knowâ¦
Only if someone could make this whole thing easierâ¦
She lay there underneath the tree for about an hour or so.
Then she felt the ground starting to shake as though a large group of people were coming in their direction.
She jumped up instantly.
âDid you feel this?â she cried, looking around for Daran and Casper. âIs this-â
Daran was standing on top of a pine tree, gazing into the distance.
âIt is.â He said, âThey are coming.â
