Chapter 184
Something had happened to Casper.
And judging by Edenâs reaction, it must be something serious.
âWhere is he!â Janet snapped.
âIn his own roomâ¦Wait for me, Gamma Janet!â
Yet Janet had already pushed him aside and rushed into the packhouse. She vaguely heard Daranâs voice calling her room from behind, but she didnât have time to stop
for him.
Janet dashed across the hallway, up the staircase, and headed directly toward the Alphaâs suite, ignoring the puzzled glances of soldiers and maids.
A group of people were gathered by the door of Alphaâs suite when Janet arrived. There were doctors, and maids carrying trays of food and beverages.
âGamma Janet!â some gasped upon seeing her, âYou are back!â
Janet walked up to them, slightly out of breath, âWhat is going on?â
âWe tried knocking, but the Alphaâ¦he wonât let us in.â
âHe refuses any treatments,â the doctor sighed.
âAnd he hasnât eaten in 3 days.â
Janet clenched her teeth.
She had never seen Casper behave like this before.
Her brother was very mature. Locking himself in his own bedroom and refusing to talk to anyone didnât seem like him.
The maid bit her lips and said, âWe were just talking about if we should unlock the door with the key but Alpha probably wonât be happyâ¦What are you doing, Gamma Janet?â
She gasped seeing Janet reeled back a few steps.
âBack down.â
Janet said coldly, her eyes fixing on the door.
Then she dashed forward, jumped up in the air, and kicked on the door with one leg!
The lock snapped.
The entire door panel crushed to the floor with a loud bang, followed by shocked gasps from the maids and doctors.
âBut But the Alpha clearly said no interruptionâ¦â the maid stuttered.
âWell, he can blame his misbehaved sister later.â
Janet dusted her clothes and took over the food, âThank you. Let me have a moment with my brother.â
She stepped into Casperâs room alone.
The first thing that she noticed was the heavy scent of alcohol hanging thick in the
air.
Janet held her breath in disbelief.
â¦He was fucking drunk?!
The curtains were drawn, shutting out the daylight and casting the space into a suffocating darkness.
A faint glow from the lamp was the only light source.
With the dim light, Janet saw empty bottles scattered across the floor, booze spilled. The room reeked with despair.
Janetâs heart sank as she spotted her brother, Casper, lying on the cold floor, cuddling a halfâgone bottle of vodka.
He looked fuck up.
His cheeks were unnaturally red as though he was in a fever. He must have not showered or shaved in days, looking more like a homeless than a mighty Alpha.
âCasper!â
Janet snapped as she crossed the room and grabbed Casper by the collar, yanking him up from the floor.
âWake up!â
Casper mumbled something vaguely.
He opened his eyes a bit and looked up. But he couldnât get his eyes into focus,
ââ¦Janet?â he murmured. âYâYou are back?â
Janetâs heart was filled with a mix of concern and anguish.
âYeah, I am back. I called you a week ago. Remember? What the hell happened? Why are you doing this to yourself?â she snapped.
Casper blinked, looking confused, âAâA week ago? No, it isnât rightâ¦Whatâ¦What date is today?â
Janet gritted.
She grabbed a glass of juice and poured the whole glass down Casperâs head!
Casper shivered at the iceâcold juice and snapped his eyes open, âHey!â
âBetter?â Janet dumped the empty glass on the floor, âNow tell me what happened.â
Casper rubbed his face and let out a heavy sigh.
He was perked up a bit but still looked very exhausted with his messy hair and bloodshot eyes.
âI am sorry. I should be at the front gate to welcome you back.â he said hoarsely,
âBut there is a welcome home party later. I promise I will be there-â
Janet couldnât hear his nonsense anymore.
She raised her hand and-
SLAP!
A red slap mark appeared on Casperâs cheek.
âWHAT THE FUCK!!!â Casper snarled after a brief moment of daze.
âWe are not leaving this room until you tell me what happened.â
Janet looked down at him coldly, ââ¦Does it have something to do with Balvina?â Balvina wasnât at the front door to welcome her back
She sensed something was wrong.
Casperâs reaction told her that she made the correct guess. He buried his face into his palms and let out a light sob, ââ¦She is goneâ¦â
âGone?â Janet rounded her eyes, âWhat do you mean gone? Did she leave? Or abducted by anyone?â
âI fucking donât know!â
Casper growled, pulling his own hair in frustration, âI donât know! Fuckâ¦We were having dinner one night as usual and we even kissed each other goodnight before heading back to our own roomâ¦but the next morning, she just vanished from her
own room!
âAny luggage?â
Casper shook his head, âShe didnât take anything. It looked as though she went out for a walk and just never came backâ¦â
Janet wanted to give her dickhead brother another hard slap across his face:
âSo your big solution is to get yourself drunk?! You should be out there searching for her! What if she is in danger right now? And you wonât be able to save her because you are fucking wasted!â
âI have searched for her!!â Casper roared, âI turned the entire city upside down but NO! No sign of her at all! I went into the mountain but still⦠Maybe she grew tired of me, Janet. Maybe she wanted to leaveâ¦â
Janet shoved him to the floor and turned striding towards the door.
More people were gathered by the end of the hallway. Maids, doctors, soldiers, Edenâ¦Even Daran and Westin were here.
âGamma Janet!â the doctor rushed forward seeing Janet come out, âDoes Alpha need any medical treatment-
âHe fucking looks fine to me,â Janet said icily.
âWhat happened?â Daran asked with a frown.
Janet let out a frustrated sigh, âCasper got himself hammered because Balvina was gone. I am just worried about her safety right nowâ¦â
âHold on. Who is Balvina?â Westin chimed in. âShe is your brotherâs mate?â
Daran darted him an impatient glare, âHold your questions. This isnât a press conference.â
âI just want to help,â Westin shrugged.
âMy closest friend. My brotherâs girlfriend.â Janet ran her fingers through her hair. âSorry. But I am afraid that I canât stay with you. I have to look for Balvina. The stewards will get you settled.â
âGo.â Daran nodded, âWe will be fine.â
The two of them watched Janet go down the hallway and disappear around the
corner.
âAlpha Daran,â Westin spoke up abruptly. âWe should help Janet find this friend of hers. And letâs make it into a race. See who finds her first.â
Daran leered at him, âIf you think you can have Janet choose you from this single race, you are wrong. No matter who the winner is, Janet is destined to be with me.â
Westin shrugged, âIt saddens me to see Janet get worried. Oh, of course, if you have something else to do, I wonât force you to do this. I will find her in no time anyway.â âThis is the werewolfâs land. You know nothing about the city. You wonât be able to find her,â Daran said icily.
âWell about thatâ¦We will see.â
Westin smiled defiantly at Daran and left the hallway.
Daran let out a sneer internally.
He stopped a maid in the hallway and asked her where Balvinaâs room was and headed to her room.
Balvinaâs room looked perfectly normal.
Everything remained right where it belonged.
Clothes still in the closet, a halfâread book on the tea table, and some opened snacks. on the nightstand.
Whatever the reason she was goneâ¦it didnât look planned.
Daran walked around the room. In the end, he got on his knees and looked
underneath the bed.
That was where he found something unnatural.
A prescription bottle.
He grabbed the bottle and studied the description written on it.
His eyes darkened.
