Chapter 215
Elder Lamonteâs face was expressionless.
His calm eyes met with Janetâs gaze for a brief moment and then looked away.
âLady Janet, did you get a clear look at the killer?â Elder Pierre asked urgently.
âNo,â Janet shook her head.
âThis is unacceptable.â
Westin said in a deep, angerâfilled voice, his sharp gaze traveling around the crowd,
âFirst my elder got poisoned, and then my Queen got assassinated under my roof? How did this happen!â
The elders held their heads down in silence, including Elder Lamonte.
Elder Pierre rubbed his chin, staring at the cloth in Janetâs hand, âThe color of this piece of cloth is intriguingâ¦it is greyâ¦â
Elders from the House of Shadow made a grumbling noise.
Elder Lamonte said in an icy tone, âWhat are you implying, Pierre? Simply because the killer chose to dress in grey, the House of Shadow became responsible?â
âThe House of Shadow has been fighting with King Westinâs choice of Queen from day one! You have a motive!â Pierre cried loudly.
âWe want a Lycan as Queen. Yes. But that doesnât mean we would assassinate the Kingâs fiancé. The accusation is outrageous-â
âOh cut the crap, Lamonte, we all know that you are a rotten, sneaky person!â
âENOUGH!â
Westinâs enraged voice echoed in the large hall.
The crowd quieted down immediately.
âI donât want to hear another word of your argument,â Westin said freezingly. âOne thing to be certain is that I will hang the traitorâs head on top of a flagpole very soon.â
ââ¦Yes, My King,â the elders murmured in unison.
âAnything else we need to discuss today?â Westin rubbed his forehead impatiently.. A whiteâcloaked elder stepped up from the House of Light and bowed to Westin:
âMy King, you and Lady Janet still havenât recognized your mate bond, right? I strongly urge you to do so as soon as possible. Once you are mated and give birth to an heir, the werewolf and the Lycan will be forever united-â
âWhat heir?â Janet gasped, rounding her eyes.
Giving birth to an heir?
What the hell was he talking about?
âAn heir with the blood of a werewolf and Lycan. Only the birth of such an heir can secure a longâlasting alliance between werewolf and Lycan,â said the elder.
But Westin didnât mention a word about this to her!
What the hell-
âI need a moment with my Queen,â Westin said hastily.
The elders bowed and exited the great hall one by one.
The doors closed with a creaking noise, leaving the room to the two of them. Westin walked down from the raised platform and stood in front of Janet.
âNo,â Janet said quickly before he opened his mouth.
ââ¦You havenât even heard me out yet.â
âI donât fucking need to!â
Janet clenched her fists glaring at Westin, âOur deal is that I will pretend to be your Queen till you get your elders in line! I wonât recognize the mate bond. And certainly wonât give birth to your heir!â
Westin crossed his arms, a taunting look on his handsome face, âYou think you have
a choice?â
âOf course I do!â
âIn case you havenât figured out the situation you are in, let me remind you: you are in a dangerous, foreign land with no one else to protect you but me. If you decline. my proposal now, my love-â
He placed one hand on the back of her neck, drawing her close. His voice became hoarse.
â-you will definitely regret it later. And I will be very, very, very disappointed.â
Janet looked straight into his enchanting eyes.
Then she let out a snort, âLet me remind you of your situation, Westin. Your elders want a werewolf Queen and an heir. But what if I tell them that our relationship is fake and you are simply a shameless abductor who kidnapped me from my loved ones, will the elders get so disappointed in their King that they turn their backs on you? It will be interesting to find out. Donât you think?â
Westin raised an eyebrow.
He didnât look mad but was smiling instead.
âYou are very attractive when you make a threat, my love,â he chuckled.
Janet glared at him.
âToo bad that your threat means nothing to me.â Westin shrugged, âThere are some resistances from the elders, yes. But no matter what happens, they will never, ever turn their backs on me. They wonât dare.â
Janet gritted in fume
Shit.
âCanât you find someone else to be your Queen?â she growled frustratedly, âI
alrandu told woul
already told you! My heart is with Daran
Westin clenched her chin abruptly.
âThen change your heart,â he said in a deep, husky voice. âYou are my mate, my Queen, the only person I want by my side. The sooner you realize this, the better.
She breathed heavily.
His gaze traveled down from her eyes to her lips. His eyes darkened.
He started leaning in, his lips falling on hers-
Janet placed a hand on his chest and stopped him.
âDonât make me hit you,â she hissed by his ears.
He froze.
The smile faded from his face.
He let go of her chin and looked down at her with cold eyes, âI will give you one week
to think this through.â
âI already told you! I donât-â
âOne week.â he interrupted her, forcefully. âThat is the longest I can wait. Then we will recognize the mate bond and have a grand mating ceremony.â
âYou canât force me to recognize the mate bond!â she cried furiously.
He smiled an icy smile, âOh yeah? Watch me.â
Janet stood on her spot with her body slightly trembling in rage.
She was forced into a dead corner.
Could she find a way to escape this place within one week?
Could Daran arrive here and rescue her in time?
Either way, none of them could get themselves through that mist forest without getting lost.
One thing she did know for sure was that she would never, ever cave into Westin!
âOh and there is another matter,â Westin said. âYou need a guard to protect you 24/7, especially when I am not around.â
âLet me get killed and you can have a new Queen,â she said acridly.
Westin smiled, âThat is not going to happen. You will live a long and peaceful life right by my side.â
He blew a whistle.
The doors opened up and a tall figure came striding in.
âLet me introduce you to Clemente, the best warrior within this Kingdom,â Westin said.
Janet turned around to look at this warrior named Clemente.
She saw his eyes first.
A pair of cold, grey eyes.
The same pair of eyes that she met in the darkness last night. A freezing chill was sent down her spine.
