Chapter 246
Chapter 246
Janet held her breath involuntarily.
Westin didnât mention that he had a godmother.
And she didnât remember seeing Elder Medline on any occasion before. It almost felt.
as though Elder Medline had been deliberately avoiding her.
Elder Medline cast a warning look upon Janet and turned to Annie, âRise on your
feet, Lady Annie. You didnât do anything wrong. Why drop your knees to a werewolf?â
Annie shivered, âBâButâ¦â
âPlease stand up, Annie. I didnât blame you,â Janet said.
Annie mobbed her cheek with the back of her hand and slowly stood up.
âNow, Queen Janet.â Elder Medline looked at Janet with a raised eyebrow, âCan my daughter stay? Or do you want both of us out of this room?â
âLady Issa can leave if she doesnât want to be my bridesmaid. I wonât force her to stay. And the same goes for you, Elder Medline,â Janet said coldly.
Elder Medline sneered, âIt is not about what Issa wants or what I want. It is what the
King wants. The King shoved a werewolf queen down our throat despite the House of Darkâs resistanceâ¦so what can we do now? We can only obey.â
Janet clicked her tongue impatiently, âThen let us forego the bridesmaid tradition.â
âForgoing the tradition?â Elder Medline let out another sneer, âOh, no, no, no. I am letting a werewolf queen change our precious tradition on the first day she is crowned. The tradition remains the same.â
â¦There was no way to please this woman!
Janet was losing her patience.
Yet before she could cool down her attitude and teach this woman a lesson, Elder Medlineâs eyes flickered to her belly and snorted:
âYou probably want to ask me to fuck off as well. But donât forget that I am the Kingâs godmother. Do you really want to be my enemy? And you are pregnant with the heir nowâ¦Do you really want your child to lose all support from the House of Dark?â
A chill was sent down Janetâs spine.
Right.
She was not alone anymore.
She had a child now.
Brow un in
Like it or not, her child would the Lycanâs Kingdom. She had to plan for her childâs future.
She met Elder Medlineâs gaze.
As though knowing that Janet would back down, Elder Medline let out an icy chuckle:
âThis is the part where you apologize.â
There was a moment of silence in the room.
All the girls looked at Janet, nervously. Belle bit her lips with a face of sympathy.
Janet took in a deep breath and said in a calming voice, âMy apology, Elder Medline. Both you and your daughter are welcome to stay. And I would love to have Lady Issa as my bridesmaid.â
An arrogant smile spread across Elder Medlineâs face, âGood. Now go change into your wedding gown. The girls are all very excited to see you in white.â
The way she gave that order was like Janet was her own puppet or doll.
Yet Janet didnât say anything in return.
Elder Medline was right about one thingâshe didnât need any more enemies.
The father of her child was not Westin.
That terrible secret was like a ticking bomb ready to go off at any second.
Her child was already in danger before it was born.
She couldnât create more enemiesâ¦Better keep a low profile from now on.
Therefore, Janet simply turned on her heels and went into the changing room, with maids and tailors right behind her.
Her gown was crafted from shiny ivory satin that cascaded in a gentle, flowing silhouette.
It has pretty lily flowers embroidered all over. Each delicate bloom seemed to dance along the fabric.
The top part is strapless with a sweetheart neckline, and it fits nicely around the waist. The skirt is wide and flowing, creating a lovely train behind the bride.
When Janet finished dressing and stepped out of the room, astonished gasps were sent around the room.
âOh my godâJanet!â Belle covered her mouth with both hands and cried, âYouâYou look stunning!â
Annie and Kalindaâs eyes gleamed with joyful tears.
Issa didnât say anything. Yet her face carried a mixed expression of astonishment and jealousy.
Elder Medline was the only person who remained sitting.
She crossed her arms and looked at Janet with a critical eye.
âWhat is with the waistline?â she asked.
âWhat about it?â
âIt doesnât fit. And it makes your waist look like a bucket,â she said with a tone of asperity. âThe tailors should close up the waistline. Or you should wear a girdling.â
The tailors flinched in fear.
Janet waved her hand gesturing to the tailors to relax and said to Elder Medline, âI asked them to loosen the waistline. I am pregnant now. A tight waist makes it hard to breathe.â
Elder Medline curled her lip at Janet contemptuously, âI didnât know that a pregnant woman is this delicate. The ceremony is only half an hour. I am sure that you can
woman is this delicate. The ceremony is only half an hour. I am sure that you can survive that half an hour without passing out.â
She looked to the tailors and ordered, âGive her a girdling.â
This woman was unbelievable!
Janet felt her temper rising again, âNo need. I wonât be wearing girdling.â
âYes, you will. It is embarrassing enough that our King is marrying a lowborn werewolf, and the guests are going to see your manâs waist? Unacceptable. Get that girdling. NOW!â
Janet wanted to punch that woman in the face.
Just then, a knock came on the door, and somebody said behind the door, âMind if I come in?â
It was Westinâs voice.
What was he doing here?
Belle jumped up abruptly and hurried to block the entrance, âNO NO NO! You canât come in! It is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the wedding-â
Yet Westin had already pushed the door open and stepped in.
âWestin!â Belle cried in fume.
Westin completely ignored his little sister.
His eyes were glued to Janet with astonishment and passion glittering in them. âChrist.â He murmured, holding his breath, âYou lookâ¦it is beyond words.â
Janet smiled, âThank you.â
âWestin! Bad luck!â Belle shook her brotherâs shoulder violently, âGet out!â
Westin contained her with one hand and chuckled, âWe have enough love to conquer
a little bad luckâ¦Oh and Medline, I see that you have met Janet?â
âWith pleasure,â said Elder Medline in a distant voice.
âGreat. Now I called a meeting of all elders. The others are already in the Elderâs Council. Can you head down there first? I will catch up with you later.â
Elder Medline nodded and stood up from her seat.
âRemember the girdling,â she told Janet that before leaving the room.
Janet rolled her eyes internally.
The day she wore that girdling would be the day she died.
âAnd I need a moment alone with my beautiful Queen,â Westin said to the girls with a charming smile.
There were some giggles and the girls all filed out of the room.
As soon as they were alone, Westin let out a sigh of relief.
âI hurried down here when I heard that Medline came. How did it go? Did she give you a hard time?â he asked.
Janet snorted coldly, âYour godmother tried to strangle me with a girdling. So you
âWestin, do I have a thick waist in your eyes?â
ââ¦What?â Westin was stunned.
âJust answer honestly. Your godmother said thatâ¦I have a manâs waist,â Janet complained.
It was stupid to care about what Medline said butâ¦.
She couldnât help it.
Westin cleared his throat, âLetâs just put it this way: I would like to describe how beautiful your body is in my eyes, but I am afraid that it might come off asâ¦.horny and desperate.â
Janet burst out laughing.
Westin lifted the corners of his lips as well, staring at her deeply.
âI would die to hear that laughter every day for the rest of my life. But when was the last time I made you laugh?â he asked in a low, hoarse voice.
