Chapter 215 Get a Divorce, Jo âItâs useless⦠Jesse mumbled. âDexter wants to ruin me.â
She even thought he had feelings for her after she was scalded.
The light had dawned. He had always treated her like a pawn, after all. He had used her to agitate other people and curry favor with that woman.
She had carried out her illegal behavior secretly. She wouldnât be investigated if she didnât leave tracks, but everything had happened so suddenly. There was no prior indication at all. Someone must have added fuel to the fire behind the scenes.
Not many men in Wavery had such authority as Dexter did. And the person she had offended was none other than Dexter.
Women always had accurate intuitions. It was painful for her to come to a conclusion.
Josie meant something to him.
It was almost the end of the year. Josie had settled virtually everything on her hands and wasnât as busy anymore, so she started going to the hospital more frequently.
Her dad still hadnât moved.
Josie sat in front of his hospital bed, and Matthew looked concerned.
âJo, donât worry so much. At least Mr. Warrenâs vital signs are still stable.
âHow can I not worry?â Josie felt defeated. âOnce the new year starts, itâll be his fourth year like this. What should I do if he doesnât wake up?â
Matthew stood behind her and unconsciously reached his hand out. He wanted to pat her head and console her, but he didnât dare do it in the end.
âMatt.â Josie suddenly thought of something. She turned to look at him. âCan I take my dad home for a while during New Yearâs?â
Matthew was surprised. âHome? You can if you ensure that his medical equipment is sorted out, but as far as I know, your houseâ¦â
He wanted to say something but stopped. Ordinary families couldnât afford the expensive hospitalization. fees, so most would look after the patient at home. Josieâs family couldnât do so, so she had kept her dad at the hospital for the past few years.
âI can. I can make arrangements.â Josie decided. âIs that alright, Matt?â
Matthew sized up her expression and guessed something. His lips curved disappointedly. âIf you can do it, the hospital will naturally approve.â
âThatâs great. I want to spend New Yearâs with Dad this year.â Josie sounded sad. She was already prepared.
If her dad didnât have much time left, spending New Yearâs together could make up for her regrets.
It was silent for a moment. Josie took her cell phone from her bag and slowly typed but deleted everything. She was at a loss.
Matthew saw it, and his gaze was cold. He asked softly, âDo you need to ask for his permission?â
Josie was startled. She smiled bitterly. âThatâs how things are when I depend on him.â
Matthew was pained. âGet a divorce, Jo. Iâm a doctor. I can help you fulfill any of your requests.â
Josie was taken aback. She didnât know what to say momentarily when faced with his burning gaze. She said. âMatt, I canât get a divorce for now.â
She had been more energetic when she came to the hospital these days, and Matthew had noticed something. He questioned her, âDo you not want to divorce him, or does he not want it?â
Josieâs blood froze, and she didnât know how to explain it. âItâs too complicated between us. I canât get divorced for now.â
Matthewâs expression froze. After a moment, he laughed bitterly. â⦠It may not be entirely bad. You can do anything you want as long as you can protect yourself. Anything you want.â
He didnât know if he was consoling himself or Josie.
