Chapter 445 He Got Married Because It Was Her When they returned to the Mason Garden, Josieâs face was a mask of shock and confusion. Her eyes were wide and unblinking; the color all drained from her face.
Dexter noticed her distress and put down his newspaper. âWhatâs wrong?â he asked, reaching out to touch her forehead.
Josie forced a smile and lifted her phone. âI just got a notification that the daughter of the CEO of Laxir Corporation was caught taking drugs,â she answered.
Dexterâs face was thundercloud, but he quickly regained his composure. âWavery is a city that has a zero-tolerance policy for drug use,â he said. âShe deserves to be punished.â
Josie stared at Dexter, her eyes full of doubt. âIs it simply a coincidence that the daughter of the CEO of Laxir Corporation was caught taking drugs?â
Dexterâs face turned to stone as Josieâs words sank in. âItâs not me,â he said, his voice calm without a hint of uneasiness.
She couldnât shake the feeling that he was involved in the drug bust, even though she had no evidence.
Hence, she could only rely on his expressions to give away the answer to her doubts.
Josie lowered her head in shame. Iâm so sorry for suspecting you,â she said. âI know you would never do anything like that.â
âDexter,â Josie wrapped her arms around Dexterâs waist and held him close. âI just donât know how to repay you,â she said. âYouâve been too good to me.â
Although he had broken her heart before, Josieâs heart thawed through spending time with him. He had his guard up most of the time, but she knew he loved her.
Dexter stroked Josieâs hair lovingly, his touch like a warm blanket. âIsnât it good like this?â he asked.
âIâve never expected you to repay me for anything.â
Josieâs eyes started to well up in tears as she cautiously whispered, âAre you nice to me because Iâm Josie? Or is it because I look like Leanne?â
As soon as these words left her mouth, Dexterâs muscles went rigid, and his eyes narrowed like daggers.
âWho told you that?â
Josie felt her eyes sting with a sense of overwhelming despair as his reaction was evident to his true thoughts. âNo one needed to tell me anything. Mark told me I looked like someone He Got Married Because It Was Her he knew, but it couldnât be his past lover as he had a stable marriage.â
âIt would be rare to have three people looking identical in your social circle. Therefore, he must be referring to the same person. Leanne is Liana Olsen, the Olsen familyâs daughter, right?â
Josie spoke slowly. Dexterâs face turned grimmer at every passing second.
âSo? You think that I got married to you because of Leanne?â he asked, his voice cold and his words demanding through his clenched jaws.
âIsnât it the truth?â Josie couldnât shake off her doubts. âThe main reason you treated me so well was because of Liana, right?â
Dexter was stunned by her straightforwardness, unable to utter a single word in response.
Josie took his silence as an affirmation of her suspicions, and she started to walk away when he pulled her back tightly. The edges of his face hardened, stinging with fresh fury as he led her outdoors and into the car.
âWhat are you doing?â Josie wanted to run away, but he pinned her down onto the car seat with his strong arms, pulling the seat belt over her.
Dexterâs arms rested on the car door when the corner of his lips lifted into a smirk. âYou can never be satisfied,â he scoffed.
He took hold of the steering wheel, leaving Mason Garden.
Josie wouldnât let him have his way, especially when her mind was a whirlwind of emotions. âYou couldnât deny that youâve only been nice to me because you saw me as a substitute for Liana, her words were like daggers to the heart, evidence of the weight of emotions she had carried in her heart.
Remembering that he had lost his temper towards her because of Leanne in the past, anything she said couldnât have strayed far from the truth.
The edges of his features were tensed but showed no hint of what was going through his mind. He drove with one hand on the wheel and sent a message on his phone.
âWhere on Earth are you taking me?â
