Larry glanced at the half-burnt cigarette. âMr. Russell, you havenât smoked for a long time. Mrs. Russell would not be happy if she found out that you relapsed.â
Dexter stopped smoking because the couple tried to conceive, but bad habits die hard.
âDo not tell Mrs. Russell about it when she comes back,â Dexter shot Larry a look while stubbing the cigarette out.
Larry nodded. âI wonât. After all, men need an outlet. Smoking is nothing.â
âHowâs the progress at the construction site?â Dexter asked as he got into the car.
âThings are still uncertain, although the plans are underway. We recently seized three projects from the Carter Group, putting them on high alert.â
Dexter leaned back with his eyes closed as he listened to Larryâs report. âPaul Warrenâs whereabouts are still a mystery. Our men are canvassing a greater area to no avail.â
If the Russells could not find Paul, that meant that he most probably was not in Wavery.
âSend a batch of men to Rivodia.â
âYes, sir!â
As the journey wore on, Larry contemplated whether or not to offer his opinion, and eventually did. âMr.
Russell, isnât it dangerous to have someone from the Olsen family around you?â Indicating that he was uneasy about Liana Olsen.
It was evident that Mark Olsen planted Liana at the Russells so that he had an eye on what they were planning to do, yet Dexter allowed her to stay.
Many considered him to be playing with fire.
âIs she a threat?â Dexter asked as he opened his eyes when the car came to a stop.
Looking ahead, he saw Heather taking a picture of her simple outfit in the full-length mirror at the entrance to the Russell Group.
Larry followed his gaze and noted that the young woman looked youthful, even innocent.
âShe looks harmless, but people usually only reveal their trump card at the end.â
When Heather noticed Dexterâs car, she quickly put away her phone and approached the vehicle.
Peeking in through the car window, she called out to Dexter, âHi, Dex.â
âI caused trouble for you last night, so my father had me come and apologize to you,â Heather looked down embarrassedly.
âHe mightâve been harsh on you, so donât be so hard on yourself. Go on in, Iâll come in soon.â Dexter replied monotonously.
âOkay!â Heather beamed.
Dexter watched her waltz into the building before dropping his smile. âGo back to the construction site. I need you to monitor them,â he instructed Larry.
Dexter strode into Russell Group and took the lift up to the top floor. As he entered his office, he heard someone speaking softly.
He walked cautiously to the pantry and heard Heather on the phone.
âDonât be like that, Summer. You donât know whether there were bad intentions behind those words.â
There was a moment of silence as the other party responded.
âI know, but I will never rest peacefully if I schemed my way to be with Dex.â
âI will not hurt Miss Warren. Sheâs a good person!â
Dexter peeked at Heather through the door gap to see her quickly hang up. She then tapped on her phone, and a voice recording started to play.
âYou managed to secure a good life, didnât you? Youâre living in a luxurious home and have free access to high society. Even if your father recovers, your current lifestyle wouldâve been. a fairy tale to someone of your social status. Now that youâve tasted luxury, youâre holding on to it for dear life! What a greedy person you are!â
âYouâre right, I wonât let go.â
âJosie, you little snake!â
âMiss Olsen, although you vowed to give me what I already have, I believe nothing you offer me will be as much as lucrative as what I already have as Mrs. Russell. I will use my resemblance to Liana fully to my advantage. In fact, do you think Dexter thinks Iâm Liana?â
