Chapter 566 Observation Meanwhile, Erbao was still in a coma. Ning Ran was sitting right next to her and couldnât help but sob when she looked at her daughterâs tiny little face.
âDarling, you must wake up, okay? Otherwise, I wouldâve nothing to live for anymore. This is all my fault. I wasnât there to take care of you. I should be the one getting punished. Erbao, wake up, okay? If not, I wouldnât want to live anymoreâ¦â The more Ning Ran spoke, the more heartbroken she became.
She blamed herself for the incident. When Erbao was having a taste of the cream, she was in the shower. By the time she was done, it was already too late.
Ning Ran didnât throw the cake out because the maid told her it was from Nan Xing. Nevertheless, she still didnât allow Erbao to take a bite of it.
She had been extra vigilant when they were with the production team. However, she didnât expect something like that could happen at home.
The nurse present recognized Ning Ran when she saw her. She then approached her and comforted, âMs. Ding, everythingâs going to be okay. The doctor has already said your daughter will wake up.â
âSheâs still so young, and that was such a lethal poison. Will she suffer from the after-effects?â
The nurse had no idea what to say because she wouldnât know either. Instead, she could only say words of comfort. âDonât worry, Ms. Ding. Everythingâs going to be fine.â
Right then, Nan Chen entered the room. He held Ning Ranâs hand and urged, âDonât worry. Erbao will be fine.â
âThis is all my fault.â
âNo. Youâre not at fault. Iâd let my guard down. No one expected someone to send a poisonous cake home. If anything, this is my fault. It has nothing to do with you. I promise you Iâll find out who did this and make sure something like this will never happen again,â Nan Chen said.
âThat was such a lethal dose of poison. Will Erbaoâs brain get damaged?â Ning Ran asked.
âNo. My daughter is so smart. She wonât get brain damage. Even if thereâs an after-effect, Iâll look all over the world for a good doctor to heal her.â
âWhoâs so ruthless? Who would harm my child? Did Qiao Zhan manage to find any leads?â
âNot yet.â
Nan Chen decided to not let her know about Nan Xingâs involvement in the matter. Qiao Zhan was the one who found out the card used to purchase the cake was his brotherâs.
He wasnât covering up for Nan Xing, but it was just that he knew his brother wasnât the culprit. Not only does he have no reason to harm Erbao, but heâs not a person who would do such a heartless thing.
After all, he couldâve just asked someone to do it for him. Why would he buy the cake himself and leave evidence behind? Someone must be trying to frame Nan Xing. Although he likes to have fun in life, heâs not a power maniac, nor is he arrogant. Hence, he shouldnât have many enemies around him. Who is the person framing him, then? Whoever it was, the motive for such an atrocious act was obvious, and that was to make the Nan family fight among themselves.
If Erbao were to die there and then, itâd still be a deadly blow for the Nan family regardless if Nan Xing had orchestrated it.
Itâd be impossible for people in grief to remain rational, so the probability of Nan Chen hating Nan Xing would increase.
Even if there was no hatred between them, Nan Chen would still be wary of Nan Xing.
When wariness arose, so would suspicions and skepticism. Once the brothers were on guard against each other, the trust they had in each other would vanish. Theyâd hold grudges against each other.
By then, the Nan family would descend into chaos.
That was the exact reason Nan Chen had to keep calm amid the dire situation. He had to make sure the word wouldnât get out.
âWe must find the evil culprit. How could someone lay their hands on such a little child? Earlier today, the production team had also received a cake, but I didnât allow Erbao to eat it,â Ning Ran uttered.
âWhat? Why didnât you say so earlier?â
âI didnât think itâd be important to bring it up. Someone sent a cake to us. When I told Erbao not to eat it, she was quite cooperative, and she didnât eat any of it. Tang Jing ate some, though. Nothing has happened to her. If the cake the production team received was tainted, then how is Tang Jing still okay? If the cake she ate was fine, why was the one we received at home spiked?â Ning Ran gazed at Nan Chen.
âIâll get Qiao Zhan to question Tang Jing. However, wouldnât she know what had happened to Erbao if we approach her? At this moment, I donât want anyone to know about this yet. I want to get to the bottom of it before disclosing it to the public.â
âTang Jing should be in the clear. Since thereâs no bad blood between her and me, why would she do such a thing? If she were to poison someone, sheâd need a motive, right? I canât think of a reason for her to do something like this.â
âBad blood isnât necessarily the only motivator. At times, people would often do it for their own interests.
Iâll get Qiao Zhan to stalk Tang Jing and find out if sheâs involved in this. If she is, weâll look for her again. If she isnât, then itâs fine.â
âMommyâ¦â
Right then, Ning Ran heard a weak voice calling out.
âDarling, youâre awake!â She was elated.
âDaddyâ¦â Erbao uttered.
âDarling, are you feeling okay?â Ning Ran asked worriedly.
âIâm fine. Iâm just tired. Mommy, what happened to me?â
âYouâre okay now. Youâll be fine.â Ning Ran started crying again.
âWhere am I?â Erbao asked.
âWeâre at a hospital. You needed treatment because you fell sick. However, itâs all over now.
Everythingâs fine.â
âHow about Dabao? Where is he?â
âHeâs staying at Commoner Residence. Iâll bring him here to visit you tomorrow, okay?â Ning Ran said gently.
âOkay, Mommy. Iâm so tired. Iâll continue sleeping.â Erbao shut her eyes again.
Ning Ran felt like crying again because she was afraid that once Erbao fell asleep, she wouldnât wake up again.
Nan Chen gently touched her hand, signaling her to not worry.
Indeed, Erbao was still incredibly weak at that point, and she needed to rest.
That night, Ning Ran couldnât sleep at all.
The next day, the doctor transferred Erbao to a general ward after telling Ning Ran that her daughter was out of the woods.
Since Erbao was present, she refrained from asking the doctor questions.
Instead, she and Nan Chen went to the doctorâs office after settling the girl down.
Even though the department head was the one treating their daughter, the hospitalâs director was there as well.
âMr. Chen, please have a seat. Donât worry, your daughter is going to be fine. In fact, her life isnât at stake anymore. She just needs to recover from it,â the department head said.
âWill she suffer from any after-effects?â Nan Chen asked right away.
âItâs too soon to tell. The poison your daughter ingested is rare. Although her organs suffered damages, it didnât seem too serious. However, the damages caused might only show up later. Hence, weâd need to keep her under observation. Judging by her condition now, it doesnât seem like sheâd be suffering from any after-effects. Nevertheless, we canât completely rule out any possibility of that happening.â
The department head was extremely cautious with his choice of words. That was the exact reason Nan Chen and Ning Ran were getting even more worried.
âSo sheâd still need to be under observation?â
âYes. Weâll observe her today. If nothing comes up, we can discharge her.â
âI donât want this to be known by the public. Please make sure everyone in the hospital is informed of it,â Nan Chen uttered coldly.
âOf course. Weâll keep it under wraps. Rest assured, words wonât get out,â the department head and the director quickly stressed.
