Chapter 574 The Ignorant Are Not To Blame âNan Chen?â Even the guy felt something was amiss. âLook, bro! He really does look like Nan Chen!â
the girl said while handing the phone over to the guy.
After taking a closer look at the picture and at Nan Xing, the guy nodded his head in agreement. A gleeful smile formed on Nan Xingâs face when he saw that.
Ha! I guess looking like Nan Chen does have its perks, after all! I bet these two are going to apologize on their knees now that they realize who they tied up, huh? Well, Iâm not a mean person, so Iâll allow them to forgo the kneeling. All they have to do is get me a fresh change of clothes and get me a ride to the hospital!
With that in mind, Nan Xing said in a magnanimous tone, âItâs all right! After all, the ignorant are not to blame for their mistakes. I have forgiven you both.â
To his surprise, the young man simply shouted back at him, âShut up! Do you think you can go around conning others just because you look like Nan Chen? First, you rob, then you steal, and now youâre trying to commit fraud too?â
âIâm not lying! I really am Nan Xing! Nan Chen is my older brother!â
âThereâs no way someone from the Nan family would resort to stealing! Do you take me for a fool?â the young man asked with a look of disdain on his face.
âI told you, didnât I? I wasnât trying to steal anything! I just needed to use the telephone for a bit! Why would I need to steal when Iâm not even short of cash?â Nan Xing explained.
The girl pointed a mop at him as she asked, âWhy are you dressed like this, then?â
âI⦠Itâs a long story⦠Look, I need you to untie me right now! Iâm injured, and I need to get the wound treated before it becomes inflamed!â Nan Xing shouted anxiously.
âIâve checked your wound. Itâs just a scrape, so youâll be fine. What, a thief like you canât stand a few cuts and bruises?â the man snapped back at him.
âWhat do I have to do for you two to believe me, huh? You wonât hand me over to the police, and you refuse to believe me either. As a matter of fact, Iâm starting to question your motives for tying me up!â
Nan Xing exclaimed.
âIâll smack you up if you donât stop running that mouth of yours, a*shole!â the young man shouted while raising his hand.
âForget it, bro! Why bother getting so worked up over a petty thief? Letâs just hand him over to the police and be done with it! You may be studying in a police academy, but you arenât a police officer yet!â
the young girl advised him.
Oh? So I was right! This guy really does want to be a policeman!
With that in mind, Nan Xing said, âIf youâre studying to become a police officer, then you should know that it is illegal for you to tie me up like this. This is unlawful imprisonment!â
The young man jabbed a finger at Nan Xing as he yelled, âGoing there now, are we? You are trespassing on private property, committing theft, and impersonating someone else! Youâve got some guts to bring up the law when youâve broken so many of it! Do you even know anything about the legal justice system?â
All right, Iâm out of ideas here⦠This punk has me beatâ¦
Nan Xing let out a huge sigh and asked, âFine, you know the law best, okay? Tell me, then. How am I supposed to prove that Iâm not a thief?â
âYour identity card.â
Unfortunately, Nan Xing didnât have it on him at the time.
Everyone in Flower City knew who he was, so he could wine and dine anywhere he wanted without even bringing his wallet.
As he never thought he would someday need to prove his identity to anyone, he never developed the habit of carrying any documents for identification.
âWhat about your driverâs license or social security card? Do you have anything that can prove your identity?â the man pressed on.
Just like with his identity card, Nan Xing didnât bring any of those with him either. He kept his driverâs license in the glove box of his car so that he could present it to the traffic police when necessary, so he didnât have it on him either.
âI donât have those either,â Nan Xing said helplessly.
âYou donât have any form of identification on you, and you dare claim to be a member of the Nan family? Do you really think you can do as you please just because you look like Nan Chen?â the young man shouted angrily.
âI really am Nan Xing! Okay, hereâs what happened. I was eating at the Xiang Jiang Restaurant across the street, and then some thugs barged in and threw me into this river. After swimming all the way here, I came in looking for a phone I could use. Since you two werenât around at the time, I decided to just help myself to the telephone. The next thing I know, I got knocked unconscious and got tied up like this.
Now, you can either hand me over to the police, or contact the Nan family directly. You canât just keep me tied up like this! Iâm f*cking freezing over here!â
With the way things were going, Nan Xing had no choice but to come clean with them or they would never believe him.
After all, he did look rather suspicious making a phone call by the cash register with his body completely drenched.
Eventually, the young man was convinced by his story. âAll right, Iâll call the police now.â
Nan Chen was keeping Erbao company in the ward at around nine in the evening when Qiao Zhan came in through the door.
âYou should get some rest. Just make sure to have two of our men stationed here,â Nan Chen told him.
âSomething has happened to Master Xing. Heâs being treated in this hospital at the moment. Would you like to go pay him a visit?â Qiao Zhan asked.
Nan Chen tensed up upon hearing that. âHow is he now?â
âIâm not too sure about the details. It was the police who brought him over. I only found out because I happened to run into him earlier,â Qiao Zhan replied.
What? Why didnât Nan Xing inform Qiao Zhan if he got into trouble? Heck, he couldâve contacted me directly too!
âWhich ward is he in?â Nan Chen asked.
âFollow me,â Qiao Zhan said.
âWhat happened to Nan Xing?â Ning Ran had overheard a bit of their conversation upon waking up.
âIâm going to check on him. You stay here and watch over Erbao,â Nan Chen replied.
âI want to go see Uncle Xing too!â Erbao said.
âIâm going to check on him first. Once I have confirmed the situation, Iâll come back and tell you all whatâs going on. Until then, stay here in the ward. Do not go anywhere!â Nan Chen instructed them before following Qiao Zhan out of there.
Because the two wards were in separate departments, they had to make quite a few turns before arriving at Nan Xingâs ward.
They could hear his voice from outside the door before they even entered.
âItâs really just a scrape. Iâll be fine with some medication. Thereâs no need for an IV drip or injections.â
âYour wound was exposed to water, so a tetanus shot is required as a precautionary measure.â
The person talking to him was a woman, presumably a nurse.
âEverything has its risks, so theyâre practically unavoidable. When we drive, weâre at risk of getting into car accidents. When we take a flight, weâre at risk of being in a plane crash. We canât be taking precautions against every single thing in the world, can we? Forget about the risks and just prescribe me some medication. I wonât be staying in the hospital, nor will I be getting injections, let alone IV drips,â Nan Xing protested.
âThat wonât do, mister. Now that youâre here, you need to accept the proper treatment procedures we provide you with. What if something bad happens to you because you refused the injection? It would be too huge of a responsibility for us to bear!â the nurse insisted.
âWhy are you being so persistent? I told you, Iâm fine. The examinations earlier too, have shown that thereâs nothing wrong with me. Why must you insist on giving me injections and IV drips? Stop bugging me or Iâll have a word with your director! You wonât even get to keep your job if that happens!â
âIâ¦â The nurse was clearly intimidated by his threat.
âWhat on earth happened to you?â Nan Chen asked as he came in through the door.
âHey, Chenâ¦â Nan Xing mumbled nervously when he saw him.
âHow did you get hurt? Is it serious?â Nan Chen asked.
The nurse shifted her gaze between the two of them with a look of confusion on her face.
Had it not been for their different outfits, she wouldâve thought she was seeing things.
âIâm fine, Chen.â
âThen accept the treatment that youâre given. Either she gives you the injection, or I will. Be warned, though. Iâm not a trained medical professional, so I canât guarantee if Iâll be able to get it right. If I miss the mark, I will have to redo the whole process,â Nan Chen said.
âChen, youâ¦â
His threat was so effective that Nan Xing gave in instantly.
âLet her give you the tetanus shot, then. You can skip the IV drip if you donât want it. I wonât force you to get an IV drip unless itâs absolutely necessary,â Nan Chen continued.
âFineâ¦â Nan Xing had no choice but to accept his fate.
