Chapter 697 Understand How They Felt The next day, Ning Ran quietly slipped out of Mountview Inn. She didnât have the courage to show herself in a public place, so she went straight to Lu Jingyuanâs villa in Livingsfill.
After she rang the doorbell, the housekeeper was the one who opened the door. She didnât know Ning Ran, so she refused to let her in.
Lu Yunxue ended up hearing the commotion and ran over, saying, âThis is Ms. Ning. Let her in.â Ning Ran immediately picked Lu Yunxue up. âDid you hear my voice, Darling?â
âNo. I had a feeling it was you, though,â Lu Yunxue said. Ning Ran stared at her suspiciously. âReally?â
âYes! We hardly have any guests. Youâre the only person who could have come,â she replied earnestly.
Ning Ran stepped in with Lu Yunxue in her arms. Lu Yunbing approached as well, and surprisingly, there was a smile on her usually cold face. âHello, Ms. Ning.â
âGood girl. Whereâs your mommy?â Ning Ran asked.
âSheâs asleep,â answered Lu Yunbing.
Ning Ran checked the time. It was already half past ten, yet Lu Jingyuan was sleeping.
What an eye-opener! I canât believe thereâs actually someone lazier than me in this world.
âDid she stay up late last night?â Ning Ran questioned.
âI donât know. We fell asleep early,â Lu Yunxue stated while Lu Yunbing nodded in confirmation.
The way they were cooperating with each other seemed too familiar to Ning Ran. Dabao and Erbao did things like that all the time.
Usually, Dabao was in charge of nodding or shaking his head while Erbao explained the situation.
However, whenever Erbao hit a roadblock, Dabao would speak up for her.
For the most part, Dabao would remain silent, but whenever he piped up, he would shock the adults with his accurate reasoning and irrefutable claims.
The same could be said for Lu Yunxue and Lu Yunbing. The only difference was that they were both girls.
Ning Ran genuinely felt that she was fated to meet these girls. The feeling that destiny had brought them together was so strong that it felt as if everything was predetermined.
âIâll go wake Mommy up, Ms. Ning,â said Lu Yunbing.
âNever mind. Just let her sleep for a bit more. Itâs not like I have something important to say, anyway.
We can chat for a while first.â Ning Ran grinned.
âHave you had your breakfast, Ms. Ning? Iâll make some for you,â Lu Yunbing offered.
âYou know how to make breakfast?â
âMommy always wakes up late, so we make our own breakfast. Itâs nothing special, actually. We just have warm milk and bread,â she explained.
Ning Ran exclaimed, âWow! Thatâs amazing. Does your mommy always wake up late?â
The two of them nodded at the same time. âYes. She usually doesnât get up before ten unless thereâs something going on, in which case she wakes up early sometimes.â
Ning Ran smiled. Looks like sheâs indeed a lot lazier than me!
âWhy didnât Erbao and Dabao come, Ms. Ning?â That was Lu Yunxueâs primary concern.
Ning Ran hadnât brought the children along because she was there to talk business with Lu Jingyuan.
âTheyâre playing with their uncle today, so they didnât come with me,â she responded.
âThey have an uncle?â Lu Yunxue widened her eyes, and she had an envious look on her face.
âThey do. Their uncle resembles their daddy quite a lot,â Ning Ran remarked with a chuckle.
âI donât have an uncle or a daddy. I only have a mommy,â Lu Yunxue lowered her head dejectedly. Her expression was glum.
Upon seeing that, Ning Ran felt sorry for her. Much like Erbao, Lu Yunxue was a people person who enjoyed the company of others.
Unfortunately, Lu Jingyuan was aloof and distant by nature. She enjoyed being alone and resided with her two daughters in a tiny secluded city on the borders.
The woman herself had mentioned that even though this was her ideal lifestyle, it wasnât necessarily the case for her children.
âYou have me, though. You also have Erbao, whoâs your good friend. Weâre like family to you,â
comforted Ning Ran.
âBring us over to go and play with them, then! We want Erbaoâs uncle to be our uncle too.â Lu Yunxue immediately got excited.
Ning Ran stilled for a bit. So thatâs what she wanted.
âOf course, but weâll have to ask your mommy first. I canât take you away unless sheâs okay with it,â
Ning Ran stated with a grin.
âMommy will definitely agree! If she doesnât, you can try to change her mind,â Lu Yunxue mumbled.
The little girlâs words made Ning Ran laugh again. Sheâs so funny and mischievous.
âOkay. Iâll convince her. Donât worry about it,â she reassured.
âThank you, Ms. Ning!â Lu Yunxue was overjoyed.
Meanwhile, Lu Yunbing listened to the exchange quietly at the side without any objections.
She wasnât opposed to the idea of going to play with Erbao and the others. Though they could be quite noisy, it was quite fun.
âOh, right. Thereâs one more thing,â Lu Yunxue whispered.
âOh. What is it?â Ning Ran brought her ear closer to Lu Yunxue.
âCan you ask my mommy if I have a daddy or not?â she requested.
That was a serious problem. Ning Ran wasnât sure how to respond for a moment. âWhat has your mommy told you about your daddy so far?â
She had to be cautious about it. After all, it was a personal matter of Lu Jingyuanâs.
âShe said that we donât have one, thatâs all,â Lu Yunbing chimed in, which was something she usually wouldnât do.
It was apparent that she was rather interested in the topic as well. After all, it was quite a major issue.
Ning Ran felt her heart wrench for she understood the two kidsâ feelings.
Dabao and Erbao used to ask her the same question all the time.
Back then, she wasnât sure how to answer them in a way that wouldnât upset them.
In the end, she realized that they wouldnât be happy no matter what she said.
A father isnât like any other item. To children, a father was an essential figure in life. The sorrow and disappointment of not having a father wouldnât just go away after a short period of time. Instead, it would stick with them for the rest of their life.
âI think you two have a daddy. Maybe your mommy has her own concerns. Thatâs why she chooses to keep it from you. When youâre older, youâll understand that some things are complicated,â Ning Ran explained.
That was all that she could say, for she didnât have an understanding of the situation. She couldnât give them an exact answer on Lu Jingyuanâs behalf.
Regarding this matter, she had to gather more information instead of uttering baseless remarks.
âWhat Iâm trying to say is that I want you to ask Mommy and find out the truth. Then, you can secretly tell me. Donât worry. I wonât tell Mommy that you were the one who let me know,â Lu Yunxue whispered.
Hearing that, Ning Ran felt sorry for Lu Yunxue and hugged her. âNo matter what answer your mommy gives you, she still loves you two. Your mommy will always prioritize your happiness regardless of whether you have a daddy or not. You should know that.â
That was what she used to say to Dabao and Erbao in the past.
Never had she expected that she would be saying those same words to two other children.
On top of that, they werenât even her children.
It didnât seem like Lu Yunxue fully comprehended the meaning of the womanâs words. Her black, gem-
like eyes blinked as she nodded.
Right then, they heard the sound of someone walking over in slippers. Lu Jingyuan had finally woken up.
The moment she was up, Lu Yunxue and Lu Yunbing stopped talking.
âYouâre here. Why didnât you wake me up?â Lu Jingyuan felt a little embarrassed as she smoothed out her messy hair.
âItâs nothing important, so I didnât wake you. Did you get a good nightâs sleep?â Ning Ran asked.
âI did wake up pretty late today. Sorry about that,â Lu Jingyuan apologized.
âItâs fine. I get up quite late when I donât have to work, too,â Ning Ran replied while chuckling.
âPlease, make yourself at home while I go and wash up. Bing, go make some tea for Ms. Ning,â
instructed Lu Jingyuan.
Lu Yunbing jutted out her lips in response while Lu Yunxue tactfully stood up to serve their guest.
âIâll do it myself. The waterâs hot, and the kids might scald themselves,â said Ning Ran right away.
