Chapter 29: XXVII

Who? | The Dhampir (Book Two)Words: 7953

Sofia

"Father," I greet our Alpha, Dranula. "Did you find that girl?" I ask and cross my arms over my chest.

"Not yet," he sighs. "We believe she is in the mortals' land."

I walk near the cliff. This place, my gaze scans the whole village. It is almost in the palm of my hand if only that girl doesn't exist.

George.

"I'll finish my training days," I say. Still, my arms crossed over my chest, fidgeting my fingers on my arm.

I turn and face my father. "And still, no one knows that I am your daughter."

"It's for the best," he replies. "You should go to the open field and train."

It's for the best?

I shift my gaze, stopping myself from rolling my eyes.

"You know it's much harder for a female werewolf to be an Alpha," he spits. "It's part of the tradition before. The eldest son is usually the next Alpha."

He turns his back and walks away. "Now that there is a chance of having a female sitting on the throne, it's not even for you."

I chew my lips and ball my fist. I angrily stomp my feet as I go downstairs.

"Saufe, Sofia!"

"Sofia!"

I didn't greet any of them. Instead, I walk straight with a stone face.

If only you are the werewolf.

I thought it was you. Because you're female and firstborn.

I fix some strands of my hair dangling on my forehead. My pace slows down when I see Clarkson, rushing out of George's place.

She even has Clarkson.

I bite the insides of my cheeks, following Clarkson with my gaze. I frown when I see a group of werewolves dragging someone. Quickly, I walk to check the commotion.

"Okay! Okay! You don't have to drag me aggressively, okay!?" I hear an annoying voice.

Her.

The halfblood.

"George," Clarkson says, looking at the half-blood with a worried gaze.

"No one told me that going outside is not allowed," she explains.

"Then why do you have to steal Saber's car?" one of the werewolves asks.

"I didn't steal it!" She aggressively yells. "You guys saw me going back to the village."

More werewolves gather to listen to what going on in the open field.

"Why would I go back here with a car filled with food if I planned to steal it?"

The guards remain silent.

"Check the car. It is full of food," George bravely says.

Two of the werewolves check the car. Two of the guards hold her wrist and shoulder. Clarkson looks around confused. Our eyes meet but he quickly looks away.

My heart skips a beat with just a simple glance at him.

I put my hands on the sides of my hips. Stretching my neck, I follow the two guards walking to the car with my gaze.

"It's full!" one of them yells.

"You already know if I am lying or not," George says, rolling her eyes. The guards release her. She rubs her arms, the spot where the guard grips her.

She turns and faces the werewolves watching the scene.

"Who wants food?" she yells with both of her hands on the sides of her mouth. She runs to the car.

The werewolves follow, curious about what's there in the car.

I follow and check what's there too.

"Potato chips," she says while handing the food to them.

"Gummy bears," she says and hands it to a kid. "Oh, this is sweet," she warns. "Are you allowed to eat something like this? Uh... here. Beef Jerky."

"Cereals. That one needs milk though-" She stops talking when the werewolf immediately opens the item and eats it.

"Or maybe not," she continues. "Depends on you," she nods slowly.

She continues giving the food.

"What is going on here?" Elis' cold voice interrupts them. "The afternoon class is about to start." He walks to the center, towering Georgina's small frame.

"Chocolate?" George offers hesitantly.

"I don't need that human trash," he says, looking at the items with a disgusted gaze.

"Okay, everyone," I say, finally having my moment to talk. "Back to the training, now," I say while clapping.

The werewolves follow while holding the human trash that Georgina gave to them.

"Sophia!" Alexandreo greets. He runs beside me with a can in his hand.

My gaze stares at the can.

"Oh, this?" he says while shaking the can. "It's cold cola. George says not to shake it. But I'm shaking it because I'm wondering why."

"What if that's a bomb?" I ask him, raising my eyebrows. "You shouldn't take anything from that girl."

"I'm pretty sure this isn't," he says. "It's a drink."

He stops shaking the can. "How do they open this?" he asks with a frown on his face.

"Hey, Fabian. What do you have there?" he asks.

It's only the two of them that I am close with.

"She says ketchup," he says, showing a bottle with red liquid.

"Is it delicious?" I ask.

"No, it's like a tomato puree but a disgusting version," he grumbles. "Do they drink this? Why? Do they find this delicious?"

"George!" Alexandreo yells.

George looks at us. Clarkson walks beside her. His gaze watches her.

I sigh through my nostrils and bite my lip.

"Yeah?" George asks, looking at Alexandreo.

"How do you open this?" Alexandreo asks, showing the can.

George shows hers with a tiny hole at the top.

"Ooh," Alexandreo says.

I watch him open the can.

"Oh, it is this one," he says and opens the can.

However, the can explodes. The liquid gushes out of the can.

"Ah!" Alexandreo panicked. "No! My uniform!"

He looks at me with a small pout, "You're right! This is a bomb," he dramatically says.

The class soon follows. We are lined up in a neat formation. I follow Fatima's movement with my eyes.

"What is that?" Fatima asks, with a frown on her face. She is inspecting us and stops in front of Alexandreo.

"I spilled my drink, Ma'am," he answers. "I don't have time to change my clothes."

Fatima shakes her head and looks at him with disappointment in her eyes. She continues scanning us.

"Neat as always," Fatima says to me.

I slightly lift the side of my lips.

Once she's done inspecting us she walks to the front.

"Okay," she claps to have our attention. "Got to you partners, now. Today's activity is defense."

I instantly roll my eyes once my part stands in front of me.

"You should stop joining this training if you'll not attend," I say and stare at my partner, this half-blood.

She tries to stand tough while holding her shield, ignoring my words.

"You're absent," I hold my sword and prepare to attack.

"Again," I say and smash the sword on her shield. She steps back.

You should've been her instead.

My pride is being degraded because the next Alpha is not part of my bloodline!

When I heard about the next Alpha not being in our bloodline, I became so determined to prove them wrong. I am so determined to prove that I am the very first female Alpha who'll end the dark leadership of the vampires.

We never met yet but I am already mad at this girl. I never knew who she was but I am already competing against her.

I run to her and attack her. She only steps backward. Fear mixed with annoyance screams through her emerald gaze.

It is much better if no one knows you are my daughter.

Is this your best, Sophia?

"It's much better if you never existed," I mutter while I continue to attack the half-blood.

I repeat my father's favorite line whenever he's disappointed or angry at me.

I hit her shield much harder than my other attacks which caused George to stumble and fall to the ground. My gaze lands on Clarkson, looking at me with a furious gaze.

"Sophia!" Fatima yells.

She walks to us and gets the sword away from me. She offers her hand to George.

"The reason why I created this interactive activity,", she hands George the sword. "Is for you to help each other," she continues. Her gaze is looking at the class and not on George and I.

"Werewolves are known for working in a team, a pack. Which means you should be cooperative and understand each other. A pack needs teamwork," she gets the shield to George and hands it to me.

"Switch roles!" she instructs.

"Yes, Ma'am," they answer.

"What's wrong with you?" George mutters while dusting off her clothes.

All I wanted was to be better than her. All I wanted was to prove that I am better than. I deserve the throne. I deserve love. I deserve all of this attention they're giving her.
