Chapter 38: Broken (Claire's POV)
I let out an agitated huff, pacing around the room. Honestly, there is probably even a camera in here. I looked around but didn't see it anywhere, maybe there isn't. Huh.
Stupid fucks.
I walked over to the window and tried opening it one more time but it appeared to have been sealed shut. A phone, a house phone, a room phone, give me something to work with here! I went into the bathroom, tried opening that tiny window. That did open and I wasn't too far up high but something would be broken. I grabbed a pebble out of a plant vase and tossed it.
Something will definitely be broken.
I walked back out into the room getting angrier by the minute. Seriously like what the hell is my life? People just come and grab me and kidnap me whenever they want or whenever they're told?
I let out a frustrated groan, pacing around. I stopped at the desk. They have to have something here. Actually, they have to have a spare key somewhere here. It's a huge room so the house is probably gigantic. It's probably a mansion. The spare keys have to be somewhere.
I began opening drawers, looking through some books. If there's no key here, then I need a pencil or a key card. Any key card. Both of those things can either break or jam a lock. And if I can't break it and get out, then nobody's coming in here either. Before I could grab the pencil, the door clicked. I closed the drawer and quickly sat on the bed. Theo walked in, closing the door behind him with a bag of McDonald's in his hand. He doesn't know how to cook.
I'm really missing Leo's spaghetti right now.
"I'm not hungry," I huffed, folding my arms across my chest.
"Well, you need to eat."
"Theo," I whined.
"Please?" I don't understand this idiot. He brings me here to get to Leo but did he really want to? Or was this Seth's brilliant idea? If he doesn't want me here, helping him let me out may not be so difficult.
I sighed in defeat and grabbed the bag from his hands. I opened it up and looked down. "Who ordered this?"
"I did, of course. I still know your order," he chuckled. He does still know my order.
"Thank you," I gave him a small smile.
"You're welcome," he nodded. I ate slowly, staring at the bed. I hated this. When he wasn't here, I could say he's an asshole and was kidnapping me and then get angry. What kind of kidnappers do I keep running into? Now that he was just sitting there, making sure I was okay, I started getting sad. I started missing Leo. "You miss him," he stated.
"Of course, I miss him," I scoffed.
He stiffened and cleared his throat, "He's broken, Claire. You can't fix him."
"I don't want to. I never have." He stared at me, seeming confused. "I fell in love with who he is. Not who I want him to be," I shrugged.
"How can you love someone like him?"
"What's so different about you? I was with you for almost a year."
"But you didn't love me. You really love him," he argued.
"He takes care of me. He loves me. More than I do at times. Theo, it took me a long time to get him to open up. He hadn't smiled in so long, that didn't come easy." He looked away and I caught his leg bouncing against the floor. "Theo, was bringing me here your idea?"
"Of course, it was," he scoffed.
"Theo," I grabbed his hand.
Don't throw up.
He looked at me then at our hands. "Was it?" I repeated. He slowly shook his head no. "Why not?"
"I have no interest in what happens between you and Leo. Or Leo even. I don't care at all. Yeah, I was a little interested at first about what he had and I didn't."
Leo doesn't cheat. And he actually loves me.
"But he's head over heels for you, Claire. I could never give you what he can," he shrugged.
"And you're still going to let Seth kill him?"
He rolled his eyes, "Seth can't kill him. No one can kill him. Even Seth is scared shitless of him. Once he gets here and finds out that this was Seth's idea, not mine, Seth is a dead man." I watched him cautiously as he stood up, grabbing the empty bag. "Anything else in there?" he asked.
I looked down at the bag and spotted a key. A spare key. I looked up at him, slowly taking it out and keeping it under the pillow.
"He'll come find you. Just sit tight," he nodded.
"How?" I asked.
He sighed, "Well darling," he cleared his throat, "I have your phone." He pulled it out of his pocket. "And I know your password," he unlocked it, "And so I sent him your location."
"Who's side are you really on, Theo?"
"Leo's. Nobody messes with him," he shrugged. I bit back a smile as I stood up. "Exit is to the left. Open it when he gets here. I'll text you?" I nodded eagerly, taking my phone from him. "Don't make this a corny moment," he mumbled, grabbing the empty McDonald's bag. I hugged him and he groaned, "I said don't make it corny," he said but hugged me back. "He really met his match. Good luck," he winked before turning around and leaving.
I sat back down on the bed, letting out a breath. It was like I had been holding my breath this entire time but now it's okay. Now I can let go. He'll be here. Leo will be here.
â¯Â¸.â¢'*¨'*â¢â¿ â¿â¢*'¨*'â¢.¸â¯
I was currently contemplating whether I should take my chances and call Leo and risk getting caught by Seth who wouldn't be as nice as Theo and let me go, or just sit tight like I was told to do. I need to talk to him. Fuck it.
At least do it in the bathroom.
I went in and locked the door, closing the toilet lit sitting on it. I bit my nails while contemplating it. I unlocked the phone and quickly dialed in his number, suddenly realizing that I knew it by heart.
Wow, Claire. Good job.
Shove it.
I pressed the button and dialed it, holding it to my ear. It rang once. Once. And then he answered. "Hello? Claire? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
I let out a huge sigh of relief, leaning back against the wall. "I'm okay, I'm okay. Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm on my way. I had to get help, right?" he chuckled.
"Leo, I was so scared I-" I stopped talking when I heard the door outside click open.
"Where is she?" That's not Theo.
"In here!" I called out.
"Who is that?" Leo asked.
"Seth," I mumbled.
"Claire, don't go out there. Stay where you are."
"They'll have a key. I have a spare one too. Text me when you're here."
"You have a key? Did you find it?"
"No um- Theo gave it to me," I answered.
"I'll be there in ten minutes. Which room are you in?"
"I-I don't know, Theo just said-"
"Get out here!"
"Theo just said the exit is to the left. Find me when you get here, I have to go."
"Claire!"
"What?" I whispered.
"I love you," he said.
"I love you too, Leo. Just come get me out of here, please," I said before shoving my phone in my back pocket till it wasn't visible before putting the key in my bra and then walking out.
"What the hell were you doing in there?" Seth asked.
He doesn't look all that scary. Why is he the most feared again?
Oh wait, he isn't. It's my boyfriend.
"Using the bathroom. What else would I be doing?" I mumbled, folding my arms across my chest.
"Your phone is missing."
"You lost my phone?!" I exclaimed.
"You took it."
"No, I didn't. I've been locked in here this whole time, how would I get it? You owe me a new phone," I replied.
"Just shut up," he rolled his eyes, turning to a guy behind him. He looks scary. "Check the room." The guy began tearing the room apart looking for this phone that was sitting in my back pocket. I sat on the couch, watching with a bored expression. I should rile him up while I'm here. He's not making it out of this place in any case.
"You know, you're awfully stupid to be messing with Leo."
"Shut up."
"He didn't even do anything. This is just to boost your ego."
"I said shut up."
"He'll kill you."
"I told you to shut the fuck up!" he yelled.
"There's nothing here."
"Pat her down."
"Excuse me?" I scoffed, "That's not allowed."
"I'll do it." We all looked to the door where Theo stood. "She's my ex-girlfriend. I can do it, right Claire?"
I rolled my eyes, "Fine." I stood with my arms out, waiting for him to hurry it up.
He patted down my back, my waist, my stomach, my legs, then found the phone. "Find a better spot," he whispered in my ear. "Hair up." I held my hair up and he continued. "Like the key is in your bra," he smirked.
"Don't get cocky," I threw his hands off.
"She's clean," he said, turning to Seth.
Seth barked at people to find that phone before I did and then left. Theo trailing behind them. He got to the door and turned to me, winking as he closed it before walking out.
