Chapter 1186
âI see.â The woman smiled. âItâs just seven thousand five hundred, right?â
The police officer nodded. âYes.â
The womanâs smile was reassuring as she declared, âLet me handle this.â
Half an hour later, Vicky stepped out of the police station with the woman. âMiss Jandrell, thank you for
paying on my behalf,â she spoke. âI will pay you back.â
The woman did not refuse her offer and said, âIâm not in urgent need of that money, so you can pay me
back whenever you want.â
Vicky studied her face and asked, âMiss Jandrell, are you here on purpose to help me?â
The smile on the womanâs face froze, and she feigned confusion. âWhat?â
âYou came here for me, didnât you, Miss Jandrell?â Vicky stared into her eyes. âItâs far too much of a
coincidence if you keep appearing before me whenever I need help.â
She could consider it a coincidence for being helped once or twice, but this was the third time.
Seeing through Vickyâs thoughts, the woman softly sighed and confessed, âYes, I was specifically sent
for you, Ms. Shaw. My employer learned that you needed help, so he sent me to assist you.â
Vickyâs expression darkened slightly. âDo I know this gentleman?â
The woman shook her head. âIâm sorry. Iâm not sure about that either. I am simply following his orders
to carry out the task. If you have any questions, itâd be best to ask him.â
After returning home, Vicky found the business card she received before. After hesitating for a few
seconds, she decided to make the call.
The waiting sound seemed to stretch indefinitely. However, the call was eventually met with a dial tone,
indicating that it had been hung up, which was later followed by a text message to Vickyâs phone.
[Do you need something?]
Thinking that the person might not be able to answer calls, Vicky replied with a text. [Thank you for
helping me again. Iâll pay the money you lent me as soon as possible.)
After about 20 minutes, a reply finally came. [Youâre being targeted. You wonât be able to work normally
for a while.
This money means nothing to me, so you donât need to worry about it.]
Vickyâs fingers hesitated. [How do you know about my situation?]
[Is that strange?]
[Why are you helping me?] She added.
[I have my reasons for doing so. Donât worry; Iâm not a do- gooder who likes to help others.]
[Whatâs your purpose in helping me, then?]
After a long pause, a response finally came from the other side. [I canât tell you that for now. However,
you donât have to worry-l wonât force you to do anything and I wonât harm you]
Vicky looked at the message in front of her and was momentarily lost in thought.
In response to her prolonged silence, another message came through. [Ms. Shaw, considering your
current situation, you should be well aware that a dead end awaits you.]
Vickyâs fingers tightened around her phone until her knuckles turned pale.
Tyler was closing in, and without the support of the Shaw family and Harvey, she had no room to resist
and was left to be at the mercy of others.
Vicky had to admit that she was in a desperate state and resented Tyler for putting her in such a
position.
âIâm at the end of my rope, so what else do I have to lose?â she thought.
With this in mind, Vicky replied. [Can you help me, sir?]
[Of course.]
[What do you want me to do?] She typed.
