Chapter 1606
Staring at the contents of the box, Vicky and Aurora were speechless for a good while.
It was Aurora who reacted first. Fuming, she picked up her phone and dialed a number.
âAurora?â The call was quickly answered, and the person on the other end sounded confused. âIs your
cat causing trouble again?â
âYour cat is the one causing trouble,â Aurora retorted irritably. âNoah, are you out of your mind?! What
kind of gift did you send to Vicky? Canât you stop being a cold blanket?â
Noah sounded utterly bewildered. âWhatâs wrong with the gift I sent to Vicky?â
âStop pretending. Wasnât it you who sent those decapitated dolls? Seriously, Noah, did you pick up
some shoddy dolls from a street vendor?â
Noah still looked puzzled. âShoddy dolls? I didnât send any dolls. I sent a plush toy modeled after my
Panther!â
Aurora blinked. âYou didnât send those dolls?â
âI have no clue whatâs going on, okay?â
Aurora turned her head and saw an unopened gift box by the couch. Only the boxes from Harvey and
Noah had not been opened.
Harvey would never have given such a terrible gift, so Aurora naturally assumed it was Noah, who was
known for being unreliable.
âTheyâ¦really werenât from you?â
Noah was exasperated. âDo you take me for a fool?â
Aurora was about to retort when Vickyâs phone suddenly rang.
Vicky answered the call and greeted, âHarvey.â
âVicky, I just realized that the birthday gift I got you seems to have been left in my car.â
Harvey drove Vicky and Aurora back after the birthday party. Vickyâs gifts were temporarily placed in
the carâs trunk, and since Aurora stayed over at Vickyâs place, she enthusiastically offered to carry
Vickyâs gifts out when they got out of the car.
Aurora distinctly remembered that she had not forgotten to take the gift.
As Vicky looked at the contents of the box, everything became clear to her.
âMaybe I forgot to grab it⦠Itâs getting late. Why donât you go home? Just hand it to me tomorrow.â
Harvey knew Aurora was staying in Vickyâs place and knew it was inappropriate for him to deliver the
gift at this hour.â Sure. See you tomorrow, then.â
âSee you-â
Before Vicky could finish, her voice was cut short by the sharp screech on the other end of the line,
followed by the deafening sound of a car crash.
âHarvey!â Vicky paled and stood up abruptly.
Harveyâs end of the line was silent no matter how many times Vicky called out to him.
Aurora spotted the dark look on Vickyâs face and asked,â Whatâs wrong?â
âHarvey might be in a car accident.â Vicky tensed. âI heard a screech and something crashingâ¦â
Not daring to delay another moment, she hung up and called the police.
An hour later, Vicky and Aurora arrived at the hospital. Harvey had been rushed into the surgery room.
Noahâs place was closer to the hospital, so he arrived earlier than the two.
