Tyler returned to his usual, composed self. âWho knows if youâre teaming up with someone else to lie to
me?â âLie to you?â Vicky repeated in confusion. âFor what?â
âYou said you lost your bag, arrived late, and even found yourself a witness. What do you think?â
Realization dawned on her, and she widened her eyes in disbelief. âAre you trying to say that Iâm
delaying the process of the divorce on purpose?â
âIs that not the case?â
âOf course not!â
He stared down at her and chuckled. âHeh.â
Her breath caught in her throat. âYou donât believe me?â
âI can believe you.â Before Vicky could respond, he added, âIf we can proceed with the legal
procedures today.â
âI lost my bag. My passport and the divorce agreement are all goneâ¦â
He stared down at her mockingly. âSo we canât file for divorce today, is that right?â
In his intimidating presence, the tone of her voice weakened. âI didnât mean for this to happen. I didnât
expectâ¦â
He interrupted her. âVicky, you did all these on purpose, didnât you?â
âMe? On purpose?â She looked at him in confusion.
He narrowed his eyes darkly. âI get it.â
âWhat?â
âYou pretended like you were in a hurry yesterday, but you werenât even here, were you?â
She froze. âI was waiting for you right here the entire dayâ¦â
He ignored her and said, âYou kept calling me to make sure if Iâm coming and when Iâd be coming to
plan your move.â
âNo, I-â
âWhen I didnât answer my phone, you called until my phone ran out of battery so that I wouldnât be able
to reach you. That way, even if I got here, you can say that you left for a moment, and I wonât be able to
do a thing since you canât be reached anyway. Is that it?â
âI didnât-â
He interrupted her once again and shot her a half-smile. âYou knew that Iâd be coming today, so you
hired someone to make it look like you were robbed. Concerned that I wouldnât believe you, you set it
up so that your ex boyfriend will stand witness for you.â
Vicky choked on her words. She had indeed thought of getting Noah to stand witness for her, but every
single move she made sounded like a well- planned plot in Tylerâs words, and she could no longer ask
for Noahâs help.
âIâve contacted the police, and thereâs a record of that with them. If you donât believe Noah, you should
at least believe the police, right?â
He stared at her intently in silence for a long while after that.
Feeling anxious, she wanted to argue once again when he finally spoke up,â Hand me the surveillance
footage on the street, and Iâll confront the thief for you.â
She opened her mouth to speak and hesitated. In the end, she gritted her teeth and said, âThe
surveillance camera on that road is broken, soâ¦thereâs no footageâ¦â
âNo footage?â
âYeahâ¦â her voice grew weaker.
His lips curled into a sarcastic smile. âWhat a coincidence.â
