âDo you reallyâ¦hate me this much?â
Vicky jolted awake and was drenched in sweat. She grabbed her phone to check the time and noticed
that she had only slept for an hour.
After reading the last message she received from the mysterious man, she wiped her sweat away and
made a call to Harvey.
âVicky?â Harvey answered the call.
Vicky cut to the chase and said, âGloria didnât leave on her own. Sheâs been kidnapped.â
âDid Tyler do this?â
âYeah.â
Harvey did not seem surprised. âDo you know where she is?â
Vicky provided him with the address, and Harvey blurted out asking, âHow do you know this, Vicky?â
Vicky hesitated for a moment before informing Harvey about the mysterious man.
He chuckled bitterly and said, âEven after all these years, you still trust him with everything.â
Vicky stayed quiet for a while before saying, âIâm sorry for misunderstanding you.â
âIt wasnât a misunderstanding. I was at fault, and Iââ He paused in realization and asked excitedly,
âVicky, have you regained your memories?â
He knew that Vicky could not have known what happened had she not recovered her memories.
âYeah,â Vicky muttered.
âDo you remember everything?â
âMost of it, butâ¦â Vicky frowned. âThereâs still a part of my memories that are missing.â
âWhich part is that?â
âI still donât remember why I broke up with Tyler.â
âIs that part of memories important to you?â
âYes.â
After a long silence, Harvey said, âIf you insist, Iâll do my best to help you.â
As she regained her memories, she remembered everything that happened between her and Harvey.
âHarvey,â she said hesitantly. âDonât feel sorry for what happened. Iâve never blamed you. I had an
ulterior motive when I was engaged to you⦠I chose you because you were pursuing Gloria.â
âWhy me?â
âI looked into you. You may look like a player, but you havenât acted out of line once. Youâve protected
and cared for Gloria simply because she saved your life once, which indicates that you were a grateful
and decent person. The Shaws were looking for a family to marry me off toâ¦and you were the best
candidate for me.â
âWas it because you thought Iâd never fall for you?â Harvey asked.
He froze.
âI saw the hope to regain my freedom in you. I knew that youâd set me free if a day should come that I
no longer wish to continue the marriage,â Vicky said.
âBut what if I fell in love with you and refused to let you go?â Harvey asked.
âYouâre not that kind of man,â she said. âI believe in what I see.â
Harvey chuckled. âVicky, you always know what to say to convince me. Even if thereâs something I
donât want to do, Iâd have no option but to do it because of what you say.â
Vicky remained quiet for a moment before changing the subject. âHarvey, apart from hypnotists, do you
know other doctors?â
âOf which field?â
âI need experts on poison.â
âAre you poisoned?â Harveyâs tone dropped.
âNot me,â she said. âI just have a few questions.â
Harvey relaxed and said, âIâll ask around and get whoever I find to call you.â
âThank you.â
âYou never have to thank me.â
After remembering most of the past, Vicky felt closer to Harvey and was no longer as wary when
interacting with him.
