Orion glanced at the servant and said, âTyler, your mother and I had no idea why sheâd say something
like that. Besides, sheâs brought from the Hartsâ old mansionâ¦so who knows, she might be a spy sent
by another relative to drive a wedge between us.â
Although Vicky was found here, the words of a servant alone were not enough evidence to pin the
crime on them. What could Tyler do to them as long as they denied, denied, denied it repeatedly? No
matter what, they were his biological parents, which meant they could do no wrong.
There was nothing Tyler could do even if they killed Vicky. If he did, he would be labeled as âthe unfilial
and ungrateful sonâ for the rest of his life.
Tyler narrowed his eyes, which were overflowing with coldness. He was about to say something when
he felt someone tugging on his arm. He turned around just in time for Vicky to pass out gently into his
arms.
Tyler drew his lips into a thin line and lifted Vicky. Then, he took one glance at Orion and Valencia
before wordlessly striding off.
The night air was cool and quiet.
Tyler carried Vicky into the car parked by the door, and not long after, Harry sat in the driverâs seat.
âTo the hospital, Mister Tyler?â
âNo. Back to the mansion, and ask the doctor to wait there for us.â
Harry was a little shocked, but he did as Tyler instructed. After getting off the phone with the doctor, he
started the car engine.
Tyler looked down at Vicky and said softly, âHow long are you going to keep up your act?â
Harry looked up at the rearview mirror, only to see Vicky slowly opening her eyes.
She was a little puzzled. âHow did you know I was pretending?â
âOh, please. The more accurate question is what donât I know about you?â said Tyler coldly.
Vicky was speechless for a few seconds. Then, she sat up. However, Tyler was not going to let her go
just yet. He held her tightly to his chest and looked deeply into her eyes with some kind of emotion she
could not quite put a finger on.
Vicky lowered her head. âIâm sorry. I just didnât want you to keep fighting with them.â
The fact that Orion and Valencia dared to say what they said meant that they must have removed all
traces of their crime. Besides, even if they were truly the culprits, what did it matter? She was only
locked up for a few days, and nothing happened to her during that time.
No matter how unfit they were to be parents, they were still Tylerâs parents. As their son, he would
never do something that would hurt them. However, as their parents, they could do whatever they want
to Tyler and called it their right as a parent.
Vicky could not help but worry whenever she thought of how cruel and vicious Tylerâs parents were.
Besides, he would surely be criticized by others if he was to have an all-out fight with his parents under
the watchful eyes of everyone there. This would not bode well for either Vicky or Tyler since the more
he was criticized, the easier it was for them to have something to hold over Tylerâs head.
Tyler looked at Vickyâs pale, haggard face. âRegardless of whether youâre thrown into the mix, some
fights are bound to happen between a parent and a child.â
Vicky understood the underlying meaning of what he said. She raised her eyebrow and asked, âDoes
that mean that, apart from me, you and your parents have conflicts about other matters, too?â
âOf course. Conflicts are inevitable once their adopted son is involved,â replied Tyler, who absent-
mindedly raked his fingers through her hair.
âVicky, do you know why they didnât just kill you?â
