âThe pastâ¦â Vicky zoned out for a moment.
Vicky and Tyler had a tumultuous marriage in the past. He rarely came home at night, and this gave
rise to the countless scandals he had with other women.
At the beginning of the marriage, he would either come home drunk or smelling of other womenâs
perfume. Vicky even questioned him about the scandals he had with other women, but he shot her
down by saying, âYou chose this life, so you have no right to question me, Vicky Shaw.â
What he said was true. She was the one who broke up with him, and she was also the one who forced
him to marry her.
She spent the first year of her marriage being heartbroken and sad everyday. Later, she gradually
became numb. She stopped caring about all scandals, and she also stopped looking into whether Tyler
cheated on her with the women he was reportedly involved with.
Instead, she turned all of her attention to her job. The best thing for her to do was to treat each other
like roommates, she thought. However, after the car accident, she started to have hope things would
turn for the better since his attitude toward her gradually changed.
Vickyâs eyes became teary, and her voice shook when she asked, âTyler, didnât you say that you
wanted to start over with me and that you want to make the marriage work? Did you change your mind,
or did you not mean what you said at all?â
âI didnât change my mind and I meant every word I said to you, but it doesnât mean that you can restrict
what I can and cannot do without any good reason.â
âWithout any good reason?â repeated Vicky in shock. âDonât tell meâ¦you think Iâm being unreasonable
right now.â
âWell, arenât you?â
âHow am I being unreasonable when Iâm just asking you to keep your distance from those women?â
Tylerâs face darkened, and his voice turned cold. âVicky, Iâve told you a thousand times, so donât make
me repeat myself.â
It never crossed Vickyâs mind that the two of them would argue because of some random woman.
âThen tell me: what are you going to do from now on?â
âI should be the one asking you that.â
At that moment, Vicky could not help but feel immensely disappointed in Tyler.
âWhat if I say I want you to give up doing this necessary part of business?â
Tyler looked at her and said, âSo youâre saying that you donât want me to attend any more business
events?â
âNo⦠Thatâs not what I meantâ¦â
âVicky, you should know very well that this kind of situation is part and parcel of doing business.
Besides, my conscience is clear,â Tyler said coolly and calmly.
At that moment, Vicky suddenly felt like Tyler was nothing but a stranger to her.
âTyler, do you still love me?â she blurted out without thinking.
Time seemed to have become frozen as soon as the question came out.
Vicky waited a long while for him to answer but he never did, and this made her heart cold.
âYouâ¦donât love me anymore, do you?â
After another few seconds of silence, Tyler finally answered, âVicky, you shouldnât be so greedy.â
Vicky was stunned, and her breathing became erratic.
âGreedy? Are you seriously calling me greedy? How can you call me greedy when Iâm just asking my
husband for some love?â she asked.
Tylerâs eyes became cold and distant.
âIâve done everything as a husband should do. I even cut off contact with the woman you didnât like, just
as you asked me to do. Why are you still not content?â
Vicky understood him to mean that as a man, he could keep a distance from his so-called âfemale
bosom friendâ.
