Chapter 932
Cece and Jennifer looked at Vicky in surprise. âVicky, youâre awake?â
Vicky had actually woken up earlier when Jennifer returned, but she did not want to open her eyes or
move.
Hearing Cece and Jennifer talking about obsession, Vicky could not help but speak up. âSo,
obsession⦠Itâs not really genuine affection, is it?â
Cece did not have much experience with relationships, so she did not have much to say. Jennifer, who
was only a year younger than Vicky, had experienced no less than Vicky over the years.
Seeing Vickyâs interest in the topic, Jennifer spoke up, âAnthonyâs mother told me that most obsessions
arenât from true emotions, but rather a personâs deeply ingrained principles. Some people have a
strong obsession with certain things, which may be due to experiencing something profound that
contradicts their beliefs.â
Jennifer considered what she said for a moment and continued, âLetâs look at Anthony as an example.
After entrusting the family business to Anthony, Anthonyâs father took Anthonyâs mother to travel the
world. Anthony may come from a happy family, but he has always felt lonely⦠Due to the influence of
his family, he was told that true love meant selflessly sacrificing oneself and being willing to risk
everything for the other person. He yearns for someone who, like his parents, would put everything
aside for each other, even their own children⦠Lily happened to appear in his life at that time and
saved him without asking for anything in return⦠I can only imagine how much that affected him.â
Jennifer paused for a moment. âHis feelings for Lily werenât simply because he liked her, but because
that was what he felt like he needed in a relationship.â
Love was never an equation with a precise formula and never had the right standard answer. It was not
certain if what Anthony wanted was truly what he needed.
âIs that so?â Vicky seemed to come to a realization. âSo, because some people have never been cared
for properly, they might develop an obsession for the person who shows up one day and sweeps them
off their feet⦠Is that right?â
Cece pondered thoughtfully. âThat sounds like when a baby animal imprints on the first thing they see.
The first one that appears will always be the most special.â
Jennifer added, âIn fact, everyone has some degree of obsession, including myself. Looking back now,
I can definitely admit how foolish I was. Whenever I got into fights with Lily, he would always side with
her⦠When I tried to pull away, he would reel me back and whisper sweet nothings to me and make
my hope in us skyrocket. In the past, I would willingly allow myself to be used by him; I was even fine
being the camouflage for his relationship with Lily. Now that Iâve had my moment of clarity and find this
relationship to be utterly meaningless, my life has significantly improved.â Jennifer smiled sweetly,
revealing two adorable dimples on her cheeks. âI canât say that Iâve completely let go, but at least Iâve
salvaged some of my pride. Come to think of it, the relationship between Anthony and I is kind of like
those stories Iâve read that Cece introduced me to⦠Something about a player and a woman who has
no respect for herself.â She glanced at Cece. âThat sums it up, right?â
Cece nodded. âYeah.â
Vicky reconsidered her relationship with Tyler and according to what she remembered from their past,
that seemed to sum up her relationship with Tyler as well.
âHas Tyler finally come to his senses as well? Did he fight his stubbornness to realize that he can do
better than me? Was he obsessed with me
because I was the first one to show any affection toward him? Is there a possibility that what he felt
toward me⦠isnât love, after all?â She thought, feeling extremely confused by all this.
Jennifer instantly spotted the panicked look on Vickyâs face and changed the subject. âVicky, itâs been
so long since we had a gathering. Itâs been ages since weâve been to a bar together! Letâs get drunk
tonight!â
Vickyâs lethargic mood turned horrendous as she nodded in agreement.â Sure."
