Chapter 1001
Aurora pretended to be shocked to see the two. âOh, my, Miss Shaw. Did you not get anything?â
Elijah had a dark expression after being bullied throughout the auction and said, âVicky, letâs go.â
Vicky did not want to waste any time on Aurora and ignored her completely. âSure. Letâs go.â
Auroraâs face flushed in anger when Vicky ignored her. Meanwhile, Tyler watched the two leave with a
dark look in his eyes.
Vicky sat in the passenger seat, quietly gazing at the moonlight outside the window.
Before long, Elijah finished his call and returned to the car.
Vicky noticed that he seemed different from his usual self and asked casually, âWhatâs wrong? Did
something happen?â
âItâs nothing. Just some tricky business matters at the company,â Elijah replied, unwilling to share more
details. So, Vicky did not press further.
Elijah started the car and drove Vicky back home. After the car was parked in front of the house, Vicky
moved to get out and leave when Elijah suddenly called out to her, âVicky.â
She paused and asked, âWhat is it?â
Elijahâs face had a conflicted expression as he struggled to find the right words. âThereâs somethingâ¦
Iâm not sure if I should tell youâ¦â
Vicky had grown fond of Elijahâs family, and her impression of Elijah was quite good, so she
encouraged him to speak up. âItâs okay, you can tell me.â
Elijahâs gaze wavered as he spoke up, âWell⦠Although weâre pretending to be engaged, you know
that the outside world thinks itâs real. You know how often the media pays attention to me. As my
fiancee, youâre likely to attract media attention too. Youâve experienced how the media exaggerates
things, soâ¦â he trailed off. He then looked at Vicky and asked, âCan you please keep your distance
from other men while we are still pretending to be engaged?â
Vicky quickly understood. âYou mean⦠Noah, my senior back in school?â She smiled and continued,
âDonât worry. Noah and I are just ordinary friends. He has a crush on Jennifer from our studio and has
been pursuing her recently.â
Elijah let out a sigh of relief but insisted, âI did not misunderstand your relationship with Noah, but the
media loves to create speculation. Otherwise, my ex-fiancee wouldnât have broken up with me.â
The mention of Elijahâs failed engagement stirred a sense of guilt in Vickyâs heart. She nodded and
replied, âI understand what you mean. Donât worry. I wonât get too close to other men during our
partnership.â
âThatâs great.â
As Vicky was about to get out of the car and close the door, she remembered that she had not bought
a gift for Elijahâs grandmother yet. âElijah, are you free tomorrow?â
Elijah paused for a moment and asked, âWhatâs the matter?â
âLetâs pick a gift for Grandma together tomorrow. Isnât her birthday coming up?â
Seeing Elijah hesitating as if he was contemplating something, Vicky could not help but ask, âWhatâs
wrong? Do you have something to do tomorrow?â
Snapping out of his daze, Elijah replied, âNo, I donât have anything tomorrow. What time should I come
to pick you up? It
âTen in the morning,â Vicky answered.
âAlright.â
With the time set, the two bid each other farewell.
The next day, Vicky came downstairs in a timely manner. Just as she pulled open the passenger side
door, she heard Elijah shout abruptly, âDonât sit there!â
Vicky was startled and asked, âWhatâs wrong?â
Realizing that his emotions were getting the better of him, Elijah quickly lowered his voice. âUhmâ¦
Vicky, can you sit in the back?â
Vicky looked at Elijah in confusion. âHuh? Is the seat broken?
She had always sat in the passenger seat before and was confused as to why was it suddenly an
issue.
