Chapter 1002
âNo. Itâs justâ¦â Elijah stumbled over his words as if there was something difficult to say.
Vicky and Elijah had become good friends at this point, and she instantly sensed that something was
bothering him. She asked softly, âWhatâs really going on? Can you tell me?â
After much hesitation, Elijah finally spoke up, âVicky, well⦠I recently met a girlâ¦â
Vicky paused for a moment and instantly understood. âSo, you and herâ¦â
âI⦠I have entered into a relationship with her recently,â Elijah said, avoiding Vickyâs gaze.
Upon hearing this, Vicky did not have a strong reaction. She nodded and asked, âSo, does this mean
that our agreement ends here?â
Elijah hurriedly said, âNo. My whole family likes you, especially my grandmother. She even declared
that you are the only granddaughter-in law she will ever accept. So, I was wondering⦠if you could
continue to help me while my grandmother is still alive?â Realizing that his request might be unfair,
Elijah felt ashamed. âI know this is a bit unfair to you, butâ¦â
Vicky interrupted him with a smile, âI have no qualms to continue helping you out. Is there any issue
with your girlfriend?â
âIâve already explained the situation to her, and sheâs understanding. Itâs just thatâ¦â Elijah shot her a
guilty look and continued, âShe hopes that we maintain some distance when weâre alone together.
Soâ¦â
âI understand,â Vicky said calmly.
She opened the car door and took a seat in the back.
Vicky liked Elijahâs family, and she enjoyed Elijahâs company as well.
However, their relationship would remain a friendship. She did not have any romantic feelings for him.
The fact that Elijah was keeping his distance now that he had a girlfriend only convinced Vicky that he
was a decent man.
By the time they finished picking out a gift at the mall, it was already lunchtime.
To avoid any misunderstandings with Elijahâs girlfriend, Vicky did not have lunch with him and went
straight home.
Time passed quickly, and it was soon time for Old Madam Harrisonsâ birthday.
The Harrisons were a wealthy and influential family, so the guests invited to the birthday banquet were
naturally from high society.
Old Madam Harrisonsâ birthday celebration was held at the familyâs mansion.
As the âgranddaughter-in-lawâ of the family, Vicky arrived early to help out.
There were servants working in the house, so there was no need for Vicky to do any menial tasks. But
as âone of their ownâ, Vicky had to greet the guests alongside Elijahâs parents.
Although the Harrisons did not dabble much in the business world, being part of high society meant
that Vicky encountered many familiar faces when receiving guests.
Those familiar faces were filled with shock when they saw her. It was not because Vicky had divorced
Tyler, but rather that she had found a new partner so quickly, and a well-to-do one at that.
Vicky maintained a composed demeanor, responding to the curious gazes with an appropriate smile
without revealing any flaws.
As the time for the banquet approached, the hall became increasingly crowded.
Elijahâs family was already busy attending to their guests, and even Vicky started to feel a bit
overwhelmed.
When she was married to Tyler, he rarely hosted parties. On the rare occasions that he did, he hired
agents to organize the events, so she was not required to do much. Therefore, this whole ordeal was a
brand-new experience for her.
Though she felt tired, she also felt like a part of the family.
Five minutes before the banquet was supposed to start, Elijahâs mother said to Vicky, âVicky, Iâm going
to bring my mother-in-law here. Can you take care of things for me?â
Vicky scanned around and noticed that both Elijah and his father had their hands full, so she nodded.
âSure, Aunty. You can leave this to me.â
Elijahâs mother hurried away.
By this point, most of the guests had already arrived. Although Vicky waited by the entrance, there
were not many guests entering.
