Randy entered his quiet apartment with a man from a local dive bar. The random man looked into the fridge to see Bennys cookie. "Who made this cookie" he asked. Holding up the cookie Benny decorated for him.
"Hey don't put your mouth on that it's special" Randy said. "How can a cookie be special" He asked. Randy took the cookie from the man and put it back in its Tupperware container. "I think it's time for you to leave it's been fun" Randy said. The man didn't have another say before Randy closed the door in his face. Locking it of course he didn't want a second more to see what he brought in.
Randy went back to the fridge he opened a beer. Sitting at the table he began writing a thank you note for Benny. The thing was Randy had never written a proper one.
"Fuck how do you write a thank you note" Randy said.
Opening google on his phone, he typed in 'How to write a thank you note'. Many results popped up before one really struck his interest.
Dear Benny
I want to thank you for the cookie you decorated for me. It was sweet just like you.
"How corny is that" Randy said. Erasing the last sentence, holding his head in his hands. "How does my mom make this look so easy" Randy said. While re-reading the first sentence.
It was a kind gesture. "Are we really calling cookies gestures now" Randy said. Erasing once more. Thinking back to the sentence prior Randy didn't mind it being corny as hell. So he added the corniness back with.
Dear Benny
I want to thank you for the cookie you decorated for me. It was sweet.
-Randy
Randy added a little doodle of a cookie to show more of his appreciation. He didn't know if Benny would like it or not.
Spending all night on the thank you note Randy went to bed around 2am. His beer was half finished, he wasn't planning on being drunk on a weekday. He took himself to bed after undressing himself and leaving himself in his boxers.
He scrolled through his Facebook. Randy was soon on the bakery's Facebook page. Bennys smiling face was the first thing Randy noticed. Comments were made under Bennys frosted cookies.
Frosted cookies by Benny are so delicious- Mrs. Dowdy
Benny has a gift the Boys and Girls club love his frosted cookies- Mrs. Leota
Benny is a sweetheart who has a talent for decorating sweets- Carla Davis
After reading the comments Randy couldn't help but smile at the rest of the pictures. Benny was a ray of sunshine who had a gift.
Laylas profile was tagged in many pictures of Benny. Randy wanted to learn more about Benny. Clicking on her profile the first thing that popped up as a picture of an infant Benny.
Above it read Benny was adopted by the women in 2001. He was born in December on the week of Christmas. Benny was diagnosed with autism at a young age. By Bennys third birthday he was hardly speaking. The next month after his birthday he stopped speaking. Layla and Olivia were scared to death that their son was not speaking anymore. Doctors informed them that Benny would grow out of the non verbal communication. Time went on and Benny was still not speaking. Benny turned six and an answer was finally made. Many doctors told the two women the wrong thing. Except one, "Your son Benny is autistic he is what we call non verbally autistic" She said.
Randy's first impression of the bakery was warm and inviting. Layla and Olivia were both very polite people to Randy. Being both Bennys mothers they knew it would be a challenge to raise an autistic son. According to Randy they're doing it flawlessly.
