"Safe to get out." A voice crackled from the speaker in the wall, "Code 78934." The voice than said.
"Alright ladies listen up!" Sienna yelled as she stood up, "We are authorised to leave the safe room. You'll all do so in an orderly manner!" She yelled.
She then punched a code into the keypad. The door sounded a small alarm before it slid open. All the girls dressed in the Cerulean leather jumpsuit all walked out the room in an orderly fashion.
I followed out after Sienna and gasped as I took in the scene in front of me.
Men were all over the floor. Some dead, some still breathing but the blood flowing out of their bodies indicated that they would die from blood loss. I saw the other girls cleaning up all the glass, pulling the chairs off the floor and returning them to their original positions.
"Vitali said he wants these done in twenty minutes as business will continue! He said he will be sending in a team to remove all the bodies!" She said using the sound system to communicate the message.
I sighed realising there was no way I was going to get out of here. I bent down and began picking up all the broken glass cups along with the empty papers.
A few girls were mopping up all the blood off the floor. I was still cleaning and wiping the tables when I saw a whole troop of men walk in with black bags. Wearing blue gloves, they grabbed all the dead bodies and tossed them carelessly into the bags. I saw five men get special treatment. They got a separate bag with the Vitali crest on it.
"What's that about? Are they leaders?" I said turning to Sienna who was overseeing the whole process.
"Those five men were Vitali men which is why they have bags with our family's crest on it." She said nodding to the sign on the bags, "Vinchenzo will have them delivered to their families along with half a million dollars."
I nodded my head, "That makes sense. Why does he pay them?"
"He believes that because they died for the Vitali family their families deserve some sort of reward for the bravery of their deceased." She explained.
"Don't the families ask questions?"
"No. They don't know the occupation of their loved ones. Plus all the money doesn't really remind them to question anything."
"Basically they get blinded by it?" I asked.
She nodded, "Yes. Now get to work, I don't want the other girls to assume that I'm favouring you over them."
I sighed and headed back to the mess. The bodies and the blood were all cleared up. I grabbed a broom from the janitor cupboard and began to sweep up all the shards of glass that were lying recklessly around.
I was pushing all the dirt onto a dust pan when the double doors slammed open causing me to jump with fright.
"You've done well clearing it up." Vinchenzo said after his eyes raked the room. His eyes stopped and lingered on my frozen body for a few moments too long before he walked in followed by a whole entourage of men.
"I'll see you in my office, Red." Vinchenzo said as he passed by me.
I nodded my head and said nothing else.
"Oh! I'm your biggest fan girl! My ship must sail Ari!" Sienna grinned as she nudged me.
I rolled my eyes, "Sienna please stop. You know there is absolutely nothing between us. Nothing!" I snapped.
Sienna lifted her hands in mock surrender, "Feisty much-"
"Don't make a reference about my red hair or I will stab you with this broom!" I threatened cutting her off.
Sienna laughed, "Okay! Okay!"
"Vinchenzo is giving me the evil eye," I groaned as I looked at the Don himself, "I better get to his office." I muttered and waved at Sienna before I left the scheme and made my way to his office.
I stood outside not wanting to walk in, just in case he accused me of doing something.
"Why hello little Red." He greeted as he walked towards me.
His black hair was tousled, his green eyes were glimmering in the night.
"My name is Arianna." I groaned.
"I know." He flashed his teeth, "Please do come in."
I sighed and walked into his office behind him. The heavy smell of cigar was filling my nostrils. I tried to stop breathing through my nose and breath only through my mouth, but somehow I was still able to smell the strong smell.
"Why am I here?" I asked getting straight to the point. I didn't want to be here any longer than I had to.
He glared at me and suddenly I didn't feel so bold but I refused to look anywhere else. We were locked in a staring match. I lost as I looked away, feeling uneasy and uncomfortable at the intensity I could see in his eyes. My mother always said: "The eyes are the windows to one's soul."
"You will tell me all the strategies that the FBI are planning against me." He demanded after a few moments of silence.
"How would I know? I've been trapped under here for God knows how long!" I snapped.
"You haven't been down here for too long." He shrugged as he grabbed a piece of paper, his eyes were lazily scanning it, "Your friend Mason is dead. Died this morning." He said and I gasped.
"You killed him didn't you?" I accused.
"Of course not! I'm the Don, the leader," He emphasized his position, "I get other people to do it." He said laying backwards in his chair.
"Well you're the one ordering the murder." I pointed out, "In other words you are the indirect killer."
Vinchenzo laughed. "I didn't claim otherwise, Red."
"How did Mason die? A shot to the head? Or did you shoot him in the gut and allow him to bleed out?" I questioned with venom lacing my words.
"We couldn't have done that. The bullet won't penetrate all the cement he was covered in." He said.
I gasped, "You put him in cement?"
"Yes, Red. A whole barrel full. He has been unable to move his body at all. Only his head." He explained and I felt the urge to slap him.
"What is wrong with you?" I yelled.
He looked... amused!
"Nothing in particular, why do you ask?"
"'Nothing in particular!'" I mocked, "You put a living, breathing person in cement! You're deranged! You're an insane psychopath!" I said pointing fingers at him.
"I've been called worse." He shrugged.
"How are you not fazed by this? Don't you have emotions? A conscious?"
"Do you know when I killed my first living human?" He said lensing forward, his green eyes connecting with mine.
I couldn't help but notice he looked particularly regal today. His black hair fell into his eyes and he didn't bother moving them all away.
"Do I want to?" I asked sarcastically. I for once in my life wasn't curious to know.
"At seven." He said disregarding my question, "I murdered my first living and moving target at seven years of age."
I looked at him in shock, "Seven?"
He nodded grimly, "Perhaps I'll tell you the story of that one some other time." He said.
"Way to create a cliffhanger." I grumbled.
"Now back to the FBI, what do they know about my family?" He questioned lighting a cigar. He had a serious addiction to those.
"Not much," I said with a huff, "That's why they sent me undercover." I explained as though it weren't obvious.
"Then we shall send you undercover and you report to me."
"No." I said immediately.
His gaze flickered immediately back to me and suddenly my confidence diminished.
"What?" He asked.
I said nothing.
"Honestly, I do not like this silent game very much."
"I don't like your Italian game so much." I shot back.
"You're the only one who dares to speak to me that way. Not even the capo who are my most trusted me speak to me like that!" He said, "I demand you respect me. You're life is in my hand. It would do you well if you didn't do things such as this."
"Yeah sure." I said.
He sighed, "We will arrange the ceremony to officially welcome you to our family, Red. You'll be vowing Omèrta."
