One word. Unbelievable.
I couldn't really tell if it was the nauseating burning smell of the frying pan that a particular wannabe chef destroyed or the repetitive curses from a blond Scottish man on the screen that annoyed me. I had my feet tapping on the carpeted floor restlessly while I tried to search for the perfect excuse. The perfect excuse to why Jimin almost burnt Minrae's kitchen down.
The man that was seated beside me had his eyes glued to the TV, not bothered by anything he has done so far.
"I thought you knew how to cook!?" I questioned in a way that I was about to yell, but held my tongue against it at the thought of his Demonic powers.
"I thought I did. It looked rather easy when he did it" he spoke with his finger brushing his chin as he continued to stare at the man on the screen.
"Of course, blame me for taking your words. What was Minrae even thinking leaving me with you. It's seven in the evening and I should be at my event, making sure everything is alright. But here I am, babysitting a Demon who thought he could master Gordon Ramsey's lamb sauce"
"Minrae will be back soon. She took Hoseok to the hospital with Taehyung. And apparently, I should not be left unsupervised. I don't really get why though"
"You really don't!??" I hissed, standing on top of the sofa where we both were seated, gesturing to the kitchen that still had smoke spread across. "You would have burnt the building down if it wasn't for me" I completed.
"Relax kid. I am not going to do anything to you if that's what you are afraid of"
"I'm not afraid of you" I stated. Jimin then stared at the huge gap between us on the sofa and my ass that looked like it would fall off the sofa handle I sat on anytime soon.
"Look kid, why don't you tell me something you want to watch and I will put it for you"
"I am not a kid"
"Sure, you're not. Now tell me, I heard kids these days are more into the moving paintings. There was this one channel about a coconut head girl who is always lost with her talking monkey, bag and a map. Let's see" Jimin spoke before grabbing the remote and I rolled my eyes in complete annoyance.
I turned my attention to the TV and waited for the cartoon to play. For a second right there I felt like a kid. No, Jungkook, don't let him get to you.
But the wait was longer than I expected as the channel remained the same. I turned to glance at the Demon and found him in a meditative state. Eyes closed, fingers slowly moving towards the buttons on the remote like Shifu trying to find inner peace, except Jimin looked constipated trying it.
What the actual fuck.
"Jimin?"
"Shh, don't distract me. I have to focus all my energy into doing this task. So, don't talk to me"
"To change channels?"
"This requires great skill and control. The social media God does not oblige to just anyone Minrae said"
"What are you evenâ"
It was at that exact moment the door bell rang. I opened the door without checking the surveillance camera and panicked to see Harin outside. My immediate reflex was to bang the door shut, but her hand held it tightly before I could do so. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her, looking at me with her head tilted to her right and I gulped feeling threatened at her presence.
"What a warm welcome" she scolded.
I stayed silent.
"That's new. You are awfully quiet. Did one of your cards expire"
"Iâits justâyou are aâI mean" I stammered. Shit. Fuck. Great going Jeon Jungkook.
"Ah, you realized I'm an Angel" she spoke with a smirk running up her lips.
"Well, I wasn't aware. And you always nag me when you caught me do something wrong so it always annoyed me. And if you are here to punish me for bullying you at the hospital thenâ"
"Well, you are young and it is my job to look after you whether you do something bad or not. I mean, seriously? how is planning a mafia attack on your dad going to make him refill your cards. That good for nothing Yoongi is sure creative with the way he brings doom into your life" she cut me off mid-sentence.
"Look after me? And how did you know all that. Yoongi what now?"
"Long story, maybe another time. I actually came here to check on you. I heard from Minrae that you and Jimin were under the same roof and I panicked. Man was I worried"
"You were worried about me? Wow, you are full of surprises" I giggled and she smiled back.
And then, exactly then, I felt weird. Something's happening to me. Something I'd never experienced ever before. She was only smiling. I've made countless number of women smile and swoon over me. But why did hers make me feel some kind of way. I felt zoned out, staring at her in amusement. Her eyes smiled along with her lips, and a tint of pink plumed her cheeks. There were untamed strands of hair that kept falling on the side of her face and I noticed how beautiful she looked in that purple dress.
Snap. Out. Of. It. Now.
"Jungkook? You okay?" she asked, catching me zoning out.
"Me? Of course, I'm perfectly fine"
"Jimin isn't threatening you or anything is he?"
We both turned to look at Jimin and found him half standing- crouching on top of the sofa, gesturing the front of his palms to the TV while screaming on top of his lungs "Swiper, no swiping. Swiper, no swiping. Swiper, nooo swipinggg!!"
"Wow, I should be worried the other way around" She said in complete disbelief. "But go easy on him, alright? Jimin hasn't seem the outside world in centuries. He's very new to everything"
"That actually explains a lot"
"Anyways, now that I have checked upon you, I have to leave. There is some urgent work I need to get done. I'll see you around. Next time hopefully with you not eating my head"
I chuckled at her statement as she swung open the door to leave. There was a constant debate in my head, asking to make her stay. But that would probably sound wrong. Harin waved and started walking towards the elevator and I watched her. Just when the elevator door opened the thought struck me.
"Hey, you will be coming to the event tomorrow, right?" I yelled, catching her attention and scaring the old woman who walked past my door as she cursed under her breathe.
"Well, I don't really knowâ"
"Do come, I'd like to make it up to you. If that's okay" Harin looked confused but eventually smiled and nodded.
With Harin out of my sight, I pulled the door close and walked towards the living room. It was the same old feeling watching the cartoon playing on the screen. The girl never fails to annoy. She kept looking for something that was literally behind her and repetitively asked for it like it's a million miles away.
"You know" I started. "Why don't we take this moment to explore a few human inventions that you may not know the use off?" I suggested with a smirk running up my lips and the Demon hopped to my side in complete joy, nodding his head in approval.
If what Harin said is true about Jimin not really being equipped with normal gadgets at every household. Then I knew exactly how I wanted to spend this 'so very special moment' with this divine being. He needs a proper mentor. Someone who could enlighten him with some good and right knowledge. I folded my arms against my chest, ready to teach him the basics.
"So, lets start with the atomic bomb named microwave, shall we?"
