I'm BACK!

Wuxian was nervous.

He had prepared a spread of bland food for his soulmate and sat at the table, staring at the door.. Waiting for his love to return.

He felt a laugh bubble up when he remembered Wangji joking about being the doting wife.

Today, he will be the one doing all the doting..

Wangji enters the room, looking haggard and defeated.

Wuxian jumps into action and goes to take Bichen, helps him remove his outer robes and brings the bowl of hot water over and helps him wash up.

Wangji looks at Wuxian as the smaller man gently wipes the water from his face: "What's going on?"

Wuxian smiles gently at him: "I'm pampering you."

Wangji narrows his eyes: "Why?"

Wuxian huffs: "You do this for me everyday. I thought that today, I'd return the favor."

Wangji didn't question it further and allowed Wuxian to take his hand and guide him towards the food.

Wangji looks suspiciously at it: "You prepared this?"

Wuxian laughs at the fearful look on his soulmate's face: "No. I don't want you to die. I blackmailed Jingyi into preparing it."

Wangji reaches over and kisses Wuxian's hand before eating in silence.

Wuxian stares at his true love as he slowly finishes his meal and when he's done, Wangji turns to him and whispers: "Thank you."

Wuxian rings his hands, filled with nervousness: "Umm.."

Wangji pulls the smaller man closer and wraps his arms around his waist: "What is it?"

Wuxian looks down and whispers: "I went to see Healer Shi today. She gave me the all clear to resume my full duties."

Wangji beams at him and leans in to kiss his forehead: "That's good news."

Wuxian looks into his mate's eyes: "I have a present for you.."

Wangji watches Wuxian reach down to pull out the tassel Wangji gave him as a soul-bonding gift. The one he wears everyday on his belt; his mother's tassel.

Wuxian stands up and Wangji joins him, a little confused with what Wuxian wants to do until Wuxian holds his hand up for him to take it.

The moment his warm fingers touched the cold ones of his soul-bond, he felt her presence.

"My sweet child.."

It's been many years.

He sat in the snow, the rain and strong winds, hoping to hear her voice one last time.

To be in her grace, to hear her singing.. To gaze upon her warm eyes..

He feels every fiber of his being revert to a child who longs for his mother.

She moves closer to him and cups his cheeks with her soft hands, whispering his name: "Lan Wangji.. You've grown so much.. Look how tall you are!"

Wangji's lips wobbled as tears fell silently down his cheeks.

He never knew how much pain he shunned deep in his soul when he was forcefully separated from her.

He missed her so much.

She moves her hands, checking her child in wonder: "I've looked over you for years, wondering when we would meet again."

Wangji's voice betrayed him.

He found himself unable to do anything but nod.

She wraps her arms around him and whispers: "Your Excellency.. It is a great title on you."

The moment he was safely nestled in her arms, a flood of repressed emotions came crashing out of his soul and he found himself sobbing uncontrollably.

She pats his back, grateful that the man who summoned her was strong enough to let her comfort her baby: "My greatest fear in life was that my children would be stuck in a loveless marriage like me. I feared that you would turn out callous and rigid like your father and his ancestors. I feared that you would lead a meaningless life with no adventure or risks."

Wangji couldn't stop.

He tightens his hold on his mother as she whispers to him: "I'm so proud of you. Watching you follow your heart made me at peace. Thank you my son, your life gave meaning to mine. I regret nothing now."

Wangji whimpers in her arms, hiding his face in her neck, smelling her deeply.

She smells like his Wei Ying..

She looks happily at Wuxian and whispers: "Thank you."

Wuxian smiles at her and nods.

After a few more minutes, Wangji finally mustered the strength to let go and gaze into his mother's face: "I missed you."

She chuckles, lovingly wiping the traces of tears from his face: "I figured as much.."

The door bursts open as Hweiru runs in, showering the room with her laughter.

She jumps into Wuxian's arms as Sizhui follows her in, shaking his head: "Sorry father, she wanted to say goodnight and wouldn't take no for an answer."

Lady Lan looks joyfully at the little girl in Wuxian's arms: "Who's that?"

Wuxian plants a gentle kiss on the cheek of the happy girl in his arms and says: "These are our children, Lan Sizhui and Lan Hweiru."

Wuxian extends his hand for his son and Sizhui immediately takes it, bowing to the beautiful woman that appears to him.

Hweiru wiggles out of his hold to bow too.

Wangji's mother gasps while staring at them before turning to look at Wangji: "These are your children?"

Wangji nods.

She looks at them once again and whispers: "My grandchildren?"

Wangji steps closer to Wuxian and picks up Hweiru into his arms: "This is my family."

She steps closer to them, pinching Hweiru's cute cheeks and patting Sizhui's shoulder before touching a strand of Wuxian's hair: "You must be the manifestation of my prayers, Divine Oracle. Thank you for being part of my son's life."

Wuxian blushes as she plays with his hair: "I'm the one blessed to be his soul-bond."

She leans in and whispers into his ear: "Thank you for making me the happiest mother in the world."

He smiles at her and nods.

She gazes at her son's family and says: "May the holy deities bless you with adventures that will fill your soul with wonder and feed your happiness to no end. Be at peace my son, for you have completed my dreams."

With one last smile, she fades back to where she came from.

Sizhui saw the look on Wangji's face and quietly took Hweiru back to her bed.

It took a few seconds for the taller man to get his bearing.

He never imagined he would meet his mother ever again.

It felt like the happiest and the most freeing dream.

He turns to look at the man who made it come true and found him staring at him.

Wuxian whispers: "Are you alright?"

Wangji charges at him, engulfing him in a tight embrace, lifting him off of the ground from the sheer force of emotions: "I have no words to express how I feel."

Wuxian wraps his arms around Wangji's neck and leans in to comfort him: "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?"

Wangji takes a deep breath from Wuxian's comforting smell, realizing that what he's feeling is pure love. The kind of love that spans lifetimes and transcends all other emotions. The kind that forges bonds beyond reason and doubt. The kind he lost when his mother died and found when Wuxian smiled at him for the first time.

He tightens his hold and whispers: "You healed me."

Wuxian felt his heart filled with happiness as Wangji placed gentle kisses on the side of his neck while whispering: "You are my perfection. Thank you for completing me."

Wuxian leans back to gaze lovingly at his soul-bond's eyes.

Today marks the passing of a year since they were soul-bonded.

For the home, the love and the obsessive devotion his mate has shown him all year long, he was happy that his blessings finally brought peace to the one he cherishes the most.
