Chapter 142
After an hour, the door of the operating room slid open. At that instant, Gabrielle tensed up and looked
at Christian reflexively, afraid that he would rush forward and upset Victoria again. However, he only
stood there and looked inside the operating room. Then, he asked the doctor, âHow is she?â
âSheâs fine.â The doctor took off his mask and wiped the sweat on his forehead. âItâs just that Miss
Coleman is too weak and needs to rest well. So I advise asking those not on good terms with her to
stop visiting her for these few days. If you know people on ill terms with her, please tell them this,â the
doctor said.
Gabrielle gulped and glanced at Christian when she listened to the doctorâs advice. Just as she was
taking a sneak peek at him, he was looking in her direction too. This caused her to shiver, and she
lowered her head quickly, not daring to look around.
âI understand.â He took another look inside the operating room and gripped his knuckles slightly before
releasing them and walking toward the elevator.
Gabrielle was slightly relieved when she watched him leave without kicking up a fuss, but she was still
tense as long as he was still within her sight.
Suddenly, Christian turned to her and asked, âAre you Gabrielle?â
âHuh?â Her heart trembled, and she stood straighter. âYes. My name is Gabrielle; the same name as
the British singer,â she said.
Christian nodded and said faintly, âIâll give you a month and a half of holiday.â With that being said, he
walked into the elevator.
Only when the elevator was closed shut did Gabrielle regain her senses. Did Mr. Thatcher give me a
month and a half of holiday so I can take care of Victoria? she thought.
She ran her hand through her hair, mumbled something incoherently, and followed the nurse, who was
pushing Victoria back to the ward. Because the anesthesia hadnât worn off yet, Victoria was still asleep,
which made Gabrielle feel that she had worried too much. If she had known things would turn out like
this, she would not say those disrespectful words to Christian.
Ding!
As the elevator arrived on the first floor, Christian stepped out of it. When he left the hospital, he
encountered Bella by the door; she was sitting in a wheelchair with a bouquet on her knees. This time,
it wasnât Lucas pushing her wheelchair but a maid.
âChris, are you here to visit Victoria too?â Bella asked softly.
Christian twitched his lips when he looked at her. Then, instead of answering her question, he asked,
âHow did you know I was here?â
âOh?â There was bewilderment on Bellaâs face, but then she smiled. âYou must have misunderstood
me. I am not here for you but to visit Victoria.â
Christian scoffed and left without saying anything.
Bella furrowed her eyebrows for a second at his departing figure before smoothing out her expression.
âChris!â she shouted. âOther than visiting Victoria, Iâm here to talk to you about something.â
Christian stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her, but he didnât stroll toward her and just looked
at her sardonically. âWas it Mr. Carter who told you that Iâm here?â
Mr. Carter was the driver of the Thatcher Family. There was no way his mother would tell Bella about
his whereabouts; only Mr. Carter would.
âDonât overthink about it. I asked Mr. Carter about your whereabouts as I need to tell you something.â
Bella sighed resignedly.
âWhat is there for me to overthink? That Mr. Carter is why you always know where I am?â Christian
chuckled.
âIâm only saying that donât blame it all on him. Itâs unfair for Mr. Carter if you accused him of such a
thing,â she said as she bit her lips.
His expression was unreadable as he stood against the light; the shadows covered his expression.
âIs it convenient for me to talk to you after Iâm done visiting Victoria?â Bella asked softly, breaking the
silence between them.
However, Christian didnât answer her. Instead, he said, âStop visiting her for these few days.â
Bella smiled bitterly when she heard his warning. âAre you afraid that Iâm going to hurt her? After all,
she used to be my friend. Plus, there are many people in the hospital. So even if I wanted to hurt her, I
didnât have the chance to do so. It really hurts me, knowing that this is how you see me.â
âYou donât need to do anything. You have done more than enough just by standing before her.â
Christian looked at her with ridicule.
His words made Bella stiffen, which resulted in more dejection in her eyes.
Although she was silent, the maid behind her could no longer stand his attitude. âMr. Thatcher, how
dare you say such things to Miss Spritz?! She had given up on suing Miss Coleman and even forgave
her by visiting her when Miss Coleman did such an unforgivable thing. Where is your conscience?â the
maid said.
Christian looked at the maid accusing him hotly. When their eyes met, the maid, fuming in rage,
immediately lowered her head and didnât dare to make eye contact with him. But still, the anger and
unwillingness on her face did not disappear.
Nevertheless, Christian merely tilted his head and looked at Bella when he saw that the maid had
lowered her head. Then, he said slowly, âThere are three types of people who can forgive the murderer
who wanted to kill them and still treat them nicely: a saint, a fake, and an idiot.â He bent down and
looked straight into her eyes. âI think you are not a saint or an idiot.â
Bellaâs smile faltered as she bit her lips, and tears glistened in her eyes; she looked alluring. âChris, you
ââ
Before she could finish her words, Christian cut her off. âDonât you have something to tell me? Letâs
go.â With that being said, he didnât take another look at her and left.
âMiss Spritz, he is accusing you of something you didnât do!â The maid glared at Christianâs silhouette.
Although she was in a rage, she kept her voice low to avoid being heard by Christian.
Although Bella was smiling, her tone was full of woe. âNonsense. Chris is not that kind of novelxo.com
fast updateperson.â As she was speaking, she pushed the wheelchair and went outside.
When the maid looked at the flowers on Bellaâs legs, she asked hesitantly, âSo⦠We wonât be visiting
Miss Coleman?â
Bella stopped in her tracks when the maidâs question reminded her of why she was here in the first
place. She took the bouquet off her legs and handed them to the maid, saying, âThrow it away; it smells
bad. Weâll buy other flowers and visit Victoria next time.â
âOkay,â the maid said, and she pushed the wheelchair. âForgive me for my impertinence; as a
murderer, she doesnât deserve you wasting your time on her. Itâs not like she would thank you for it.â
âNo matter what, she used to be my friend. I canât be a heartless person just because she is one.â Bella
smiled and said softly.
Around 6.00PM, Bella and Christian entered a Japanese restaurant. After she ordered a bunch of food,
she looked at him and said, âI ordered almost everything you liked. Go on and see if there is anything
you want to add on.â
âThereâs no need for that,â he said.
To him, ordering food with certain people was just a waste of time as he wouldnât be in the mood to
indulge in them.
