Chapter 55
âSit in the passenger seat,â Christian cooly instructed from the window.
It took Victoria some difficulty to respond with a hum, after which she closed the rear door and moved
to the front seat.
Although the window had been opened, there were still traces of tobacco in the car. It wasnât
unpleasant, but the torment was worse than a stomach ache.
It was the same kind of cigarette that he smoked when he broke her leg. The smell was so familiar to
her that it tormented her on a nightly basis.
The Bentley quickly disappeared into the night after it was started.
Out of all the Rolls-Royce cars outside the villa, Bella followed Lucasâ gaze and commented with
bitterness, âYou still canât forget Victoria?â
âWhat?â Nancy was originally discussing business with Kevin. When she heard Bellaâs comment, she
responded, âLuke, you still fancy that murderer?â
Kevin remained silent, but gave Lucas a look of disapproval.
The words âYeah, I canât forget herâ rolled up and down Lucasâ throat, but when he finally spoke, it was
the total opposite. âNo.â
âThatâs for the best!â Nancy breathed a sigh of relief, but continued with a terrible expression. âVictoria
and your sister always had a good friendship, but because Christian fancies your sister, she decided to
knock Bella down. Such a ruthless woman would not be allowed into our family, even if sheâs severely
injured.â
âYour momâs right,â Kevin added finally.
Lucasâ Adamâs apple rolled up and down while his eyes had darkness in them. His voice was lower
than usual when he finally replied, âMom, Dad. Donât worry, I still know how to differentiate right from
wrong.â
âYeah, Victoria is a murderer. You can be forgiven for not knowing her true colors when you pursued
her. If you know that she is vicious but still pine for her, then you really shouldnât be doing this,â Nancy
advised with a frown.
Lucas lowered his eyes to cover his gaze. âNo way.â
âBut Lucasâ¦â Bella pondered for a while before she continued, âWhen Scarlett came to the banquet to
look for me, she said that she saw you embracing Victoria and asked that I keep an eye on you.â
âEmbracing Victoria? Luke, was Scarlett telling the truth?!â Nancy was agitated and almost forgot that
she was in the car. She wanted to stand up, but ended up knocking into the roof of the vehicle, which
caused her to pale.
Lucasâ pursed lips tightened into a line as his expression changed into annoyance, guilt, and anger at
Scarlett.
âYou need not worry, Mom. Maybe it was a misunderstanding. You know how Scarlett does things
without thinking.â Bella coldly gazed at him before gently comforting Nancy.
Nancy rubbed her aching head and glared at her son. âTell me, is it true?!â
âIt is true,â Lucas acknowledged after his eyes flickered a few times and his throat tightened under his
motherâs red face and Bellaâs fatherâs disappointment. âBut⦠she was looking for me.â
Kevin looked at him thoughtfully with traces of displeasure.
When Nancy heard this, her anger finally dissipated. âWhy did she look for you?â
âNot sure. Scarlett came before she could say anything.â Lucas tilted his head and looked out the
window as he replied with exhaustion.
Bellaâs eyes naturally fell on his side profile as the corners of his mouth forced an imperceptible arc.
âVictoria did such a horrible thing to Bella, yet she dares to pester you. This wonât do; I need to have a
word with Denise and Glen and ask how they educated their daughter,â Nancy replied angrily.
Lucas continued to stare out the window, but he had tilted his head even more while he looked stiff.
âWhy should you look for them? They had already cut ties with Victoria two years ago, so looking for
them wonât change anything,â Kevin reminded because he could tell that his son was lying.
There was silence for the rest of their journey.
Veronica sat in the passenger seat with her butt to one side as she was tense and couldnât relax.
When the car stopped in front of the hospital, Christian ordered without even looking at her, âGet
down.â
âThanks.â A pale Victoria thanked him and opened the door to get down. As soon as she did that, the
Bentley flew past, as if he wasnât willing to wait for even a second.
She gave a bitter smile when she noticed that and made her way to the hospital with her painful
stomach.
The doctor who treated her was the same one as before. âThere will be problems sooner or later if you
donât take good care of your health.â
What doctors hated the most was patients who refused to listen to them.
âThanks for the reminder.â She was now resting on the bed with a soulless gaze. Although she had
been currying favor with Christian, it didnât look like there was any benefit.
The doctor knew that she was ignoring him, but found it useless to repeat his words. âStay in the
hospital for the next two days.â
âI have to leave after taking the infusion, so please prescribe the medicine for me,â Victoria rejected as
she still needed to work the next day.
The doctor gazed at her without saying much. âIâve already made the consequences clear to you last
time. I canât do anything if you refuse to listen. Iâll have the prescription ready for you in a while.â
âThanks,â Victoria replied.
It was close to 12.00AM by the time she had received the infusion. She called for a cab with the
intention of returning to Delta Club. When the driver saw that she was a beautiful girl working in such a
place, he asked her for her price.
âIâm not that kind of girl,â Victoria answered as she paid for her fare.
The driver slammed the door shut before a disdainful voice floated from the window. âI donât
novelxo.com fast updatebelieve that people who work in this place arenât involved in that kind of trade.
Is it because youâre afraid that Iâll give less?â
Victoria paused, but the driver had already gone by the time she turned back. She took her phone and
searched for the app to report the driver.
Over in the dormitory, with Daisy absent, Gabrielle was whimpering as she spoke to someone on the
phone.
âDarling, itâs my fault. Please forgive me, alright?â
âThe man whom you saw today and I have no relationship. Heâs just a client. If I want to sell, I obviously
need to cater to him!â
âWell, I swear that Iâll love you alone. Thanks for understanding, muack!â
Gabrielle waved her hand when she saw Victoria entering before continuing with her telephone call.
Victoria nodded as she placed the medicine away and quietly sat on the bed in thought.
âDid I disturb your sleep with the phone call?â Gabrielle asked after she hung up and continued, âIâm
sorry. Itâs just that my boyfriend is angry and has threatened to break up with me, so I was apologizing
to him.â
âYou have a boyfriend?â Victoria clarified.
âY-Yes.â Gabrielleâs eyes flashed as she stuttered, âB-But my relationships with the t-the clients a-are
ambiguous. Iâd never do anything to cheat on my boyfriend!â
Victoria was not interested to know whether Gabrielle had cheated or not, but merely said, âIf you
continue to chase a man, but discover later that he already has someone whom he likes and
accidentally hurt his beloved, how do you think he would feel?â
Maybe it was because she had too much to drink, so she had the liquid courage to be impulsive and
ask without a thought to the consequences
