Chapter 73
Victoria pursed her lips and didnât make a sound. If she agreed, Nancy would make things twice as
hard for her, but if she denied it, Nancy would put the blame on her brother. As she could not win either
way, she chose to remain silent.
âBella was kind enough not to press charges against you even though you almost ran her over, and
only made you serve two years in jail, yet you repeatedly tried to harm her!â Nancy strode up to the
hospital bed. Using her carefully-manicured fingers, she poked Victoriaâs forehead forcibly. âDid you sell
your conscience to the devil?!â
Victoriaâs forehead immediately turned red, but she did not struggle.
Seeing this, Lucas frowned. He subconsciously took a step forward, but quickly retreated, and looked
away from the two.
âIs this how youâve been brought up, Mrs. Spritz?â At that moment, Christian, who had finished his
phone call, pushed the door and walked in.
When Nancy saw him come in, a flash of surprise flashed across her eyes, and her gaze moved from
him to Evelyn with a vague tinge of anger. âEvelyn, you and Christian came over together after dinner?â
âChristian, why did you come so late?â Evelyn also had a surprised look on her face.
Meanwhile, Christianâs expression did not change. âI just finished my work at the company, so I came
over.â He glanced at the unusually obvious redness on Victoriaâs forehead. âAre you dumb? Canât you
dodge?â
âIâm not dumb.â But I canât dodge.
No matter how badly Bella hurt her, she was only being âcareless,â but as her brother had blatantly
splashed Bella with tea, she was âin the wrong.â
Christian hummed meaningfully before averting his gaze.
âLet them say what they want. Just focus on drinking your soup. Itâll get cold if you donât drink it soon.â
Evelyn served another bowl of soup and handed it over to Victoria, who thanked her and took a small
sip.
The soup was fragrant and full of umami, but she couldnât savor it. If she could, she would prefer for her
parents, not Evelyn, to come to the ward to take care of her and protect her from outsiders.
âAre you on Victoriaâs side just like your mother?â Nancyâs voice was bordering on a shrill due to her
high pitch. âBella lost a leg to Victoria because of you. Have you forgotten?â
Christian sat down on the bed beside her and casually avoided her questioning. âEven middle school
students wouldnât do something as childish as picking sides.â
âMr. Thatcher, havenât you learned to respect your elders?â Lucasâ amber eyes were tinged with a dark
hue.
Christian smirked. âDoesnât Mrs. Spritz know how to love and care for her juniors?â
The ward was spacious, but the confrontation between the group of people made the room feel
cramped to Victoria. Even the air became thick, making every breath unusually difficult for her.
âEnough of this nonsense. Thereâs still a patient here. What are you guys doing?â Evelyn sighed
helplessly and swept her eyes at Lucas and Nancyâs empty hands. âNancy, Lucas, you werenât actually
intending to visit Tori, were you?â
Without waiting for the two to answer, she continued, âDoesnât look like it to me. After all, nobody visits
a patient empty-handed.â
âWe came here just to get justice for Bella.â Lucas said before Nancy, âAs Vincent hurt Bella for no
reason, my mother and I want to know if it was on purpose, or if he was being used by a nasty person.â
When he mentioned the word ânasty,â he looked at Victoria.
âIs it really for no reason? Why does it seem to me that Toriâs injury is worse than Bellaâs?â Evelyn
clicked her tongue. âI feel pained just by looking at the injury on Toriâs leg.â
Hearing this, Nancy was enraged and chided, âEvelyn, are you questioning our words?â
âNot at all. I was just curious and asked a casual question. Donât misunderstand.â Evelyn laughed
helplessly. âI heard that Bella accidentally spilled hot tea on Victoria, and it was even an entire pot of it.
She really is careless.â
As soon as she spoke, Lucasâ phone rang. After he answered the call, he hummed a few times with a
frown, then turned his head and said to Nancy, âBella said not to blame Vincent and Victoria, and that
she accidentally injured Victoria more seriously, so we should apologize to Victoria and go home.â
Evelyn laughed lightly, knowing who these words were meant for.
âSheâs already been hurt, but sheâs still helping her!â Nancy stubbornly turned and pointed at Christian,
saying, âChristian, Iâm just going to ask you one thing. Why did you drop the charges against them
when Vincent and Victoria put Bella in this state?â
He dropped the charges? Victoria let out a sigh of relief. She had already been in jail once, and if her
brother had to suffer the same fate as well, even if it was only for a few days, there was no telling what
others would say about the Coleman Family.
Christian smiled. âAfter Vincent trashed my clubhouse, the Coleman Family gave me that piece of land
in Glogan as compensation; Vincent burned the back of Bellaâs hand, but Bella burned Victoriaâs whole
leg. Whether it was intentional or unintentional, both sides have gotten even, so why canât I drop the
charges?â
As he had spoken for both sides, Nancy was rendered speechless.
âIâve heard that Mr. Spritz is an honest and upright person. I wonder what he thinks about this matter?â
Saying that, Christian turned his attention to Lucas.
Lucas frowned slightly, glancing at the bandages on Victoriaâs leg. Then, he said to Nancy, âMom, letâs
go.â
âWhy are you on Victoriaâs side as well?â Nancy was furious, her elaborate makeup failing to hide her
livid expression.
Lucas replied, âIt was because Bella scalded Victoriaâs leg first that Vincent splashed tea on her, so we
canât blame Vincent and Victoria for this.â
Nancy pointed at the tip of his nose, so furious that she could not say anything for a long while. Then,
she glared at Victoria and angrily left the ward, slamming the door loudly behind her.
âWeâll be taking our leave first.â Lucas glanced at Victoriaâs pale face, wanting to say something, but in
the end, he remained silent and opened the door to leave.
Evelyn stared at the closed door of the ward and sighed. âNancy is so lucky to have such excellent
children.â
âSheâs probably used up all the blessings she accumulated in her previous life.â Christian hummed
lightly, the end of his eyes tinged with a faint sneer.
Evelyn laughed and chided him, saying, âIf you are a junior, you should behave like a junior. Donât
judge your elders.â
Christian only smirked and didnât reply.
âAll of us mustâve made so much noise that you couldnât rest. How about this? Iâll go back with Christian
first and come back to see you another day,â Evelyn got up and suggested.
Victoria agreed. She was about to get up and see her off, but Evelyn held her down. âYouâre still taking
an IV, and your leg is still injured, so donât trouble yourself. Iâm not a stranger to you, anyway.â
After she gave a few more words of concern to Victoria, she left with Christian.
Outside, night had fallen. Through the car window, the trees cast their swaying shadows on Christianâs
sharp and handsome face.
âIâll have to thank you on Toriâs behalf for what happened tonight.â Next to him, Evelyn smiled,
seemingly in a good mood.
âIâm afraid youâve misunderstood.â He started up the Bentley. The shadows of the trees got projected
on Christianâs face like a roll of film, obscuring the look in his eyes. âMy dismissal of the case has
nothing to do with Victoria.ânovelxo.com fast update
Evelyn slightly raised her eyebrows. âOh?â
âThe loss at Delta Club is not even worth mentioning compared to the Coleman Familyâs piece of land
in the new district of Glogan. I canât possibly give up such a large profit for Bella,â Christian said
