Chapter 94
âWhen you put it that way, it sounds like Iâm interfering too much.â Despite the smile on Kevinâs face, it
didnât reach his eyes.
Christian merely drank without a word, tacitly implying his agreement to that statement.
âItâs rare to see you care about someone so much.â Kevin sighed again and said, âYour mother and
Nancy are at odds with each other, and itâs fine that sheâs on Victoriaâs side, but you are following your
motherâs footsteps⦠Thatâs not proper.â
The Thatchers and the Spritz wanted to be joined through marriage, and Victoria was the latterâs
enemy, but the Thatchers kept standing up for Victoria. At least from the viewpoint of an outsider, it
really seemed like the Thatchers were being improper.
âOthers may not be clear about the car accident two years ago, but you donât have to feign ignorance
when you know the truth. The one who was set up and suffered a loss was me, not them. All of you
donât have to come seeking pity from me every other day by playing the victim card.â
Christian furrowed his brows slightly as he raised his glass and finished his drink. The anger on his
face couldnât be hidden, which was rare indeed.
His attitude made Keven frown in confusion with a dash of annoyance. âWhat do you mean feigning
ignorance when I know the truth? Are you saying that our family staged the car accident two years
ago?â he asked, raising his voice at the end.
âYou know the answer very well, whether itâs a yes or no.â For the past two years, Kevin kept making an
issue out of that accident to get Christian engaged to Bella, and honestly, his patience was wearing
thin.
Kevin stared right at him and growled, âChristian, donât forget that the police back then said that the
evidence was concrete.â
âHmph!â Christian sneered. âIf you insist on acting dumb and debate about this matter, Iâm sorry, but Iâll
have to pass.â
After he said that, he left his empty glass on the table, turned his head around, and left Kevin on the
spot. Kevinâs facial expression went through a few changes, but in the end, he quickened steps and
blocked Christianâs path, chuckling. âOkay, letâs not speak about that accident if you donât like to bring it
up.â
Christian glanced at him indifferently, and even though his expression had returned to normal, he still
didnât say a thing.
âIâm old and not as fit as a young man like you. Letâs sit down for a talk.â He pretended not to notice
Christianâs dissatisfaction as he sat in an empty seat behind Christian. After a moment, Christian
followed suit as he sat down, an open seat in between them.
âYou can speak your mind. I donât have much time.â
âChristian, are you not agreeing to get engaged to Bella because youâre missing someone in your
heart?â Kevin asked.
The temperature in the room was a little high, and Christian took off his jacket and placed it over the
back of the chair. âI just donât want to spend the rest of my life with a manipulative woman.â
âAssuming that Bella was the one who staged the car accident two years ago, did she harm your
interests or that belonging to your family?â Kevin asked. âShe didnât, did she? So, why are you splitting
hairs about this?â
Christian snorted. âThatâs an exceptional way for you to apologize on your daughterâs behalf, Mr.
Spritz.â
âIâm not apologizing for Bella, but I just donât want you to go down the wrong path.â Kevin knocked on
the table lightly as he spoke as though he had been through it all, âSince you were young, your life has
been smooth sailing, and maybe you couldnât get past it that you were set up by Bella this time. Soââ
Christian cut him off coldly, âSo are you admitting that she did set me up?â
A stunned Kevin didnât reply and continued to say instead, âChristian, donât ruin your future because of
your arrogance. Indeed, Bella isnât as pure as she portrays herself to be, but she has never done
anything to betray you or your family. Is that not enough?â
âI never thought I had to rely on anyone, much less a woman, to secure my future.â Christian fixed his
eyes on Kevin and said bluntly, âIâm different from you, Mr. Spritz.â
As if Kevin couldnât understand what he meant, he said, âAmongst Mr. Philipâs grandchildren, your
ability is outstanding, but he does not favor you, and the shares youâre holding in the company are
nothing compared to the children of your uncle, right?â
âYour point?â Christian crossed his legs, rested his arm on the back of the chair, and leaned back a
little, his shirt revealing his nice-looking collarbone and slightly bulging chest muscles.
âMr. Philip adores Bella, and if you marry her, she can help you put in a good word before him.
Furthermore, if youâre quick enough, you can marry Bella and have her give birth to the first great-
grandson for Mr. Philip, and he would definitely give a huge portion of shares to the child.â
After his lengthy explanation, Christian concluded it directly with one sentence. âAre you here to urge
me to get engaged to Bella?â
Kevin paused and nodded firmly. âYes.â
Christian snickered softly, then rose to his full height and picked up his suit jacket. âIâll repeat myself. If
you guys are in a rush, you can always get someone else to marry her.â
Finally, he wore his jacket and sauntered away, not giving Kevin a chance to speak about the matter.
All traces of a smile disappeared from Kevinâs face, and he finished the wine before slamming the glass
on the table, gritting his teeth. âYou little b*stard, you donât know whatâs good for you!â
At 8.00PM, the birthday party had only begun for two hours, and the departure of the birthday girl didnât
affect the jovial mood of the guests in the slightest.
After Christian parted ways with Kevin, he bumped into Matthew, dressed in a white suit, with Janice
hanging on him like a koala bear.
âThis girl kept pestering me to look for Miss Coleman, but we couldnât find her after going around a
couple of times, and when we asked others, they all said they had no idea. So youâre the only one I can
turn to now,â Matthew said helplessly.
Christian massaged his forehead irritably and replied curtly, âShe left.â
Janice released her grip on her master and forgot about her own fears as her eyes widened while she
almost buried him with questions, âShe left? Isnât she the birthday girl? Why did she leave? Whereâs
she now?â
Christian lifted his eyes and cast her a look, and her straight back immediately curled up
asnovelxo.com fast update she quickly shrank behind Matthew.
âI donât know.â Christian frowned as he took a seat on the side, picked up a snack, and popped it into
his mouth, chewing slowly.
In a second, Janice wilted and stole a look at Christian. Suddenly, she held her belly and cried out in
pain a few times. âMr. Buckley, itâs that time of the month for me. Iâm taking my leave first!â
Matthew was rendered speechless by his discipleâs actions and couldnât bring himself to look her in the
eyes.
âOh, the gift, Mr. Buckley! Pass the present to Victoria!â After Janice trotted off halfway, he hastily
returned and stuffed the present into his hand. Then, she cried out in pain while holding her belly and
ran off amidst the guests holding back their giggles.
âThatâs just how she is. Sorry about that.â Matthew pushed his gold-rimmed glasses in a nervous tick
and turned to Christian. âAre you in a bad mood?â
Christian picked up a napkin and wiped the corner of his lips. âYouâll also be in this mood if annoying
people are always pestering you.â
âThat depends on who that person is. It makes me quite happy that my student is bugging me.â He
flashed Christian a bright smile as he played with the present in his hands. âBack then, when Victoria
was hanging around you, it made you rather happy as well, right?â
Christianâs lips twitched at that, and a cold look flashed in his eyes. âIâve never said I was happy
because sheâs pestering me.â
Matthew clicked his tongue at him and decided not to comment about it. So, he brought back the topic
from earlier, saying, âIt is quite frustrating to step on some sh*t that you canât shake off.â Hence, he
leaned closer as he raised his brows and inquired, âChristian, did they urge you to get married again?â
