k Two Chapter Seven
Future Alpha Aspen
I place my baby sister in her high chair before grabbing the plate of cut-up fruit. Evie banged her palms against the tray as soon as she saw the food.
âShush, Evic, I want to hear what mom and dad are talking about?â I placed a few slices of banana and blueberries on her tray before pulling out a chair for me to sit down in front of her high chair.
My stomach twisted as I strained to listen to my parentâs conversation. I knew my father wasnât going to be happy about me leaving alpha training. But in all honesty, everything they are teaching, I already know. I spent the few years before my dad met Ryley and read every book in our library that pertained to anything alpha wolves. I was hoping it would make my father see me. I didnât realize how depressed he was until we met Ryley. She made him into a better alpha and an even better father.
Evie giggled and laughed as she threw blueberries at me before. squeezing a slice of banana before her fingers and stuffing her entire fist into her mouth.
âThereâs an easier way to eat that princess,â I pushed my lips into a line.
âI will have men with Channing around the clock while he is away for school. I wonât let anything happen to him,â I heard my father. What about me? Iâm not going back. If the council is coming after Mom and Evie, Iâm staying to protect them. And nothing will change my mind.
My phone chimed in my pocket. I placed a few pieces of strawberries

in front of Evie before pulling it out to see a text from Tessa. I smiled even though I shouldnât get my hopes up.
T: Merry Christmas, Handsome. Wish I could spend the day with you.

I grinned as I read the message over and over.
Me: Merry Christmas, Beautiful. Iâll be back tomorrow. xx x
I slipped my phone back into my pocket when my parents walked into the kitchen. I turned back to Evie to hide the smile I couldnât rid myself of. Iâve been trying to break through to Tessa since I met her. Sheâs only seventeen, and Shadow, my wolf hasnât said anything but I feel so connected to her. Sheâs unlike any other girl I have met.
âAspen,â I flinched at my fatherâs harsh voice.. I turned in my chair to see my fatherâs imposing stare. It was then Evie threw a piece of lifeless strawberry covered in baby drool. It hit me in the cheek and my father smiled as Evie giggled smacking her palms excitedly against the tray causing the few blueberries left to go flying.
âBabe, stop. Aspen is right to be concerned. The council has already proven they have people everywhere,â my mother defended me. I peeled the strawberry carc a ss off my face while watching my parents stare at one another. I knew my mother was going to win, she always does.
âApsen, you arenât going back to Alpha training. But you will continue it after this cr ap with the council is over. You are taking over three packs now, and you need to be ready,â my father finally said. I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
âWhere do you think we are going?â She questioned him, and I
swallowed my snicker. Sheâs not wrong. I wasnât going to be taking
over for a few more years.

âSweetie, can you go wake Channing? Breakfast is almost ready,â Mom let out a yelp as a loud cra ck of skin-hitting skin echoed through the kitchen.
âBlake, what the hell?â she yelled, rubbing a hand over her backside. That was my queue to leave. I didnât want to witness anything they were about to do.
âYouâre on your own, princess,â I stood up to leave.
âFor your attitude, missy,â I heard my father say as I quickly walked
out.
âIs everything alright?â Walter asked me when I walked into the living
room.
âIâm not going back to Alpha training, but you may want to rescue Evie.â I told him, heading towards the back bedrooms.
My phone chimed in my pocket again and I pulled it out leaning against the wall outside Channingâs room.
T: I work late, but maybe you can come see me?
My heart pounded against my chest as I reread the text message. This could be my big break into her life. Since I met her she has kept me at armâs length and it was driving me crazy. I wanted to know everything about her. Spend every free moment with her.
Me: Let me know the time and place. Iâll be there.
I quickly typed out the message. I jumped when Channingâs door opened and he stepped out.
âWhy are you just standing there?â He yawned.
âI was about to come wake your as s up. Breakfast is ready,â I rushed

out, quickly pocketing my phone. He gave me a pointed look before he shrugged. I havenât told him about Tessa. Heâs my brother and I love him but girls love him. Itâs nothing to be an alpha. They love the hockey all-star.
âWhy are you up so early?â he questioned as we walked to the kitchen together.
âI needed to talk with Mom,â I replied.
âAspen, I want to take you skating after we open gifts,â Mom said as we walked into the living room. She was wrapped around my father.
âShould you be skating?â he grumbled and she smacked his chest.
âIâm pregnant, not broken.â she rolled her eyes. As much as I hated their public display of affliction, I was happy my father had Ryley. Iâm thankful we both have her.
âBesides, I need some time with him,â she smiled.
âWhat, no love for me?â Channing exclaimed.
âI told you I was her favorite,â I laughed when I dodged his fist.
âBooboo,â Evie squealed. She was sitting with Walter on the couch.
âCome on, itâs time for breakfast.â
