Chapter Seventy-Five
Ryley
Blake and I walked off the elevator at precisely ten a.m. Isaac was standing by the front desk, his foot tapping away. When he saw me,
he frowned until he looked to my left to see Blake. I told Blake that even though heâs technically not my boss, it could be frowned upon if we walk into the office hand in hand. I didnât know how to define our relationship and I also wasnât ready to explain it to others.
âMr. Orion, I didnât expect to see you!â Isaac greeted him, with a handshake.
âI had some business in the city and we flew out together.â He said.
âMiss Halliwell, wait in my office for our meeting,â he told me. And I nodded.
âBlake, you can wait in my office, if youâd like, I shouldnât be too long,â I told him.
âIâll show him, go wait in my office,â Issac ordered. Blakeâs chest rumbled, as he glared at my boss.
âOf course,â I nodded before walking off to Isaacâs office. I thought he was acting weird but maybe he was under stress from another account. The Orion account was one of the firmâs most significant, but I think Iâ m doing a good job handling it. Iâm even ahead of schedule.
I walked into his office and took a seat in front of his desk. I was trying to figure out my finances when Isaac walked into his office, I had this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Something happened, bad

enough to where he wanted to speak to me in person. He took a seat and let out a sigh.
âRyley, I want you to know, this is not something I enjoy. You are a wonderful asset to this firm. My father gave you a chance and it paid off.â He said.
âThen why did you call me into your office instead of just returning my phone calls?â I asked him..
âAs you know, there was an opening for a partner,â he started.
âAnd by the look on your face, I didnât get it,â I finished. He shook his head and sighed.
âThe position went to Dennis,â he said.
âDennis?â I exclaimed, taken aback by what he just said.
âIt was a board decision, Ryley.â He explained.
âMy clients bring in more money for this firm than any other accountant and you passed me over to make Dennis partner?â
âRyley, this wasnât personal,â he said and I scoffed.
âIt sure feels personal, Isaac. Iâve done everything you have asked and more but you passed me over for someone who makes this firm less.â
âThe board voted,â he shrugged.
âAnd who did you vote for?â I questioned.
âThe board argued that you were too young and less likely to take on more responsibilities with being a single mom and I agreed with them. Itâs not because you arenât a hard worker, itâs about who will put the

company first.â He defended.
âThen you made a good choice, Mr. Miller. And this will be my resignation. I donât need to work for a company that doesnât value me or my dedication to my family.â I told him, standing up from the chair.
âRyley, donât. Please.â He begged.
âGo complain to your board. Iâm going to clean out my office. And Iâll be gone in twenty. Itâs been a pleasure.â I left his office with my head held high. If he wanted me to put this firm before Channing,,he was delusional. My family will always come first, and thatâs not a weakness.
I walked into my office with Isaac on my heels. I ignored him as I grabbed a box to pack up my belongings.
âRyley, what are you doing?â Blake asked, he was sitting in a chair in front of my desk.
âPlease, Ryley, can you at least stay to finish off the Orion account?â
âIsaac leave, now,â Blake growled. I turned around, collecting my things as they battled it out. I knew my worth and I wasnât going to change my mind.
I heard my office door slam before Blakeâs arms wrapped around my waist from behind. He rested his head on my shoulder as he pulled me against his chest.
âI quit, Blake. They past me over for the promotion because I wouldnât put this firm above my son.â I sighed, resting my arms on top of his.
âThen I guess the Orion pack will cancel its contract. And hire you directly.â He said. I turned in his arms so I could look at him.

âAnd the pack would lose money in ending the contract early,â I told him and he shrugged.
âMoney well spent.â
âBut then you would be my boss, so I would have to stop sleeping with you,â I purred, pecking his lips. He gripped the back of my neck before I could pull away from him.
âThatâs a requirement.â He growled.
âDo you offer that to all your employees, Alpha Orion,â I giggled, running my hands up his chest.
âOnly to you, baby,â he purred before he crushed his lips to mine. If we werenât in my former office, I would rip off his clothes. F*ck, this man had me acting like a h**ny teenager and I couldnât get enough of him.
Blake picked me up and sat me down on top of my desk, pushing himself between my legs.
âBlake,â I breathed out, as he kissed my jaw to my neck.
âI told him Iâd be gone in twenty.â He grumbled before pulling back.
âFine, you pack and Iâll be back, I have a contract to terminate.â He pecked my lips and helped me off my desk before he left to speak with Isaac. I smirked to myself as I filled the box with my things. The board wasnât going to be happy and my pity self was relishing in the thought of Isaac having to inform them of how he lost the Orion case.
