Chapter 1033:
She clung to Brookâs arm, a gesture meant to amplify her concern.
âBut the story seems to differ from what Ms. Clarke is saying,â Nova continued, her tone laden with insinuation. âBy pure coincidence, I ran into Dr. Swain from the nursing home today. I had planned to ask him to check on Kinslee, but it turns out, he told me something else. He mentioned that Ms. Clarke had done something inappropriate at the nursing home.â
Novaâs expression shifted into one of feigned concern.
âKellan, I know you care about Ms. Clarke, but you shouldnât cover for her,â she said, turning her gaze to Allison with a hint of triumph. âThe nursing home incident is in the past, Ms. Clarke. Thereâs no need to keep hiding the truth. Just apologize, and weâll consider it an accident.â Though Novaâs smile was sweet, her words were sharp, aimed to manipulate and provoke.
She subtly implied that Kellanâs defense of Allison was nothing more than the actions of someone smitten by her, thus undermining whatever he had to say.
Most importantly, she had already tampered with the surveillance footage to suit her narrative.
âBring Barton in,â Brook commanded, his voice icy and commanding. He would not stand for anyone trying to take advantage of the Lloyd family.
âYes, sir,â the servant replied, bowing before quickly exiting. Moments later, Barton Swain entered the room, his nervous energy barely concealed.

âGood day, Mr. Brook Lloyd. Iâm one of the physicians at the nursing home,â he introduced himself, his ID card hanging prominently around his neck.
Upon entering, Barton discreetly surveyed the room.
âMay I ask why Iâve been called here?â Bartonâs anxiety was palpable. After all, Nova had promised him wealth and security if he played his part today.
âDr. Swain, you should recognize this lady. Sheâs Ms. Clarke,â Nova said sweetly, her voice almost syrupy. âWe need you to clarify what happened when she broke into the nursing home.â
Kellan shot her a withering glance.
âI wasnât aware your reach extended so far,â he said, his voice cold.
He remembered Barton, but never expected him to betray them.
Nova played with her nails, her expression one of feigned innocence. âKellan, please donât misunderstand. I just ran into him and we had a casual chat. Besides, the nursing home is under your supervision, so even if I wanted to go in, you wouldnât allow it.â
Her voice dripped with false hurt as she looked to Brook for sympathy. âBrook, darling, Iâve never asked for anything; I only care about Kinslee, just as much as you do,â she said, making sure the words were soaked in emotional manipulation.
Only Brook seemed to buy it.
Kellan, however, wasnât fooled. âEnough with the theatrics,â he said, his tone laced with contempt. âItâs repulsive.â
Allison turned to Barton with a piercing look.
