Chapter 1063:
âIâve been stuck in this house far too long, and itâs like a prison. What do you say we go together?â
She said this to give them both an easy way out.
It was a clear olive branch, an attempt to smooth things over.
Melany, despite her past deception, had come to realize her wrongs. She believed that it was time for Colton to forgive her.
But Colton remained as cold as stone.
âI donât have time for that.â
His eyes briefly skimmed over the invitation. The CEO of Aröme Tower visiting Ontdale was indeed a rare opportunity, one that many would jump at.
But the thought of it stirred only disgust for Melany.
âAnd youâre pregnant now. Traveling and all that⦠itâs not exactly the best idea.â
âColtonâ¦â
âDonât test my patience, Melany.â
His blunt dismissal caused a crack in Melanyâs composed expression, but she quickly concealed it, like an actress hiding behind a mask. She took a slow, steady breath, clenching her fists beneath the table.

âI know you donât feel the same anymore, but you wouldnât take it out on the baby, would you?â
Her hand instinctively went to her belly, as though it were some sort of bargaining chip.
Once the child was born, even if the truth came to light that the child wasnât his, Hoyt would shoulder the blame.
Regaining her composure, Melany spoke, her voice softening.
âIâve been cooped up at home for days, and no one seems to care. My mood could affect the babyâs health.â
Colton knew that she was probably miserable, confined to her home, but frankly, he didnât care.
Yet, hearing her mention the baby caused a slight crease in his brow.
âIâll take you, but donât stir up any trouble.â
The words that came out of Coltonâs mouth startled him. He never thought heâd say something like that to the woman he once cherished so deeply.
In his mind, Melany had always been innocent, gentle.
But the day those files and photos came to light, everything he thought he knew crumbled to dust.
Melany let out a soft sigh of relief.
âOf course.â
She could tell that though Colton had agreed to the banquet, his mind was far away, still tangled in thought.
âBy the way, you donât need to worry about the gift.â She seized the moment to offer her assistance.
