Chapter 1133:
But before he could finish, she cut him off. âColton, donât try to tug at my heartstrings,â she said, her voice steady but firm. âI donât want to lose the last bit of respect I have for you.â
Allison looked at him, her expression serious and unwavering.
âThereâs no point in bringing up the past,â Allison said coldly. âIf we start talking about everything that happened, weâd find more bitterness than anything else between us. What I canât stand most is trying to fix things after a breakup. For me, once a mirror is broken, no matter how carefully you glue it back, it will never be the same. And this broken mirror will only reflect a scarred version of yourself. Youâd better forget about the past. Your wife is Melany, and you should care about her.â
She thought back to their three years of marriage. Colton never stood up for her whenever she was falsely blamed. Even when he found out that she really hadnât done anything wrong, he refused to apologize.
There might have been hidden reasons or misunderstandings back then, but that didnât erase the pain Colton had caused her.
Colton was caught off guard. How could he have missed this all these years? It dawned on him that he had only been fooling himself.
Seeing his silence, Allison added with a mocking smile, âYouâve only been living in your own little world. If this had happened while we were married, I probably wouldnât have even gotten the chance to defend myself. You wouldâve accused me of stealing ideas and completely crushed my dignity in front of so many people.â
âI wouldnâtâ¦â Coltonâs first reaction was to argue back. But as the memories flooded back, he realized that she was right. That was exactly how he had acted.
He couldnât bring himself to say anything else. Regret weighed heavily on him now.
âIâll ask you one last question,â he said, his voice barely above a whisper. âIf I were willing to let you punish me, to let you get your revengeâ¦â
Colton paused, swallowing the sharp bitterness in his throat before continuing, âWould you at least look at me again?â

He had never humbled himself before. This was the first time he had to pay for his past mistakes.
Whether it was being hit, yelled at, or enduring whatever else she threw at him, Colton decided to take it all in silence.
He only wanted to see the Allison he once knewâthe one whose eyes were full of love, the one who smiled and stayed with him every day.
âAllison, all I want is for you not to be so indifferent toward me. I just canât stand it.â
Allison frowned, feeling uneasy, while Kellan laughed freely. It was as if he had just heard the funniest thing.
ââMr. Stevens, it seems you donât quite understand yourself,ââ she said.
Colton stared blankly and responded, âThatâs none of your concern.â
ââWhat I mean is, do you even deserve it?ââ
Colton stiffened.
He knew exactly what was happeningâhe was being put down. He also knew he wasnât really in a position to ask for forgiveness. But he was using his drunken state to chase an answer that wasnât going to come.
ââEven if I donât deserve it, itâs not for you to decide!ââ Colton snapped.
