Chapter 1177:

Hoyt hesitated, his harsh demeanor faltering as he registered her tear-streaked face and the weight of her words.

“Wait… What do you mean?”

Hoyt glanced at her belly with suspicion, his brow furrowed. At that moment, Melany turned away, dabbing her eyes with a handkerchief as if to amplify her sorrow.

“It’s exactly what you think, Hoyt. I know you don’t like children, and your parents would never approve of me raising this one. Besides, our relationship… well, it’s not something society would ever accept. So, I’ve made plans, for the sake of this child.”

She looked up at him, her eyes red and swollen.

“I had planned that once Allison and Kellan were out of the picture, you’d take over as CEO of the Lloyd Group. A few years down the line, when our child learns what an influential father they have, they’d be so proud. But I didn’t want to trouble you. I just wanted to raise the child on my own. But now, everything’s fallen apart. You don’t love me the way you once did. Instead, you’ve placed all the blame at my feet.”

Melany’s words caught in her throat as tears fell from her eyes. She tenderly stroked her belly, her voice shaking. “If I had known it would turn out like this, I would have aborted the child.”

Hoyt’s temper was already teetering on the edge, and her words landed like a blow.

But one thing became clear to him in that moment.

Melany was carrying his child.

He was going to be a father.

“Is it… true?”

Before he could ask more, a voice suddenly broke through the tension. “Melany, who are you talking to?”

Colton’s voice echoed from behind them. He had been drinking in the banquet hall when he overheard Melany’s voice on the intercom. Just as he had prepared to ask for clarification, he learned that Melany and Hoyt had been thrown out.

Melany, caught off guard, froze for a moment before quickly masking her surprise with an expression of hurt.

“Colton, I’m terrified,” she wailed, putting on an act as though the world had crumbled around her. “I was falsely accused and thrown out of the banquet hall. I’m so sorry, I never meant for any of this.”

Colton stood there, his gaze cold and calculating, taking in the scene before him, particularly Hoyt’s presence by her side. “When did you and Hoyt become so close?”

Hoyt’s patience had run thin, and hearing Colton’s question only added fuel to the fire. With a sneer, he shot back with biting sarcasm. “Maybe my relationship with her is better than yours.”

“What did you say?” Colton’s voice turned dangerously low, his eyes narrowing with a threat that hung in the air. “Say it again, if you dare.”

Melany’s heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat. “Hoyt, this is my husband. Please show some respect!”

“Besides, I’m pregnant. There’s no way I’d let you touch me!” Standing with her back to Colton, Melany feigned emotion, her choked sobs giving her the appearance of pure innocence.
