Chapter 1178:

In reality, she was shooting warning glances at Hoyt, silently urging him to leave.

“I’m not trying to do anything to you.” Hoyt’s mind was finally starting to clear. The moment Hoyt realized that Melany might be carrying his child, he had been thrown into shock. He needed confirmation.

For once, Hoyt didn’t yell at Melany like he just did. His eyes rested on her stomach briefly. Then a sneer crept across his face.

“You really shouldn’t push me away. You’re always saying how great Colton is, but from where I’m standing, he can’t even keep you safe. He doesn’t deserve you.” Hoyt let out a smug grin.

He put on a front, acting like he was a tough challenge. The priority now was keeping Colton in the dark; if he got suspicious, their affair would come to light. If the baby was his, Hoyt intended to let Colton unknowingly raise it.

So he started playing along with Melany.

“Melany, if you’ve got any sense, you might as well—”

But before he could finish, Hoyt felt a sudden wave of murderous intent closing in.

In an instant, Colton’s fist collided with Hoyt’s face. “Bang!”

Hoyt, taken by surprise, staggered back a few steps before collapsing to the ground. He felt something trickle from his nose. He looked down, seeing that blood dripped onto the ground.

Dazed and disoriented, Hoyt quickly realized what had happened. His confusion turned to rage in an instant. “Colton, what gives you the right to hit me?!”

Clutching his aching nose, Hoyt lunged at Colton, igniting a fight.

“What did I even say wrong? You’re nothing but a loser! It’s bad enough you couldn’t handle Allison, that troublemaker, but now you can’t even protect your own wife. Go ahead, Colton, kill me if you’ve got the guts!”

Hoyt let loose all the pent-up rage he’d been holding against Colton. But to his horror, Hoyt quickly realized that he was no match for Colton.

“Say one more word, and I’ll break you.” Colton’s fist smashed into Hoyt’s face once more. He followed up by stomping on Hoyt’s fingers. “You don’t have the right to judge my wife!”

When Colton first learned about what went down at the banquet hall, he expected to feel furious. After all, no man could tolerate his wife’s betrayal. It was like when he divorced Allison; even though they were no longer together, seeing her with Kellan still filled him with rage. There was always an undercurrent of possessiveness in those moments.

But now, Colton recognized that his feelings for Melany weren’t as profound as he’d believed. There was no possessiveness — just a desire to protect his reputation.

“Let me go!” Hoyt couldn’t understand why Colton had snapped, but all he could do now was grit his teeth and endure the agony. His fingers felt on the verge of being crushed.

Colton stared down at him with icy contempt, saying, “Come near her again, and I swear next time you’ll lose those hands.” With that, he lifted his foot.

Hoyt was immediately freed. Though he wanted to curse, the thought of the child Melany carried forced him to bite his tongue.

“You two just wait and see!” Hoyt yelled and shot Melany a pointed glance. All he had to do was bide his time. Once Melany had his child, he would show no mercy — he would make sure she vanished from this world.
