Chapter 1183:
âYou saw what happened today. Hoyt wonât let this slide, and his mother is no pushover either,â Allison said, her voice laced with concern. Her fingers moved idly against his chest. But before she could continue, Kellan suddenly clasped her hand firmly.
âI canât take them all out, but my team can keep them too busy to cause us any trouble.â Kellan guided her hand to rest against his chest, over the spot closest toâ¦
His heart. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat echoed like a quiet drum beneath her fingertips.
Though his words were meant to reassure her, Allison let out a soft sigh and asked with unease, âDo you think Hoyt will get Brook to come after you? Iâm afraid heâll avenge Hoyt and punish you.â
She knew all too well that the inner workings of wealthy families were often complicated. Still, she hadnât anticipated the father-son relationship to be this intricate and fraught with tension.
Recalling Brookâs aloof, domineering nature, Allison could easily imagine his reaction. If he ever found out about what had happened in the banquet hall that night, there was no doubt he wouldnât let it slide.
âFor some reason, I want him to stir up trouble,â Kellan said, his voice edged with mischief.
He gently pinched her fingers before his hand slowly trailed down to her wrist.
As his fingers brushed against her skin, a shiver coursed through her.
The sensation was all too familiar, reminding her of those nights when Kellan would hold her wrists firmly in place, and his low, guttural whispers would ignite a storm inside her.
Each teasing stroke of his fingers felt like it was charged with intent. Allison just let him hold her wrist, then leaned languidly against his shoulder. âWhat are you planning to do?â She already had a hunch of his intentions.

There was no point pretending now that the facade had crumbled.
With Kellanâs methods, revenge was not just likely; it was inevitable.
Kellan let out a low, amused laugh, confirming her suspicions. âI had Sherman leak tonightâs events to the press. Every media outlet in Ontdale is running the story. By morning, everyone will know Hoytâs name. Let them deal with that scandal first. That way, they wonât have time to come after us.â
He paused, and his attention drifted back to her hand. Slowly, he clasped her fingers again. âAs for the Mafia, Iâve already stationed plenty of people at the Ghost Castle. That should keep them occupied for a while.â
Kellan could still recall the day Lorna was kidnapped. He and Allison had faced harrowing danger together, nearly losing their lives at the hands of the Mafia.
But it was during those moments of peril that his understanding of his own emotions began to shift.
Kellan had never imagined himself falling in love. Yet, when the moment came, his body betrayed him before his mind could catch up. Instinctively, he had pushed Allison out of harmâs way.
âWell, thank you for the hard work, Mr. Lloyd.â Allison reached out and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Without another word, she stood on tiptoes and planted a soft, lingering kiss on his lips.
