Chapter 1205:

Lindy’s problem was nothing more than a torturous headache, but her temper made it feel like a crisis. This time, however, Lindy wasn’t in the mood to be placated.

She turned her cold gaze to Melany and snapped, “Can’t you see how I’m doing? You’re pregnant, not blind.”

Scoffing, Lindy pressed her fingers to her throbbing temple, her frustration spilling over. “What were you even doing just now? Slacking off again? Back in the day, Allison would’ve been at my bedside, taking excellent care of me. Even if you’re not as sharp as her, the least you can do is be docile and obedient!”

Her words grew harsher, bitterness sharpening her tone with each passing second. Deep down, Lindy knew that Melany wasn’t one to take such jabs lying down.

Initially, Lindy had been drawn to Melany for her family’s wealth, but after Colton married her, reality struck. Melany’s parents turned out to be insufferable, always asking for money while flaunting their nouveau riche attitude.

“Lindy, what are you even talking about? I’m pregnant, so yeah, I move slower. It’s not intentional,” Melany said, her voice dripping with mock sweetness.

She plastered on a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, masking the anger she’d been swallowing for weeks.

She kept that fake smile on her face, continuing, “And while I might not be as capable as Allison, at least I can still fetch you medicine and water when you’ve got a headache.”

Although Melany was smiling, every word felt like a knife stabbing at Lindy’s heart.

Melany’s voice turned even sharper as she added, “You know, Allison wouldn’t even bother to bring you medicine before. That’s why you suffered so much.”

Hearing these words, Lindy froze for a moment, her face darkening before she exploded. “That ungrateful bitch!” Lindy’s chest heaved as fury bubbled up inside her.

Every reminder of Allison felt like salt in an open wound, especially since Allison had recently caused the Stevens family so much trouble. Thanks to her, Kellan had been mercilessly crushing them in every possible way.

But none of that changed the fact that Melany was utterly useless in Lindy’s eyes. “And you, you’re pregnant, not disabled. Moving a little faster won’t kill you!”

Her anger flared as she jabbed a finger toward the servants. “Go call Colton! Let him see for himself the wonderful wife he married!”

Hearing this, Melany stiffened, the fake smile on her face vanishing entirely.

During this period, Colton had been avoiding seeing Melany. She knew that her relationship with him would deteriorate further if Lindy escalated the situation.

“Lindy, Colton has been really busy these days, so I think you should—” But no matter what Melany said, it was useless. After all, the servants only listened to Lindy, and they soon called Colton over.

Colton arrived in a hurry, peeling off his suit jacket with impatience. “Mom, the servants mentioned something happened at home.” Lately, Colton felt completely overwhelmed. The company’s performance had been declining, and many accounts were incorrect. Ever since losing the cooperation with Flavio some time ago, he had been struggling to stay afloat.

So, when he learned that something had happened at home, Colton felt nothing but frustration. He couldn’t help but wish Allison were here. In the past, no matter what happened at home, she would manage everything and never let him worry.
