Chapter 1209:

What she didn’t say, though, was her true plan. She knew Vrining’s banking laws differed from those here. As long as she remained legally married to Colton, she could transfer his assets as his wife. Once the money was transferred, she would disappear, securing a future for herself and her child far away.

But at this moment, Lindy was gripped by another debilitating headache.

“Colton, didn’t you say there were skilled people on Hacker’s World? Find a way to cure my illness!”

Colton frowned. “Mom, I’m already trying my best to look for them.” In truth, Colton knew very little about Hacker’s World. It was a shadowy realm, and the people involved were dangerous. Lindy, however, was in no mood for logic. She clutched her head in frustration.

“If the people on Hacker’s World can’t help, then find its founder. He has to know how to get the medicine I need!”

It was no secret that players in the game would go to great lengths to complete tasks posted by the founder.

Colton couldn’t suppress the flicker of irony her words stirred within him. Find the founder? He wasn’t omniscient. How was he supposed to accomplish that?

Still, Lindy’s current state left no room for reason. Her pain rendered her irrational, and arguing would only make things worse.

“Once I’m back at the company, I’ll try to make contact,” he said, his voice calm.

Lindy let out a relieved sigh, her tense shoulders loosening slightly. “You said it! Don’t forget!”

Her excruciating headache eventually subsided after she took a Soothing Capsule, allowing her to rest. Colton and Melany then left the bedroom.

Outside the bedroom, they walked down the hallway. Melany glanced at him, her expression casual but calculated. “Colton, if you’re serious about getting information from Hacker’s World, maybe I could help. I could even invest 100k into it with you.”

She wasn’t offering out of goodwill. Melany had her own plans. The founder of Hacker’s World was a figure of immense power. If she could form a connection with him, Colton would become irrelevant in her plans.

Colton replied with an expression as blank as a clean slate. “I’ve never planned on tracking down the founder of Hacker’s World. I’ll figure out another way to get Mom the medicine.”

He was fully aware of the risks tied to Hacker’s World. Even though it could be restarted, everyone knew the founder was like a ghost—appearing and disappearing mysteriously without a trace. The time spent chasing the founder would be better used finding the medicine.

“I’m heading to the company to get that project you mentioned rolling.” He turned to Melany before leaving, his tone firm. “Stay home and stay out of trouble. I don’t want to hear about any more chaos.”

Actually, Melany hadn’t been worried about Lindy’s medicine at all. Her true goal was to track down the elusive mastermind behind Hacker’s World.

So, she nodded in agreement, putting on a show. “I understand. Don’t worry about me.”

She softened her voice, feigning vulnerability as she continued, “I’ll manage. Lindy just scolds me sometimes because of her headaches, but I’ll endure it… for our child’s sake.”
