Chapter 1233:
As the engine roared to life, Colton barely avoided being run over.
âKellan!â
If he hadnât moved just in time, he wouldâve been hit.
That madman had no regard for anyoneâs safety.
It reminded Colton of the time in Ontdale when he and Melany had nearly been run over by Allison.
No wonder she had become so tough after the divorce.
It was all Kellanâs fault! Having stayed with Kellan for too long, Allison had now nearly become a completely different person.
Not far off, Melany had already walked over.
âColton, we need to move quickly.â She forced a tight, strained smile. Even though Allison had already walked away, Colton stood frozen, lost in thought.
Melanyâs resentment grew as she watched him.
âWe really need to get a move on. If Allison and Kellan reach the golf course first, theyâll have more time to charm that distributor.â She took a long, deliberate breath.
Her words held an underlying weight. âPeople can be unpredictable. If they beat us there, who knows what they might say to the distributor? They could easily turn him against us. Therefore, we must act faster and meet the distributor before they do.â
Her voice softened, almost sweet, but the edge of warning was unmistakable. âIf the distributor gets a bad impression of us, itâll be nearly impossible to fix.â
As expected, her words seemed to hit their mark. Coltonâs expression darkened, his thoughts clearly shifting to the stakes at hand. âI know.â

Colton had been replaying everything in his mind, but Melanyâs words brought sharper focus to the situation. He had to admit that now was not the time to hesitate.
Though guilt gnawed at him for the way things had unfolded with Allison, the Stevens Group was on the verge of collapsing. If they didnât land this order, the fallout could be disastrous.
So, he steeled himself. Protecting the business came first. âWeâre going to the golf course.â
With those words, he slid into the car beside Melany.
His face was a mask of cold resolve. He couldnât shake the thought of why Allison had chosen Kellan. The man had once been in a wheelchair.
He clearly had some health issues.
In Coltonâs eyes, Kellan was much inferior to him, and he didnât understand why Allison would fall for such a man.
âColton, donât be so down.â
Melany thought his mood was the result of the pressure over the order.
But deep down, she couldnât help but feel a touch of irony.
Profit always outweighed love, didnât it?
