Chapter 1235:

Needless to say, Melany was not happy about Colton’s actions. She could practically hear the thoughts raging through his head, which only made her feel doubly humiliated.

“You must be joking, Mr. Lloyd! I don’t mind such trifles at all.” Despite the resentment that pierced her soul, Melany tried to appear magnanimous. “I mean, even if you have seven hundred thousand at your disposal, you will still need some time to complete the paperwork, correct?”

Melany then wound her arm around Colton’s and turned to Allison with a smug smile. “So, Ms. Clarke,” she said in a condescending tone, “why don’t you come with us? It would do no one any good to delay these things.”

She was expecting Allison to get riled up at her little display of affection, but Melany was quite surprised when this was met with a smile instead.

“Every time I meet you and Colton, I want to say that you two really make a good match,” Allison remarked, looking back and forth between Melany and Colton.

Did they think that she would be desperate for this opportunity? She found this couple more and more laughable.

“But I’m afraid I can’t accept your kindness,” Allison pressed on, crossing her arms over her chest. “I have no interest in being a third wheel.

It’s just a membership card, anyway. I don’t need to borrow from others. I can find my own.”

Allison had always been a bit forgetful.

She had accumulated a number of things as a special agent, but they were all stored in a vault. It would take her some time to rifle through them and find what she needed.

That was why she had decided to get a new membership card. How could she have known that Colton and Melany would use this against her?

“Oh, do you actually have one, Ms. Clarke? How come you only remembered it just now?” Melany let out a mocking laugh.

She was convinced that Allison was only bluffing to save face. Once she and Colton left, Kellan would probably pay for the new membership. He was the wealthy one, after all.

Melany felt she had every reason to look down on Allison.

“Please, there is no shame in asking for help. Colton and I are more than happy to lend you a hand. It’s just that Colton’s relationship with Mr. Lloyd is a little strained. My offer still stands, though. You are free to come with us, Ms. Clarke.”

The disdain in Melany’s tone belied the generosity of her words. This time, however, Allison simply ignored her.

Without a word, Allison took out her phone and spent a few seconds looking for an ID. Then she turned to the receptionist.

“76452 is my previous membership card number. Please verify it.”

Melany’s smug expression instantly vanished. She began to wonder if Allison really had a membership card before.

But this was the Royal Golf Course of Vrining. If Allison had that much money, why would she have married into the Stevens family in the first place? Perhaps Allison had somehow managed to hook up with a rich tycoon at some point. That had to be it, right?

While Melany’s mind raced with these assumptions, the receptionist entered the card number Allison had provided into the club’s system. A moment later, he shook his head.
