Chapter 1276:
Her heart hammered against her ribs, a chill creeping up her spine. She forced her gaze upward, and there he was, standing right in front of her.
A low, chilling laugh escaped him, laced with something dark, something unhinged.
âAllison, long time no see.â His icy voice was so familiar.
Her sluggish thoughts pieced themselves together, and when the realization struck, her breath hitched. âVerruckt?â
It had to be him. Even through the blur, even as her body screamed for her to escape, she knew â she had to get away.
Verrucktâs blood-red eyes locked onto hers. âLooks like you havenât forgotten me completely.â
He leaned down, his piercing gaze drinking her in like a predator savoring its prey. âDonât worry, you wonât just die here. Iâll torture you and make you wish for death.â
Her trembling fingers moved toward the trigger. âYouââ
Before she could fire, his hand snapped around her wrist.
His touch burned like an open flame, searing through her skin with a heat that threatened to consume her whole.
As a result of her blood loss, Allison could barely understand what Verruckt was saying. But one thing was crystal clear â falling into Verrucktâs hands was worse than death.
Yet, she knew that she was helpless now. Dizziness overtook her. The strength drained from her limbs, and she collapsed.
Instead of the cold, unforgiving floor, she fell into an embrace that burned like fire, scorching her.
In the final moments before darkness swallowed her whole, she thought she saw it â his brow creased, his expression unreadable, but his murderous intent clear as day. âI shouldnât have let those fools die so quickly.â

He straightened, adjusting her weight in his arms as he strode out of Aröme Tower.
Had he arrived a moment later, she would have been gone. And then⦠who would he have left to destroy?
His eyes flicked down to the crimson staining her abdomen. A sharp, violent rage burned beneath his cold exterior.
Irritation flickered in his eyes, making his presence feel even more frigid and unforgiving. âEvacuate Aröme Tower. Now.â
âYes, sir.â His men obeyed without hesitation. But as they exchanged uncertain glances, one unspoken question lingered among them all. Verruckt had come for revenge. So why the hell was he carrying a woman out? Who was she?
Allison drifted in and out of consciousness.
When she finally woke up again, she found herself in an unfamiliar place.
From the looks of the ceiling, she had the impression that she had been placed in some sort of golden cage. When she gingerly pulled herself into a sitting position, her movements were accompanied by the sound of clattering chains. The sound was unusually loud and sharp in the otherwise silent surroundings.
âChains?â she mumbled, her brows knitting into a frown.
