Chapter 1278:
His pupils were dilated with unmistakable madness. âDo you know how many ways Iâve come up with to torture you?â
Verruckt slowly tightened his grip. From this angle, Allisonâs neck was exposed â so fragile, so vulnerable. He could break it with minimal effort.
The desire to find this woman and take revenge on her by any means had been his sole motivation to stay alive ever since their last meeting. But truth be told, Verruckt himself was surprised by his restraint.
why hadnât he acted on his desire immediately?. Instead, he had confined her in this luxurious cage.
And then it dawned on him â he wanted to clip Allisonâs wings and keep her in a cage. He wanted to possess her.
At this point, Verruckt wasnât even sure if he hated Allison or if he harbored some other feelings for her. All he knew for certain was that he would never let her leave his clutches again. Even if she died, he wanted to possess her ashes.
A part of him had expected her to be frightened by her circumstances. Another part of him thought she might pretend to be sweet and obedient, as she had done before. But the Allison in front of him was just⦠cold, distant. She acted like she didnât care whether she lived or died.
âI think I have a fair estimation of your hatred toward me,â Allison said, her voice steady. She had always known that Verruckt had a wild streak. âSo, if you want revenge, just be done with it. Save us all the trouble.â
Verruckt scoffed and rolled his eyes. âOh, your death wonât be easy.â He caressed her cheek, the gesture laden with intent, made all the more dangerous by its ambiguity.
âI want you to witness the grand spectacle Iâve planned.â
Allison sneered. âIâm not in the mood for this.â

âBut you donât have options.â
Verrucktâs gaze raked over her with unsettling interest.
âYouâve been out cold for a while, so you probably donât know that your mother, Lilyana, along with Kellan, has exposed the dirty little secret of human experiments in Vrining. I have to say, I didnât expect you to be so bold.â
Allisonâs brow furrowed. âHow long have I been unconscious?â
âThree days.â
She didnât respond immediately, exhaling in relief.
At least now she knew that Lilyana and Kellan were still alive.
Verruckt studied her reaction, seeing right through her.
âDo you actually think thatâs a good thing?â His voice dripped with sarcasm. âBecause of this, youâve made a whole lot of enemies. There are countless people out there who want you dead.â
Allison had expected as much. After all, those experiments werenât just any operation â they were the backbone of the elites in Vrining. With their precious projects now exposed and destroyed, it made perfect sense that theyâd be after her, the one who set it all in motion.
âNot exactly new. Plenty of people have wanted me dead before.â She took her time looking him up and down. âAnd youâre one of them.â
