Chapter 1282:
âWhat do you want?â Allison shot him a wary glance. Her gut twisted with unease.
âMs. Clarke, Iâm going to let you meet him.â She knew exactly who he meant.
With a flick of his wrist, Verruckt signaled his men. âTake her away.â
âYes, sir.â
They followed orders without hesitation, binding Allisonâs limbs and shoving her into a car. A blindfold was pulled over her eyes. The vehicle rumbled to life, swaying and jolting along an unforgiving road. Allison could feel the rough terrain beneath them â mountain roads, most likely. But where were they headed? She had no way of knowing.
When the car finally rolled to a stop, blinding sunlight pierced her vision.
âEveryone, get out,â Verruckt said coldly.
The men obeyed, stepping out after him.
As Allison steadied herself, she realized where they were â a cliff. Her wrists were still bound as she was shoved forward, her toes hovering dangerously over the edge. One wrong move, and she would plummet. A deep frown settled on her face, but before she could process her next move, a familiar figure emerged in the distance.
It had been days since she last saw him, but there was no mistaking him. Kellan stood there, his face etched with exhaustion, dark circles shadowing his eyes.
âAllison!â Kellan advanced toward her.
His voice was hoarse, raw with emotion, as he stepped closer. He looked like he hadnât slept in days.
âKellan, Iâm fine. Donât worry about me.â

A lump formed in Allisonâs throat, her eyes burning with unshed tears. But then, as Verrucktâs words from yesterday echoed in her mind, panic surged through her veins. âDonât come any closer! It could be a trap!â
Verruckt let out a cruel laugh.
Seeing them care for each other so deeply only made his chest ache like a knife twisting in an old wound. His gaze turned to Kellan, dark and unreadable.
âWell, well. You really came alone.â
Kellanâs fists were clenched at his sides. âI came just like you asked. If itâs revenge you want, then take me instead of her.â
The moment their eyes locked, the air between them crackled with tension.
âVerruckt, you fool, let me tell the truth â I was the one who planned the explosion. Allison had nothing to do with it. Youâve been chasing the wrong person this whole time.â
Kellan had come with a single purpose â to offer himself in a one-for-one exchange. He was willing to trade his life for Allisonâs safety.
But Verruckt only smirked.
âI donât care who orchestrated it. It doesnât change the fact that I want my revenge. But⦠youâve just given me a rather interesting idea.â He twirled a dagger between his fingers, his amusement growing. âOnly one of you gets to leave alive. Since you want Allison to live so badly, then go ahead and die in her place.â
