Chapter 394:

Her face remained partially obscured by a white mask, but her striking jawline and rose-tinted lips were enough to captivate everyone. Even with so little revealed, she radiated an aura of power and mystery.
Colton, watching her closely, felt a strange sense of recognition.
Although that face bore no resemblance to Allison, she carried the same intense, elusive energy.
Noticing the way Colton seemed momentarily entranced, Melany frowned slightly, her jealousy flaring.
âColton, it looks like sheâs not planning on showing her full face anytime soon. If youâre thinking of using her to get close to Mose, that might be trickier than expected,â she said, snapping him back to reality.
Melany couldnât pinpoint when it started, but Colton often seemed drawn to other women. Men were impossible to predict sometimes.
But she had more reasons than just jealousy to keep Colton away from Sweety. The prize the mysterious driver had just won might be rigged with explosives, and she had no desire to be caught up in whatever chaos that could bring.
Colton scowled, considering her words. âYouâre probably right. Weâll need to come up with a different approach. And weâre supposed to meet Mose soonâ¦â
Before he could finish, his phone rang, cutting him off. The voice on the other end was cold and professional.
âMr. Stevens, I regret to inform you that Mr. Craig has decided not to proceed with the partnership. Heâs already left.â
âWhat? Could you put me in touch with Mr. Craig? This must be some kind of misunderstanding.â
âIâm afraid Mr. Craigâs decision is final. Thereâs nothing more I can do.â
The call abruptly ended, leaving Colton in stunned silence.
His face darkened.
Melany blinked in surprise. âWhat happened?â
âCraig inexplicably backed out. The business meetingâs been canceled.â
He had a bad feeling about how this day was unfolding. Sometimes, a personâs gut instinct was right on the money.
Just as Colton processed the disappointing news, Gordon, the young man they had seen at the auction, approached with a cheerful grin on his face.
âMr. Stevens, fancy seeing you here,â Gordon greeted warmly.
Coltonâs temples throbbed with increasing intensity.
He discreetly took two steps back.
âMr. Herbert, long time no see.â
âWell, itâs only been a few days,â Gordon corrected him, his youthful charm masking a more dangerous nature, evident from his sharp canines. âI was hoping we could discuss a potential partnership, Mr. Stevens.â
Colton felt uneasy about the suggestion. Gordon was unpredictable, and Colton had learned to be cautious around people like him.
âI appreciate the offer, but I have other matters to attend to right now. Perhaps another time,â Colton replied, hoping to bow out politely.
But Melany wasnât ready to let the opportunity slip away.
